Chapter 148 Missing You

Zheng Yao felt extremely nauseous, but she could only force herself to endure it.

After a long pause, he finally said, "I'm happy if Song Mai isn't doing well. As long as I'm happy, you can discuss anything you want me to do."

That evening, Fan Ruifeng called his secretary and asked him to thoroughly investigate Song Mai's personal information and which company she currently works for.

Zheng Yao was tormented until late at night before Fan Ruifeng finally let her go.

Fan Ruifeng is middle-aged and rarely exercises, so his physical strength and energy are naturally not as good as those of young people. Zheng Yao originally thought that she would only need to take care of him a little.

Unexpectedly, after being with him, she discovered that he had some peculiar and shameful fetishes. In just a few days, Zheng Yao's body was covered in bruises and scars.

Fortunately, it's late autumn now, and with many layers of clothing, the wound is covered and no one can see it.

But whenever she took off her clothes and looked in the mirror at the scars on her body, she couldn't help but think of Fan Ruifeng's disgusting and hideous face.

She even felt dirty herself.

After Song Mai returned home, she washed, dried, and ironed the clothes she had bought for him before putting them in his wardrobe. She opened her phone, intending to send him a message, but found that Chu Xing hadn't sent her a single message.

Song Mai couldn't help but feel a little disappointed, so she simply threw her phone aside, pulled the blanket over her head, and prepared to just fall asleep.

The late autumn night was very cold. Song Mai lay in bed for a long time but still felt that the bed was cold and had no warmth.

She tucked the blanket in tightly, turned over, and saw that the bed beside her was empty. She felt empty and lost.

She had never felt the bed was so big before he shared a bed with her.

After an unknown amount of time, Song Mai finally drifted off to sleep.

Half-asleep, she seemed to hear her phone vibrating. After struggling for a long time, she finally got out of bed to get her phone from the bedside table.

Song Mai casually pressed the answer button, only to find that the caller was Chu Xing, and it was a video call.

Under the dim light of the desk lamp, the woman looked sleepy, her hair a little messy, clearly having been woken up by a phone call.

Song Mai rubbed her eyes to make sure she could see her phone screen clearly.

Chu Xing sat in a chair, the background of which looked like a hotel.

He looked exhausted and pale, appearing much more haggard than he had been the previous weekend.

"Sorry to disturb your rest."

Song Mai shook her head. She had been blaming him for not contacting her, but seeing him like this, all the blame vanished instantly, replaced by heartache.

She was being too reckless. He was in the early stages of starting his business, and his company's operations had only just stabilized. He must be very busy, and judging from his appearance, he hadn't slept for days.

She blamed him for not contacting her, but she didn't care about him either, did she?

"Why aren't you asleep yet? It's already very late."

Song Mai looked at him quietly, and seeing that he was still wearing early autumn clothes, she became even more worried.

She didn't know where he was, or whether it was cold where he was. Thinking about it, she realized she knew absolutely nothing about him.

Chu Xing leaned back in his chair, and the camera flashed to a stack of documents on the table next to him, with his laptop screen still lit up.

"I just finished working and it's getting late. I didn't want to disturb your sleep, but I missed you and couldn't help calling you."

Song Mai's little face was flushed, and she was huddled under the blanket with only her head showing. She looked small and very cute.

Upon hearing his words, the woman was clearly taken aback, as if she hadn't quite grasped the situation. Immediately, two blushes rose to her cheeks, and she looked quite embarrassed.

So he was thinking of her too. Hearing his words, Song Mai's heart was filled with sweetness, as if she had eaten a sweet and soft piece of food.

She originally thought that only she was thinking about him, and that he didn't have time to think about her at all.

Are you very busy lately?

The man pinched the bridge of his nose, his eyes bloodshot.

"Yeah, I'm really busy. I'm so busy that I don't even have time to call or text you, unlike someone who has free time but doesn't know how to call or text me."

In fact, he not only had no time to make phone calls or send messages, but he also almost skipped sleep. The few meals he ate were all with his business partners. He spent most of his time working, and only slept for a while on the road when he couldn't hold on any longer. He only got two or three hours of sleep each night.

Even so, he would still think of her in the gaps of time. He would think of her when he was in the car, before he went to sleep, when he was eating, and even when he was working. He would wonder what she was doing, whether she was eating, sleeping, or working, and whether she was having any troubles at work.

Has she adapted to Yunxing? And has anyone in Yunxing caused her any trouble?

He had so much to say to her, but this woman was heartless. He didn't have time to contact her, and she managed to refrain from sending him a single message.

Upon hearing this, Song Mai looked away shyly, not because she didn't want to contact him, but because she was holding back her temper.

But now that he brought it up, she couldn't admit that she was actually upset because she felt neglected by him.

"I...I'm busy too."

Upon hearing this, Chu Xing frowned.

"Is Yunxing so busy? Didn't you just start working here? Is someone bullying you and dumping a lot of work on you?"

He clearly instructed Assistant Lu to keep an eye on her and not let the translation department bully her or give her too much work. Now she's so busy that she doesn't even have time to contact him. What exactly is Assistant Lu doing?

Did you just ignore what he said?

Seeing that he was angry, Song Mai quickly explained:

No, no, it's not what you think.

"What kind is it?"

Seeing Song Mai's hesitant manner, Chu Xing looked puzzled.

Song Mai felt guilty under his gaze, as if he could see right through her even though she hadn't said anything.

I had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, "I miss you too, but you seem to be very busy, always busy, too busy to pay attention to me. Your replies to my messages are extremely brief, as if you don't want to talk to me. I called you, but you said you were in a meeting and didn't answer, and you didn't call back later. I think I might have bothered you, so I didn't call you again."

Her voice was low, and perhaps because she had been woken up in the middle of the night, it sounded trembling to the man, conveying a sense of grievance and pitifulness.

Chu Xing remained silent for a few seconds.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I was just really busy, and when I got busy, I neglected these things. It was my fault, and I will pay attention in the future."

He called her tonight to say he missed her, and Song Mai saw firsthand how exhausted he was, so her resentment and grievances had long since disappeared.
