When Song Mai got home, she ran into Chu Xing, who had just returned.
The man was turning his back to her as he entered the door access code.
That figure, if not exactly identical to Yun Xing's Master Yun, was at least 90% similar.
"Where did you go?"
Seeing that she had just returned from outside, the man asked as he took off his coat.
"I had dinner with Lin Ran."
"How did the press conference go?"
Chu Xing asked casually, seemingly without thinking.
"Didn't you see the news?"
This matter has been reported by almost all major news outlets, especially by TechPing.
The launch of the 2nd lunar probe was a milestone in the country's technological development, so much so that even mainstream media spontaneously reported on it.
He was completely unaware of the commotion.
"I was busy today and didn't have time to check the news."
He was telling the truth; he had indeed been busy all day. After the press conference, he held two meetings in a row, and afterwards, he entertained several representatives from technology companies who had come to attend the press conference. It wasn't until now that he had finished.
Seeing that he didn't seem to be lying, Song Mai described the events of the day in detail. After she finished speaking, she turned her head and met the man's captivating eyes.
He took off his coat, leaving him only in a black shirt with two buttons undone at the collar. Compared to his usual meticulousness, he now looked lazy and casual.
Those eyes were like a lake, its surface shimmering with light, yet beneath which lay shadows, drawing one in to explore them.
This man seems a bit off today...
Song Mai stared straight at him, feeling that he was different from usual today.
It wasn't until she poured him a glass of water and handed it to him, and got close, that she smelled the alcohol on him.
"Have you been drinking?"
"Yes, I drank a little."
He rested his head on one hand and watched her quietly, taking the water glass but not drinking it.
It was obvious that Chu Xing didn't seem to have only drunk a little; on the contrary, he seemed drunk and somewhat out of it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have looked at her like that.
So soft, so tender.
"I'll go make you some hangover soup."
As she spoke, Song Mai turned to go to the kitchen, but Chu Xing grabbed her wrist and pulled her hard, causing her to fall backward.
His series of movements were so fast that Song Mai had no time to prepare. Thinking she was about to fall to the ground, she was so frightened that she quickly closed her eyes.
However, the expected pain did not come; the man gently wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.
Song Mai sat on his lap, her face turning red all the way to her ears.
"Let me up, you're drunk."
"I don't."
The man stubbornly held onto Song Mai tightly, resting his chin on her shoulder like a spoiled child.
Helpless, Song Mai reached out to push him, but she couldn't budge him at all. She had no choice but to coax him like a child.
"You're drunk. Let me up. I'll make you some hangover soup, okay? You'll have a headache tomorrow if you don't drink it."
Perhaps it was the effects of the alcohol, but Song Mai felt that he was much less sober than when he first arrived home. When she spoke to him earlier, he showed no signs of drunkenness, but now he was clearly very intoxicated.
The man wrapped his arms around her waist, his hot breath spraying onto her earlobe, making Song Mai feel her earlobes burning.
"Don't go, stay with me."
He was like a clingy child, yet his words were incredibly assertive.
Song Mai couldn't push him away, and she couldn't reason with him. She had no choice but to let him hold her.
After a while, Song Mai saw that he was not speaking or moving, so she gently called his name twice, but the man still did not respond.
She gave him a gentle push, and the man's body swayed slightly before he collapsed onto the sofa, his breathing becoming steady; he had fallen asleep.
Chu Xing looked exhausted, and the dark circles under his eyes were even more pronounced than they had been two days ago; he must have been completely worn out.
Song Mai removed his shoes and socks, took a blanket from the bedroom and covered him with it, then turned the heating in the living room to its maximum before going back to her bedroom to sleep.
He slept soundly without any dreams. The next morning, Song Mai drove to the hospital to relieve the translator who had cared for him the previous night.
Perhaps considering that it might be inconvenient at night, the company specially arranged for a young boy to take care of him at night.
When Song Mai handed over the task to him, Alex was still asleep. Song Mai smiled and nodded at him, and the boy returned the smile, which was a silent greeting.
Fortunately, she no longer needs to follow up on Tang Lanlan's project, and her new project hasn't progressed to the point where she needs to do anything. For the next few days, all she needs to do is take care of Alex and, incidentally, familiarize herself with the execution plan for the land purchase.
Several days have passed in the blink of an eye, and major media outlets are very concerned about Alex's recovery progress. In the past few days, many media outlets have come to visit and conduct interviews.
Alex is recovering well and was able to be discharged from the hospital after a few days.
Several company representatives who came with him had already gone home, leaving only his assistant who had come with him to wait for him at Southern Metropolis Daily.
Song Mai accompanied Ji Feng and Manager Xu to the airport to see Alex off. Alex was witty and humorous, with an excellent attitude, and didn't seem to care at all about his brush with death.
He acted as if nothing had happened and looked full of energy.
Before boarding the plane, he didn't forget to ask Song Mai to urge the company to ship the robot he had ordered on the 2nd of the month as soon as possible. Originally, he just wanted to take it back for research, but now it seems that he really needs such a robot.
After Song Mai conveyed Alex's message to Manager Xu, Manager Xu immediately said that Master Yun expressed his deep regret for what happened to Alex in Yunxing, and had arranged for a Dayue 2 to be sent to him. It had already been sent to his residence two days ago, and he should be able to see Dayue 2 soon after he arrives.
Upon hearing this, Alex was overjoyed and repeatedly asked Manager Xu to convey his gratitude to Master Yun.
After seeing Alex off, just as the three were about to return to the company, a voice suddenly came from behind them.
"Monsoon and?"
The man frowned and stopped in his tracks upon hearing the sound.
Song Mai and Manager Xu also turned around and were shocked to see a woman with a hot figure, wearing a scarlet coat, a black strapless top and mini skirt, and ten-centimeter stiletto heels.
The woman had chestnut-brown, wavy hair that was casually draped behind her head. Her upturned, almond-shaped eyes were full of charm, and her red lips were bright and alluring. She subtly observed the three of them with her eyes darting around.
"What's up?"
Ji Feng glanced at her, his clear eyes revealing no emotion.
Why did you stand me up last night?
The woman asked directly, without making any attempt to avoid the question despite Song Mai and the others being present.
Manager Xu remained silent, but his gaze towards Ji Fenghe held a hint of mockery.
Ji Fenghe didn't have much patience for her, and his tone was cold.
