Song Mai didn't know exactly what had happened, but Lu Xun's voice was urgent, which made people feel very uneasy.
Before she could respond, the call was disconnected.
Song Mai stood by the window and looked out. The flower beds along the roadside were two-thirds covered by rainwater, with only a small part barely visible.
This ancient city, which has existed for over a thousand years, has been transformed into a water city.
She clutched the hem of her clothes, a chill creeping over her in waves.
Although the shopkeeper found her some clothes, they weren't very thick. In such a winter downpour, coupled with this disaster, she felt chilled to the bone, cold from the inside out.
Will they be able to get back safely?
A while later, Lu Xun came running up from downstairs, carrying several bags on his back and soaking wet, panting heavily.
Song Mai quickly took the bag from him, saying with great concern.
"Team Leader Lu, what exactly happened?"
Just as Lu Xun was about to speak, the door to the room suddenly opened, and Ji Feng appeared. He was wearing a pair of bohemian-style floral pants, a leopard-print sweater, and gray furry slippers. His hair was messy, and he looked completely different from the dashing young master he had been before.
Lu Xun was so surprised that he couldn't close his mouth for a long time.
He pointed at the monsoon and remained silent for a long time.
It wasn't until Ji Fenghe tossed a dry towel onto his wet head that he seemed to snap out of his daze.
He then clutched his stomach and burst into laughter.
"Manager Ji, why are you dressed like this?"
Song Mai suppressed a laugh and lowered her head. When the old lady shop owner handed her the clothes, she took them without even looking at them. Her own outfit was normal, but she didn't expect Ji Fenghe's outfit to be so... unrestrained!
Ji Feng glanced at her, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Song Mai quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, Manager Ji, I didn't mean to. I just asked the shop owner to find me a couple of clean clothes. I didn't expect the uncle's clothes to be like this. If I had known earlier, I would have definitely picked something out."
Ji Feng sat casually on the sofa.
"Well, wearing this is better than wearing something wet."
Then he looked at Lu Xundao, who was wiping his face with a towel:
"Tell me, what brings you here?"
Lu Xun sighed helplessly, his face full of solemnity.
"Don't even mention it. The rain outside is so heavy that water has already flooded the truck bed. The towing company said there are too many flooded trucks and they have so many orders that they can't keep up. They've already sent out all the trucks they can. The company doesn't have any trucks left. The water on the road is too deep, and the few people driving are driving slowly. They still haven't been able to get to the hotel safely."
Having exhausted all other options, I quickly contacted the branch office, but they said there's only one road leading to the ancient city where we are. Because the ancient city is the lowest point in the area compared to the surrounding areas, the flooding is deeper than in other places. The only road leading to the ancient city has been blocked, and now they can only think of other solutions.
Upon hearing this, both Song Mai and Ji Feng's expressions visibly turned grave.
They expected the car that was supposed to pick them up wouldn't arrive quickly, but they never imagined it wouldn't come at all.
So what do they do now?
How long are we supposed to wait here?
If this is the lowest point in the country, and it's also on the coast, and if the rain keeps falling and cars can't get in to pick them up, how long can they hold out?
Now that there is no electricity, what will they do if there is no water and no food, and the water floods up to the second floor?
For a moment, the group fell silent. No one knew what the next step would be, or what would happen to the three of them if things really came to that.
That's why Lu Xun couldn't stay in the car any longer and rushed over to find them.
Fortunately, they had a hotel where they could take refuge temporarily.
The atmosphere became gloomy, and just when everyone was feeling somewhat hopeless, Ji Fenghe tossed a room key to Lu Xun.
"There's still some hot water left. Let's go clean up. We'll probably have to spend the night here."
Song Mai glanced at the rain outside the window and said encouragingly:
"Alright, let's stop scaring ourselves. Maybe the rain will stop in a little while. There's no point in thinking about it too much. I believe Yunxing won't abandon us. The branch office is also trying to find a solution. They won't let us stay here indefinitely."
Lu Xun nodded. Since he was going to wait here anyway, he might as well deal with the situation and figure out a solution comfortably rather than wasting his time in wet clothes.
He picked up the room key and walked towards the room. After handing the phone back to Ji Fenghe, Song Mai borrowed a set of clothes from the shop owners and asked Ji Fenghe to take them to Lu Xun.
Ji Feng returned after a while.
How is the injury?
He sat down beside her and asked, seemingly casually.
At this point, Song Mai had no time to care about the injury on her leg.
Besides, she only fell and scraped her skin, but her bones were fine.
She answered absentmindedly.
"fine."
What she just said seemed very optimistic and positive, but she was not without fear in her heart.
A pale, bony hand reached out to her, holding a brown medicine bottle and a small bag of cotton swabs.
Song Mai looked at him with some surprise: "What's this?"
"The disinfectant solution isn't clean because of the standing water. The wound still needs to be disinfected after being soaked in water. We don't have any medicine for bruises, so we'll just have to make do with this."
Looking at the Spanish on the medicine bottle, she could guess without him saying it that he probably borrowed it from the shop owner.
He is quite thoughtful.
Seeing Ji Feng's indifferent expression, yet doing the exact opposite, Song Mai couldn't help but feel moved. She took the medicine bottle and sincerely thanked him.
"Thanks."
Ji Fenghe remained indifferent, pursed his lips without saying anything, but the temperature in his eyes clearly rose a few degrees.
Song Mai scraped off a large patch of skin from her knee and soaked it in the puddles for a while. Although she washed it with clean water after arriving at the hotel, she didn't disinfect it. Now it's red and swollen, looking rather unsightly.
She took out a cotton swab, dipped it in some medicine, and gently wiped the wound. But as soon as the medicine touched the wound, she gasped in pain, her face contorting in pain.
"Does it hurt a lot?"
Ji Feng turned his head to look at her.
Song Mai bit her lip to keep from crying out.
She was in so much pain that her face turned pale, and she practically forced out the three words through clenched teeth.
What do you think?
"How about I help you handle it?"
Song Mai shook her head without hesitation:
"Thank you, but no need, I can do it myself."
Although it hurt, it wasn't so bad that she needed someone else to help her apply medicine. Besides, he was a man, so even if he applied medicine, it wouldn't be a big deal. But she still felt something was off.
