Chapter 196 A Good Night's Sleep

Song Mai immediately stood up: "Then I'll go tell them right now!"

But as I stood up, I remembered that it was already past midnight, and it would be dawn in two hours. They were exhausted and had probably just fallen asleep.

"It seems a bit late, so I'll talk to them after they get up."

The man pulled her into his arms and made her sit down.

"That's possible, but I don't recommend it, as it's somewhat dangerous. It would be better to let everyone rest and recuperate until the rain stops before leaving."

Song Mai nodded, agreeing that what he said made some sense.

She paused for a moment before realizing that she was sitting on his lap, her arms unconsciously wrapped around his waist, the two of them so close that she could even feel the warmth of his breath.

Two blushes involuntarily rose on Song Mai's cheeks. Just as the man's ring finger lightly touched her earlobe through the stray hairs by her temple, she felt her heart pounding so fast it seemed it would explode at any moment.

"I'm going to take a shower first."

Her face turned bright red. Without giving the man any chance to react, she jumped off his lap and fled into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

"Oh……"

The man couldn't help but chuckle softly, and the weariness in his eyes was greatly relieved by the smile.

In an instant, it was like a spring breeze gently caressing the fields, exuding elegance and charm.

When Song Mai came out of the bathroom, the man had already changed out of the clothes that Song Mai had soiled and was wearing a light gray pajamas set, which looked casual and comfortable.

He was leaning against the headboard reading a book. The lights in the room had been turned off, leaving only a bedside reading lamp. The dim light made him feel warm and safe.

Hearing the door open, the man looked up at her, a hint of a smile in his eyes, and Song Mai's heart skipped a beat.

The man patted the bed beside him, silently extending an invitation to Song Mai.

For no apparent reason, she suddenly felt a little nervous.

Chu Xing seemed to notice the woman's tension and smiled:

"Aren't you sleepy? If you don't go to sleep soon, it will be dawn."

Seeing his reaction, Song Mai couldn't help but think to herself: [What am I so nervous about? He didn't mean anything by it, yet I'm overthinking things.]

"Sleep, I'll sleep now."

She gave a slightly embarrassed laugh, then quickly walked to the other side of the bed, lifted the covers, and lay down.

Chu Xing casually placed the book on the bedside table, turned off the bedside lamp, and pulled the woman into his arms.

Song Mai was indeed exhausted. The fear and anxiety of the past two days had left her feeling physically and mentally drained. As soon as she lay down, the familiar and pleasant scent of the man filled her nostrils, giving her a sense of peace.

She soon regained her breathing.

Feeling her warmth and listening to the woman's breathing, Chu Xing couldn't help but smile slightly.

The next day, everyone slept in late, and Song Mai didn't wake up until noon.

She slept very comfortably. She stretched and unconsciously turned over. The moment she opened her eyes, she was met with the man's gaze.

"woke up?"

Song Mai was wrapped in a blanket, with only her little head showing. One of her legs was draped over him, and her little face was flushed. She looked extremely cute.

"Yes, I'm awake."

Chu Xing lay on his side, propping his head up with one hand as he looked at her, his voice filled with an indescribable doting affection.

"Do you want to sleep a little longer? Are you hungry?"

He shouldn't have said anything, because as soon as he did, Song Mai's stomach growled in perfect unison.

"Okay, I got it. Get up and wash up. I'll have the hotel send some food over."

Song Mai immediately nodded in agreement.

She crawled out of bed and went to the bathroom with her hair a mess.

It wasn't until I saw myself in the mirror that I realized how disheveled I was.

No wonder he had been smiling the whole time. She assumed he was in a good mood, but she never expected he was actually laughing at her.

The hotel had a backup power supply, so it was not affected by the power outage. The hotel staff were also very efficient; when Song Mai finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, her food had already been delivered.

The man set the food on the table, and seeing that Song Mai had finished washing up, he considerately handed her chopsticks.

Song Mai was starving. After eating dry bread for two days in a row, everything tasted delicious to her.

I used to think the food at this hotel was just so-so, but now that I'm really hungry, I realize I was being too picky.

She barely said a word during the meal, while Chu Xing ate slowly and deliberately, and she practically wolfed down her food.

She didn't feel truly alive until she finished eating.

Song Mai leaned back in her chair, patting her round belly, her eyes slightly narrowed, a feeling of indescribable happiness on her face.

What are your plans for this afternoon?

Song Mai shook her head.

"There's no way to go out in this condition, so we can only stay in the room and wait for the rain to stop."

The man quietly cleared away the plates and notified the hotel staff to come and collect them.

"Actually, we don't necessarily have to stay in the room. At least we can move around in the hotel. Do you want to go out and have some fun?"

Chu Xing looked at her with a mysterious expression.

Song Mai was puzzled. She had been staying at the hotel for a few days and, apart from the better service and nicer environment, there seemed to be no difference. But Chu Xing's words suggested that there were things about the hotel that she was unaware of.

Could it be that there's a hidden paradise somewhere else?

Unfortunately, I can't go back now, and my work has been put on hold. I can only stay in this hotel and wait for the rain to stop and flights to resume.

The only thing that made her feel somewhat at ease was that the land purchase contract with the Western government had been signed, so this trip wasn't a complete waste.

Since she had nothing better to do than go with him since she couldn't even use her phone, she figured she might as well go and take a look.

With that in mind, Song Mai agreed.

She changed into a simple, loose-fitting outfit, still wearing the hotel's cotton slippers. She wasn't wearing makeup, and her skin was so soft it looked like you could squeeze water out of it. She looked completely relaxed.

There weren't many guests in the hotel at this time of year, and with the sudden torrential rain, almost everyone stayed in their rooms and didn't want to move.

The corridor was quiet. As Song Mai passed by the doors of the other people's rooms, a question suddenly occurred to her.

He then looked at Chu Xing and asked in a low voice:

"So they know about our relationship, and you're still in my room?"

The man looked at her with a half-smile: "Do you want them to know or not?"

Song Mai shrugged indifferently.

"What's this about wanting or not wanting? Isn't our relationship a fait accompli? Even if I don't deliberately say it, they'll find out sooner or later. I won't hide it or deliberately announce it to everyone. It's just a very normal thing, isn't it?"

Upon hearing this, Chu Xing smiled as he observed how well Song Mai had adapted to their marital relationship.
