In desperation, he could only make up a story to let Ji Fenghe leave first.
At that moment, Lu Xun called him, and for a moment he didn't realize the reason he had just made up.
After a moment's thought, he said, "I think I dialed the wrong number just now. Is something wrong? Has the rain stopped over there?"
"not yet."
"Okay, then you can wait there patiently. Let me know as soon as the rain stops, and the company will arrange for you to return to China."
"OK."
After Lu Xun agreed, there was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone. Lu Xun waited for a long time but his assistant did not speak again.
They couldn't help but tentatively ask:
"Then what?"
"That's all. Hang up if you have nothing else to say."
After saying that, he decisively hung up the phone.
Lu Xun stared in disbelief at the now-black screen, utterly speechless.
That's it?
Is it really that simple that Ji Fenghe had to come over and ask him to call back?
You could just tell Ji Fenghe this in one sentence and have him relay it. Why go through all this trouble and roundabout procedures?
That's really strange.
This was something inexplicably unusual about Assistant Lu.
After returning to her room, Song Mai fell asleep as soon as she sat down on the bed, her face flushed, and she kept smacking her lips while hugging the blanket.
Compared to her carefree demeanor, Chu Xing had a lot of questions he wanted to ask her, but the woman was completely drunk and unconscious.
Song Mai slept until evening before waking up, feeling a splitting headache.
She covered her head and got out of bed. The room was dimly lit, but she could vaguely see a figure on the chair by the window.
"Headache?"
The man's voice was deep and hoarse, with a hint of coldness in the ending notes, making one feel a chill upon hearing it.
"Um."
Song Mai sat there blankly, squeezing out a sound from her nose.
He looked dazed, staring out the window at the pitch blackness, as if he had no idea what year it was.
"Smack—"
The room lights were suddenly turned on, and Song Mai covered her eyes, feeling very uncomfortable.
When she opened her eyes, a bowl of hangover soup appeared in front of her.
"This is?"
"I drank it."
"oh."
The man succinctly placed the small bowl of hangover soup into her hands; the atmosphere in the room was somewhat tense.
Song Mai had just woken up and was a beat slow to react. In addition, she couldn't see the man's expression clearly. She could only sense that the man seemed a little unhappy, but in the end, there couldn't be poison in that bowl.
After drinking a bowl of warm hangover soup, Songmai felt a little better.
Lying in bed, feeling utterly bored, she took out her phone, which she had kept in a drawer for a long time and had never turned off.
Desperate, she charged the phone, and it actually turned on and worked normally.
She wanted to share this joy with Chu Xing, but seeing the man typing away on his laptop, she swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue.
Over the course of several days, Su He and Lin Ran sent her many messages, and even Tang Lanlan sent some, asking how she was doing.
Her continued silence only fueled their anxiety.
Fortunately, the phone is working normally now. Song Mai explained what happened and chatted with them for a while.
Lin Ran replied to her message almost instantly. After learning that she was safe and Chu Xing was with her, Lin Ran felt relieved. They chatted briefly and then agreed to meet for a meal when she got back to talk about her experiences over the past few days.
Time passed by, and it was getting later and later. The man was still busy with his work. Song Mai had slept for almost a whole day. Although it was already late, she was extremely sleepy and had no desire to sleep at all.
She wanted to talk to Chu Xing, but didn't want to bother him, so she just played on her phone to pass the time.
She hadn't eaten anything all day except for lunch, and now that she was sober, she felt a bit hungry.
"I'd like to order some food. Do you have anything you'd like to eat?"
She asked Chu Xing in a low voice.
The man didn't even raise his head.
"Just order what you want."
Song Mai didn't know what she had done to upset him. She remembered that he was fine when they were soaking in the hot spring together, so why was he acting like this after she woke up?
Could it be that he was upset because she drank too much and fell asleep?
Song Mai called the hotel, picked out some of Chu Xing's favorite dishes, and then tiptoed to the man's side, clinging to his back like a koala.
Are you angry?
"No."
The man's computer screen displayed rows of complex data, which made Song Mai dizzy, so she simply looked away.
"Okay, I know I was wrong. I promise I'll never drink so much again. This time it was because I survived a close call and got a little carried away. Plus, you were there, so I was a bit reckless. I promise I won't do it again next time. Don't be angry, okay?"
She had just gotten up not long ago, and her voice still had a nasal tone, with a kind of coquettish tone.
If Chu Xing was truly angry because she had drunk too much, he would definitely calm down now that she looked like this.
Unfortunately, he wasn't.
He couldn't tell if Song Mai didn't remember or was pretending. Did she really not think there was anything wrong with her reaction that afternoon?
"How much you drink is your business, I won't interfere."
Judging from the man's tone, Song Mai became even more certain that he was angry because she had drunk too much.
He patiently coaxed her again:
“I know you mean well and care about my health, but I don’t usually drink much, as you know. This time, it was more of a celebration for me, so I drank a bit more. Plus, the wine was really good. Please don’t be angry with me about this, okay? Next time, I promise I won’t drink if I can avoid it, and if I have to, I’ll drink less.”
However, the man's expression did not improve at all because of her apology; on the contrary, it became even more unpleasant.
"I'm working, you're disturbing me."
Song Mai didn't understand why this was happening. He clearly hadn't made a big mistake, and he wasn't a petty or calculative person. Why was he being so cold and hard about this?
"Ding-dong—"
The doorbell rang; it was a hotel staff member delivering her meal.
Song Mai opened the door to let the delivery person in. She had ordered quite a lot; she was starving and just wanted a big meal. She ordered some of her favorite dishes and some of his.
After the hotel staff finished setting out the food on the table and left, Song Mai looked at the table full of delicious food and suddenly felt a strong urge to eat.
She wore her slippers to the hot spring area, and when she returned, she was asleep. Chu Xing carried her back to her room, so the slippers were left there.
She was barefoot on the floor, and her feet soon became cold.
"Dinner's ready."
I'm not hungry.
The man didn't move, so Song Mai went to invite him herself, feeling somewhat helpless.
Who told me to make them angry?
