Little did they know that the real Chu family's old residence was in Nandu, and had a history of several hundred years, making it a historical and cultural building.
Previously, this house had been managed by the housekeeper, Uncle Chen, and no one lived there.
Later, when Chu Mingqian and his wife were transferred abroad for work, they entrusted Chu Xing to the care of Grandpa Chu.
After retiring, Grandpa Chu lived in Kyoto until Chu Xing went to high school. Chu Xing also went abroad to study. So he returned to his old house in Nandu to recuperate. Later, Chu Xing graduated and returned to China to found Yunxing in Nandu. The grandfather and grandson then officially settled down in Nandu.
As soon as Chu Xing stepped into the courtyard, Uncle Chen came out to greet him.
"Young Master, you're back."
The man's expression darkened slightly as he walked straight into the house.
Chu Mingqian and Qin Jizhi were already waiting for him in the living room. Old Master Chu sat in a rocking chair, his cane casually leaning against the side, occasionally swaying it gently.
As soon as Chu Xing stepped into the living room, an unidentified object flew straight towards him, grazed his ear, and landed on the floor by the door. With a "crack," it shattered into a single shard of porcelain.
He glanced at it and realized it was a fine Ru kiln teacup, one of the sets that Old Master Chu liked the most.
The man's already unattractive expression darkened even further.
Chu Mingqian, however, did not notice the change in Chu Xing's expression at all.
He roared in fury:
"You still know how to come back!"
Chu Xing glanced at him indifferently.
"Didn't you tell me to come back?"
Chu Mingqian was furious. Ever since he learned that the woman had been assigned to Yunxing by Chu Xing, he had been holding back his anger with nowhere to vent it.
He hadn't expected that woman to be so capable, capable of making Chu Xing so infatuated with her.
A man who always kept public and private matters separate would actually use his privileges to arrange for a woman to join Yunxing and treat her well.
What legitimate business could this woman possibly be doing in Yunxing?
I'm afraid he's just thinking about how to use this close contact to confuse Chu Xing.
"Everyone's here today, so in front of everyone, just tell us a specific time: when exactly do you plan to divorce that woman?"
A cold glint flashed in Chu Xing's eyes, his gaze freezing into countless icicles the moment it met Chu Mingqian's, as if they were about to shoot straight at Chu Mingqian in the next second.
"When did I ever say I wanted a divorce from her?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Old Master Chu.
The grandfather and grandson looked at each other, and a hint of helplessness immediately appeared in the old man's eyes.
Clearly, he had already said everything he could and tried to persuade them, but Chu Mingqian and Qin Jizhi simply didn't listen to him and were extremely stubborn, leaving him with no other option.
Chu Mingqian slammed his hand on the table and stood up abruptly, his voice filled with rage.
The roar echoed throughout the living room.
He was a soldier by birth, possessing a sharp and imposing presence. In addition, having commanded peacekeeping forces for many years, he had become accustomed to fighting, killing, and bloodshed, and his body was already imbued with endless killing intent and ferocity.
He was truly enraged at this moment, and his appearance was chilling, like a great general who commands thousands of troops and, once he gets angry, will have dozens of people splattered with blood on the spot before he can quell his rage.
"I won't get a divorce, what do you want! You're completely ignoring what I said, aren't you? What I told you last time wasn't for nothing! Don't you even know what that woman is like, what kind of family she comes from? How can a woman like that be worthy of you!"
Chu Xing exuded an astonishing aura. Although he didn't show his joy like Chu Mingqian and vent all his anger, the pressure around him was so low that it was hard to breathe.
"What about her background? What about her family? Is that all you look at? If my mother didn't have a good background, you wouldn't have chosen her either, right?"
Upon hearing this, Qin Jizhi, who had been about to speak, pursed his lips, seemingly swallowing back the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
Chu Mingqian glared at Chu Xing with uncontrollable rage.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Stop trying to sow discord between me and your mother! Your mother and I have genuine feelings for each other! Besides, how can you compare such a woman to your mother! Even if your mother comes from a poor family, her character and talent are second to none. Of course, I wouldn't choose her just because of her background. Putting such a woman alongside your mother is clearly an insult to her!"
"How do you know Song Mai is a bad person? She's a good person too, and she has many admirable qualities. Why do you reject her just because of her background?"
Chu Xing's voice was extremely cold. Although he didn't shout like Chu Mingqian, the curve of his lips and the mockery and coldness in his eyes clearly showed that he was truly angry.
Chu Mingqian's face turned ashen as he saw that he was still speaking up for Song Mai, clutching his chest and panting heavily.
"That woman is good? What's so good about her? As far as I know, she started making a living from scratch when she was underage, hanging around all sorts of places, and she had an ambiguous relationship with a man who was almost old enough to be her father. Even after you married her, she didn't break off her relationship with that other man. Didn't her parents and that other man cause trouble at the company several times? What else do you have to say?"
"You're willing to date a woman like that, but my Chu family can't afford to lose face like that! I heard that when you went on a trip with her, she almost got you shot in a vital spot by a wanted criminal and nearly killed you! If it weren't for her, you wouldn't have ended up like this! You're the only son of my Chu family in this generation. What will your mother and I do if something happens to you! Have you thought about me, your grandfather, or your mother?"
Listening to Chu Mingqian's incessant rant about Song Mai's faults, even though Song Mai was the victim in every single one of the things he mentioned, he still insisted on blaming Song Mai.
He claimed that he was forced to work odd jobs to make a living, which he described as him wandering around various places. He also claimed that he was sold to Liu Weiqiang by his own parents for a bride price, and that he was almost kidnapped several times, which he described as him having an ambiguous relationship with an older man.
She suffered an undeserved disaster and even shielded him from a bullet at a crucial moment. Such sincerity, yet Chu Mingqian accused her of causing him danger and almost costing him his life.
How ridiculous!
Was it that he was unaware of the whole situation, or did he clearly know everything but still pin all the blame on her?
The man gave a cold laugh, his gaze chilling.
"Do you know why she's been looking for a living everywhere? Is she just bored? And why did that old man approach her? Is she having an affair with him, or is she being harassed by him? Also, you said she almost got shot, but do you know that at that critical moment, she disregarded her own safety, took a bullet for me, and traded her own life for mine?"
If he doesn't know, then what gives him the right to make arbitrary judgments based on his limited understanding?
