Chapter 227 Vanished into thin air

It was already quite late, and they needed to set off back to Nandu that afternoon.

Just as he was sweating profusely after the surgery, his cell phone suddenly rang in his pocket.

The man quickly pulled out his phone from his pocket, hoping it was Song Mai calling, but when he looked at the caller ID, he realized it was the legal counsel who had come with the project team.

"Team Leader Li, are you back yet? We need to check out at 2 PM. Aren't we leaving for Nandu at 2 PM?"

Team Leader Li did not answer the legal department's question. He glanced at the time on his wristwatch; it was already one o'clock.

"Did Song Mai go back?"

It has been almost an hour since Song Mai said she was going to the milk tea shop. If she went back to the hotel first, she should have arrived by now.

The legal counsel looked completely bewildered by his question.

"No, wasn't she with you? Why would she come back?"

Upon hearing this, the last glimmer of hope in Team Leader Li's heart was completely shattered.

Time ticked by, and if things continued like this, it was unclear how long it would take to find Song Mai.

The others are still waiting to return to Southern Metropolis Daily.

He took a breath and said in a deep voice, "Song Mai is missing. I'll stay here to report her missing to the police. You all return to Nandu on time."

"What? What do you mean she's gone? Didn't she go with you to see someone off?"

Legal professionals are increasingly feeling like they have a reading disability.

She could understand every word that Team Leader Li said, but when put together, it felt very fantastical to her.

How could a perfectly healthy person suddenly disappear?

Does it mean they got separated or something else?

Team Leader Li also found it bizarre.

"I don't know either. After dropping her off, I went to the restroom for a few minutes. She said she was going to buy a milk tea at the milk tea shop next door. We agreed that I would meet her at the milk tea shop, but she wasn't there. I asked the staff at the milk tea shop, and they said that she had never been there and that her phone was switched off. It's like she's vanished into thin air. I've searched the entire airport but haven't found her."

Upon hearing this, the legal representative immediately said, "Could something have happened?"

Team Leader Li rubbed his temples, his nerves stretched to the limit. He didn't know how things had turned out this way; he had only come to drop someone off.

He couldn't figure out why Song Mai left on her own. Similarly, if someone had done something to Song Mai that caused her to meet with misfortune, this was, after all, an airport with such a large flow of people. Even if someone wanted to harm her, they wouldn't have chosen such a place.

Even if someone were so brazen as to choose this location, it's impossible that no one would have noticed it.

Team Leader Li was completely baffled and could only call the police first.

"I don't know. You guys should go back when it's time. I'll stay and call the police to handle this. I'll report it to the company."

"good."

The legal team was also very worried, but there was no trace of Song Mai at the moment, so there was no point in them staying. The project contract needed to be taken back, and the project still needed to proceed, so they drove back to Nandu first.

At that moment, Song Mai was pushed into another car.

She was on her way to a bubble tea shop to buy bubble tea, but in the meantime, she suddenly received a call from an unknown number. The person on the other end claimed to be an airport employee who said their car had been hit by someone and that she needed to go to the parking lot immediately.

Song Mai rushed to the parking lot without thinking, intending to check the situation there first before sending a message to Team Leader Li to ask him to come directly to the parking lot.

But as soon as she arrived at the parking lot, a sack was covered over her head, and before she could resist, someone stuffed her into the sack and threw her into the trunk.

She was terrified. The vehicle was constantly jolting, and she didn't know who was attacking her or where she was being taken.

All we know is that her phone was taken from her by someone on the bus as soon as she got on.

"Who exactly are you people? What do you want?"

She herself found it outrageous that someone would do such a thing in broad daylight in a busy place like an airport.

Are they trying to kidnap me?

Or what?

She hadn't offended any powerful figures, nor did she have any enemies.

Who would do this?

However, after she spoke for a while, the car fell silent.

It was so quiet that it was as if she were the only person in the car.

Song Mai panicked. She was stuffed in a sack and couldn't see anything. All she could do was struggle and try to tear a hole in the sack.

However, the sack was too sturdy, and she struggled for a long time without managing to get out. She only managed to kick over an unknown object on the vehicle, making a "thud".

Finally, the people on the bus seemed to grow impatient with her resistance and shouted at her in hoarse voices:

"Stop making a racket! Behave yourself! Or you'll regret it!"

It was a rough, hoarse male voice, somewhat weathered, and Song Mai couldn't discern the speaker's approximate age.

She thought about it for a moment and concluded that the most likely scenario was human trafficking.

She couldn't think of anyone else who could do such a thing.

She was exhausted from struggling. Since she couldn't break free, she decided to conserve her energy and try to get some information out of these people.

"Human trafficking is illegal. If you release me, I'll give you money. Instead of selling me for profit, it's more direct for me to give you money and release me. How about that?"

Silence, still silence.

Clearly, the men who forcibly took her away had no intention of caring about her.

Song Mai's heart was pounding as she replayed the events that had just transpired in her mind.

This all started with that phone call, the one that told her their car had been hit.

This at least shows that the person who did this knew her and had her contact information; it wasn't just a random woman picked up at the airport and kidnapped.

Therefore, the possibility of human trafficking has dropped to only fifty percent.

As for the other half, it's possible someone is seeking revenge.

The car kept moving forward. Song Mai couldn't see anything, but she could hear the outside sounds gradually becoming quieter until she could only hear the wind.

Since she had no choice but to stay in the sack, and Song Mai had no option to force her way out, she had to look for other solutions.

"How much money do you want? I'll give it to you. I'm quite wealthy. Just name your price, and I'll give you whatever you ask!"

"Where are you taking me? Are you planning to sell me or what?"

"How did you get my number? Who are you? Do you know me?"

...

She asked without any hesitation, hoping to obtain a little bit of useful information in this way.

However, her words not only failed to elicit a response from these people, but also greatly annoyed the man who had spoken earlier.

"Shut up! You'll see when we get there!"
