Chapter 24 The Aura of a Boss

The manager was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat, his heart leaping into his throat.

"Assistant Lu, what are you saying? Yujing belongs to the Chu family. What right do I have to speak here? It's just that some thugs used to come here and act like big shots, and over time I subconsciously started to..."

"In the end, it's all because this kid is ignorant. He's new here and doesn't recognize your greatness."

Chu Xing's eyes were as cold and icy as frost and snow.

"I'm not here to interrogate you. Come in."

Upon hearing this, the manager was momentarily stunned and quickly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

He moved closer to the man: "Master Yun, what are your orders?"

The man took a drag of his cigarette and glanced at the manager.

"My people have been drugged here. Don't you owe me an explanation?"

Upon hearing this, the manager broke out in a cold sweat again.

Sweat soaked the back of his shirt, and his heart nearly jumped into his throat.

They said they weren't here to interrogate someone, but what else could it be but an interrogation?

"I didn't know your people were here. If I had known, I would never have allowed this to happen. Master Yun, please forgive me this time..."

The manager was so frightened he almost cried, inwardly cursing the person who had drugged him.

Why mess with this guy of all people? Isn't that just courting death?

Assistant Lu, with a smirk, grabbed the manager and threw him next to the security camera.

"Since you are unaware of this, please cooperate in investigating this matter."

Chu Xing spent a full hour fast-forwarding through the surveillance footage from tonight.

It wasn't until a woman emerged from room 107, where Song Mai was, that they saw her looking somewhat flustered.

Chu Xing's slightly narrowed eyes suddenly snapped open: "Stop!"

The manager's hand trembled, and he quickly pressed the pause button.

"Check this woman's whereabouts."

The Royal View Hotel has a very comprehensive surveillance system, which is designed to retrieve footage as evidence in case guests lose valuables or if any disputes arise.

Sure enough, the woman intercepted the waiter who was delivering wine to VIP room 107 on the way.

Then, taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, he secretly poured a small packet of powder into the decanter.

After making sure the powder had completely dissolved, he straightened his clothes and pushed open the door to the private room.

He recognized the man; he was the receptionist at Songmai Company, and had recently slandered Songmai.

Chu Xing quickly reviewed the surveillance footage again but found nothing unusual about Zheng Yao other than drugging him.

It seems like no one instructed it, but what a coincidence!

She and Fang Yu left early after administering the drug, leaving Song Mai alone.

The bearded man, however, harbored ill intentions towards Song Mai and immediately took action against her.

Chu Xing didn't believe that Zheng Yao had planned all of this by herself, and he didn't think she had that kind of ability.

"Send me a copy of the surveillance video."

"Yes, yes."

After saying this, Chu Xing strode away.

The manager was left slumped on the ground, panting heavily.

The new waiter standing nearby didn't understand why he was so scared and asked, somewhat puzzled, "Manager, that guy called Master Yun didn't seem that scary."

The manager glared at him fiercely: "You little brat, what do you know? Losing your job is a small matter; I almost lost my life! Next time, open your eyes wider and come tell me right away if you see him!"

Chu Xing returned to the hospital at exactly twelve o'clock.

He pushed open the ward door. The woman had finished her IV drip and was lying quietly on the bed.

The room was dark, with no lights on.

Using the light from the corridor, the man walked to the woman's bedside and quietly turned on the bedside lamp.

Under the lamplight, the woman's face appeared even softer. Gone was the almost seductive and alluring quality she possessed when the drug took effect; now she looked incredibly docile.

Just like when he first met her, she was plain and unassuming, somewhat bland.

Like a glass of warm, cool water, it quenches thirst but makes you not want to drink it unless you're extremely thirsty.

The woman clutched the blanket tightly with her small hands, as if she were having a frightening dream, her expression showing some terror.

Chu Xing pulled the blanket up until it covered the woman's shoulders before stopping.

I felt her forehead with my hand, and only when I saw that her temperature had returned to normal did I feel relieved.

He closed the door to the ward, and Assistant Lu stood at the door and asked, "Do you need me to take you home? Miss Song isn't going home tonight, so you can go back to your own home and don't have to suffer there anymore."

"No need, just arrange a ward for me, I'll stay here too."

"yes."

The next morning, Song Mai woke up with a headache.

She felt weak all over as if her body was falling apart with the slightest movement, and her palms were also a little sore.

She looked up and realized that her palm had been bandaged.

Yesterday's memories replayed in her mind. She tried hard to recall everything, and she remembered that in the end, Chu Xing appeared and took her away.

Song Mai forced herself to sit up in bed and looked around. The strong smell of disinfectant made her realize that she was in a hospital.

However, the environment didn't seem quite right. The hospital wards she had been to were all shared, with bunk beds and only one bedside table per person. At most, there might be a TV, but nothing else.

The facilities here are comparable to a four-star hotel, with a soft Simmons bed, fresh flowers on the bedside table, a sofa, a TV and a refrigerator, and even a private bathroom.

Song Mai wanted to get up and check, but she couldn't move because she still had an IV drip in her hand, so she had to call for help.

A nurse came in after hearing the noise. As soon as she saw Song Mai, she said, "Great! You're finally awake. I'll go and tell your husband right away!"

Song Mai stroked the bed sheet; it seemed this really was a hospital.

Two minutes later, Chu Xing walked in, wearing an inexpensive black and gray suit, carrying two lunchboxes that looked like they were bought from a breakfast stall outside.

Song Mai recalled how she looked in front of him last night, her cheeks flushed, and she coughed lightly.

"You've come..."

The man hummed in agreement, placed the lunchbox on the bedside table, and opened it. Inside was a bowl of plain porridge and a serving of steamed buns—simple yet appetizing.

Song Mai fumbled around for a while before finding her phone next to her pillow. When she looked at the time, it was already nine o'clock in the morning.

"Oh no, I'm late!"

She made a move to pull the needle out of her hand.

"Are you out of your mind?"

The man quickly stopped her, saying, "The doctor said the medication in your body is very strong, and you need another IV drip to fully recover. Just lie down and rest."

"But I still have to go to work!"

The man shoved the spoon into her hand:

"I asked for leave for you first thing this morning. As soon as your manager heard you were sick, he approved the leave without saying a word. Don't worry about getting better. The company won't go bankrupt if you miss a day of work."

Song Mai felt a little relieved, but still felt a pang of heartache.

Missing one day of work means losing my perfect attendance bonus for the month and having my salary docked, a total of 500 yuan less.
