Chapter 247 Rainy Night

Song Mai arrived at Ji Fenghe's office, forced herself to cheer up, and walked in with a smile.

Ji Fenghe glanced at it, then continued staring at the document in his hand, and said helplessly, "Stop laughing, it looks worse than crying."

She felt somewhat helpless and did not respond immediately.

After a moment of silence, Ji Fenghe handed her the documents in his hand.

"This is the final plan for the project, so prepare well. You'll be meeting with the other company's representative tomorrow afternoon, so don't let your guard down."

The other party is a foreign company that has come to China to develop its business and hopes to cooperate with established companies.

This can reduce risks and improve reputation.

They temporarily set their sights on Yunxing Group, but they couldn't resist the eagerness of other competitors.

Song Mai understood the seriousness of the matter, nodded solemnly, and accepted the document: "I will do my best."

Just as she turned to leave, Ji Fenghe suddenly called out to her and said in a low voice, "You've been lost in thought all day. Are you having some trouble?"

Song Mai didn't want her family affairs to be known by others, so she gently shook her head: "No."

"If you encounter any difficulties, please let us know, and the company will do its best to help you."

Song Mai hesitated for a moment, then nodded, thanked him softly, and left.

Ji Fenghe put down his pen and stared thoughtfully at her retreating figure.

When Song Mai is engrossed in her work, she can temporarily forget her daily troubles. Time flies by, and Su He pats her back, gently reminding her.

"It's time to leave work, aren't you going?"

Yunxing Group has always discouraged overtime work; except in special circumstances, almost everyone leaves as soon as they finish get off work.

Song Mai pretended to be busy flipping through a stack of documents in her hands, and said in a low voice, "I still have work to finish, I'll go back later."

"Weren't all the tasks for today completed?" Su He asked, puzzled.

However, given Song Mai's serious expression, she didn't say anything more.

Before she knew it, it was 11 p.m. She looked up wearily and froze the moment she saw the time.

Although she wanted to work overtime for a little while, she never expected to return so late.

At most, he wanted to wait until Chu Xing fell asleep before going back so he wouldn't feel awkward. But now it seems like he deliberately stayed out all night.

She struggled to move her wheelchair away, her head aching. The corridor was dimly lit, and she moved slowly, her mind filled with images of horror movies.

While waiting for the elevator, she even closed her eyes tightly in fear, worried that she would see a horrifying scene.

Suddenly, she felt a force propelling her wheelchair.

I initially thought it was the wind, but only when I actually felt the wheelchair moving did I realize that it wasn't my imagination.

"Ah..." She instinctively wanted to scream, especially when she felt a large hand gently resting on her shoulder.

"It's me." Ji Feng's gentle voice came, which made Song Mai breathe a sigh of relief.

She instinctively widened her eyes, still shaken: "How come Manager Ji walks so quietly?"

"I called you, but your eyes were closed. I thought you were asleep." Ji Fenghe said helplessly. It seemed that his soft call had not been heard by her.

How will you get back?

It's not safe for a girl to take a taxi alone so late at night.

However, Song Mai did not want Ji Fenghe to send her back. She had already had a conflict with Chu Xing, and if he saw Ji Fenghe, she didn't know if it would cause a huge uproar.

"I've already called my husband."

Standing behind Song Mai, Ji Feng nodded slowly and said thoughtfully, "That's good."

Song Mai wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but she sensed a hint of disappointment in his voice. However, Ji Fenghe had no reason to be disappointed; she was probably overthinking it.

"Manager Ji, you should go back first, it's getting late," Song Mai urged.

Ji Feng nodded and left without saying a word.

Fortunately, when Ji Feng left, he left Song Mai in the lobby on the first floor. There was no one in the lobby at the time, but the light was bright, so there was nothing to be afraid of.

She took out her phone, still debating whether or not to call Chu Xing.

Just thinking about the two of them made her feel upset.

She had to admit that she could no longer live without Chu Xing.

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a deafening clap of thunder, and then a torrential downpour began.

This time, I really can't go home.

Song Mai chuckled self-deprecatingly and began to think about where she could temporarily rest in the office.

What was Chu Xing doing at this moment? Was he worried about why he hadn't returned home yet, or was he already too tired to sleep and had fallen into a deep sleep?

There were still no message notifications on the phone; Chu Xing seemed determined not to have any contact with him.

Song Mai sighed and sat quietly in her wheelchair, watching the thunderstorm outside.

"Was that Ji Fenghe just now?"

Chu Xing's voice came from beside her ear, and Song Mai, who was in a daze, subconsciously felt a jolt in her heart.

Turning her head, she saw him standing not far away, quietly watching her, expressionless, with a hint of coldness in his voice.

Judging from the fact that he didn't bring an umbrella, he must have been waiting here for a while.

"Why are you here?" A hint of surprise flashed in Song Mai's eyes, and the corners of her mouth slowly turned up.

Chu Xing said wearily, "Since you haven't come home so late, I naturally had to come and check on you."

For some reason, upon hearing this answer, Song Mai didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Chu Xing's excuse was so far-fetched that she didn't even have a chance to interject.

"I see." Song Mai looked at him with a half-smile, as if to say something pointed, "Why didn't you come to help me push my wheelchair just now?"

Chu Xing glanced down at her but did not respond.

The two of them rushed into the rain, but fortunately Chu Xing had prepared an umbrella in advance, which prevented them from getting soaked.

The sound of raindrops hitting the umbrella eaves, mixed with the rain, creates a unique kind of romance.

The wheelchair moved slowly forward, Chu Xing's umbrella tilting towards Song Mai. By the time he got into the car, his back was already soaked with sweat.

"Why did you get caught in the rain?" Song Mai looked at him with concern and asked anxiously.

Chu Xing looked up and said casually, "It's nothing."

An awkward atmosphere filled the air once again, and the two continued their silent war without saying a word.

Seeing that they were almost home, Song Mai couldn't help but sigh slightly, and then said in a low voice, "I ran into Ji Fenghe by chance. He took me downstairs because he was worried that I would be scared."

"Afraid?" This was something Chu Xing had never considered.

"Yeah, the hallway lights are too dim, I can't see anything," Song Mai replied casually, then awkwardly continued, "How are things between you and Liu Jia'er?"

The moment Chu Xing heard the name, he slammed on the brakes.

Song Mai was caught off guard and nearly crashed into the glass.
