"It's nothing, just a minor incident." Bai Wan'er didn't take it to heart.
Lin Ran, however, couldn't swallow her anger and said irritably, "It's really a downer to meet someone like this."
After saying that, he suddenly realized that Song Xingchen was still next to Yun Ye's girlfriend, and subconsciously tried to make amends: "But that's not what I meant, I just hate her so much."
"It's okay, we've already broken up."
Chu Yunxing spoke abruptly, his gaze fixed on Bai Wan'er as he said this.
It sounded like he was explaining something, but it also sounded like he was talking to himself.
Bai Wan'er nodded thoughtfully, showing no interest whatsoever in their affair.
“If she offended you, I apologize on her behalf,” Chu Yunxing added.
He gazed at Bai Wan'er silently, as if trying to detect even the slightest hesitation in her eyes.
To his disappointment, Bai Wan'er showed no reaction whatsoever, as if it were just an ordinary, everyday matter.
A faint sense of disappointment flashed through Chu Yunxing's heart, but she quickly realized that she was not Song Mai, so why should she expect her to be jealous because of Song Xingchen?
He concealed the disappointment in his eyes, inwardly mocking himself for overthinking.
This face, and the feeling she gave him, were so similar to Song Mai that he fell for her without realizing it.
"If you two have nothing else to do, I'll head over there." Bai Wan'er was already reluctant to participate in such occasions, and now she was even more exhausted.
Chu Yunxing hesitated, worried that his initiative would scare her away, so he could only compromise.
Jiang Jibai scoffed, "Your little scheme has already been seen through. You'd better save your energy. But I can help you find out; maybe I'll get some new information."
After he finished speaking, he began to plant spies to keep an eye on Bai Wan'er.
Ji Fenghe rushed over at this moment, standing beside the exhausted Bai Wan'er with a face full of apology: "I'm sorry, something came up at the company."
“You shouldn’t apologize to me for being late, but to Mrs. Jiang. Fortunately, the birthday party hasn’t officially started yet, so you’re not too late.” Bai Wan’er smiled and straightened his collar.
Their open and intimate interactions constantly told everyone that they had been together for a long time.
This scene pierced Chu Yunxing's heart, and he instinctively turned his gaze away, not wanting to look any longer.
But their bodies were very honest; they were watching each other out of the corner of their eyes, so much so that they took in all of their movements.
At the start of the birthday banquet, Mrs. Jiang simply gave a brief speech without going into lengthy remarks.
The next part was still a free interaction session. Mrs. Jiang noticed that her son was paying close attention to Bai Wan'er, so she jokingly asked, "Could this Miss Bai be the girl you like?"
Jiang Jibai repeatedly denied it: "How could that be? The girl I like is someone else."
Mrs. Jiang stopped joking and said kindly, "How could I not know what my son is thinking? The girl you really like is Miss Lin, isn't she? Ever since she came here, your eyes have never left her."
His face flushed, and he turned around: "Mom, didn't I tell you not to worry about me anymore? Marriage is a big deal and can't be rushed. No matter how much you urge me, it won't make a difference."
"You silly child, I'm already sixty years old, and Old Yang next door is already taking care of his second grandson. When are you going to bring me a wife?"
His mother's concerned gaze left him feeling helpless. He calmed himself down and said softly, "Mom, I know you're anxious, but they haven't considered it yet."
"Is it that you don't have this idea, or that you haven't expressed your feelings at all?"
No one knows a child better than their mother. Jiang Jibai hadn't expected her to be able to see right through him. With a worried look on his face, he said helplessly, "I will try my best, so you don't need to worry."
Nevertheless, Mrs. Jiang couldn't help but offer her some words of advice.
This scene left Chu Yunxing, who was standing to the side, unsure of how to react.
He smiled and shook his head, realizing he had never spoken to Qin Jizhi like this before.
She was so assertive that she wanted to control everything about herself.
However, Chu Yunxing was not someone who could be easily manipulated, and over time, the mother and son naturally became adversaries.
Chu Yunxing slowly approached Bai Wan'er, who was standing alone, and asked with a smile, "Why didn't An'an come along?"
“The child is timid, so I let her stay at home.”
Chu Yunxing nodded thoughtfully, and was about to continue speaking when he saw Ji Fenghe slowly walking over.
He took advantage of today's opportunity to contact many prestigious entrepreneurs in Nandu. Just now, he was holding a wine glass and discussing cooperation with others. In the process, he inevitably overlooked Bai Wan'er.
When he turned around and saw Chu Yunxing taking the initiative to talk to him, he immediately became alert.
As if asserting his sovereignty, he gently placed his hand on Bai Wan'er's waist.
"Master Yun, I was just wondering when I could have a private chat with you. It seems you're honored by my presence." Ji Fenghe subtly changed the subject.
Chu Yunxing's gaze gently fell on his hand, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes.
Although it was fleeting, Ji Fenghe still noticed it.
"You've been abroad for the past few years, and the Ji family has been in complete chaos. Now that you're back, what are your plans?" Chu Yunxing's words sounded more like a probe.
Ji Feng waved his hand dismissively, saying, "Let's take it one step at a time. That's life; plans can never keep up with changes."
"Good luck."
Seeing Chu Yunxing's somewhat forlorn figure, Bai Wan'er felt a pang of sadness.
Just as she was about to go somewhere else to distract herself, a string of Buddhist prayer beads on the soles of her feet caught her attention.
This string of Buddhist prayer beads seems to be the one Chu Yunxing is wearing on his wrist. Because it is quite expensive, I had just glanced at it and it left a deep impression on me.
Such a valuable item was thrown away so easily; presumably, Chu Yunxing didn't need to treat it as a treasure.
"I'll go talk to a few more bosses later. Are you okay here by yourself?" Ji Fenghe was worried about Bai Wan'er, but he was also unwilling to waste an opportunity for no reason.
"It's alright, you can go ahead."
After watching Tu leave, Bai Wan'er subconsciously looked for Lin Ran, only to find that she had also disappeared.
Never mind, she got up and wandered around.
The back door was open. After passing through the emergency exit, I found myself in a small garden.
It was already late, and only a few dim streetlights were on, making the place look even more desolate.
She actually quite liked this feeling; the noise of the whole world was irrelevant to her, and only this small space could bring her joy.
A breeze blew by, and with the sound of leaves rustling, a minty-scented jacket was gently draped over my body.
