Chapter 35 Be Gentle

"Of course."

The man didn't say much, just a few words, and then left.

The bedroom door was closed again. In the dimly lit room, Song Mai glanced up and saw a medicine bottle, a glass of water, and a note on the bedside table.

She got up and took the note. On it were a few words written by the man in a flamboyant handwriting: Take your medicine on time.

As Song Mai stroked the note, a warm feeling suddenly welled up in her heart.

It feels so good to be cared for.

She poured out the medicine and put it in her mouth according to the instructions left by Jiang Jibai. The water in the cup had already cooled down.

I don't know when it was placed here.

Maybe it was last night.

Song Mai took a rare day of sick leave.

She was initially concerned about having her attendance bonus deducted, but this time the illness struck so fiercely that she couldn't tough it out. She tried to get up from the bed several times, but she had no strength at all, and even her arms were trembling when she tried to sit up.

Lin Ran sent her a message to check on her, but Song Mai's eyelids felt incredibly heavy after taking her medicine.

My mind was foggy, and I fell asleep soon after.

When I woke up again, it was already afternoon.

The food she made last night was still on the table. Chu Xing hadn't eaten it, but she forced herself to reheat it and wolfed it down.

She hadn't eaten all day and was starving; perhaps it was because she hadn't eaten that she was so listless.

Sure enough, Song Mai felt much better after the meal. She picked up her phone and replied to the messages of concern from several colleagues before going to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

She had just finished washing dishes and stepped out of the kitchen when she heard footsteps at the door, accompanied by the sound of conversation.

Song Mai didn't pay attention to the noise at the door at first. After all, it was an old and dilapidated building with all sorts of residents. It wasn't surprising that someone would be at her door every day.

But the voices grew louder and louder, and Song Mai found the voices somewhat familiar.

It seemed to be her mother and sister-in-law.

Song Mai tiptoed to the door and pressed her ear against it, listening to the sounds outside.

The sound became clearer and reached her ears through the door.

"Mom, we're too early. Song Mai hasn't even gotten off work yet."

"What do you know? We have to be at her door before she gets off work and wait for her. That brat is incredibly smart; she'll run away if we're not careful. If we don't wait here beforehand, how can we catch her?"

Upon hearing this, Sister-in-law Song Mai immediately chimed in, "Mom is right, Mom is so smart."

Song's mother snorted coldly: "This brat is getting more and more arrogant. I've sent her several messages but she hasn't replied. It seems she doesn't want to acknowledge me as her mother anymore."
