"fine."
Chu Xing stepped aside to let him enter first.
Jiang Jibai was about to step inside when Chu Xing stopped him.
The man took a pair of disposable hotel slippers from the drawer and tossed them to him.
"Change your shoes."
"What?"
Jiang Jibai took the slippers with a bewildered look, then glanced at Chu Xing's cheap suit.
If the person in front of him hadn't been just as arrogant as Chu Xing, whom he knew, he would have almost thought he had mistaken someone else for someone else.
"hurry up."
The man urged impatiently.
Although he lived in this house, Song Mai had always done all the cooking and cleaning by herself.
He didn't want Jiang Jibai to ruin her work, so he took out the disposable slippers he had brought back from the hotel and threw them to Jiang Jibai because he had accidentally seen them in the drawer.
Jiang Jibai silently kicked off his two shoes and awkwardly stuffed them into the two slippers that looked like they were taken from a cheap hotel.
Chu Xing led him toward the bedroom, while Jiang Jibai clicked his tongue in amazement as they walked.
"Where is this place? I've never seen anything like it before. Can anyone live here?"
The man glared at him irritably: "Shut up."
Song Mai was half asleep, half waking up. In her hazy state, she seemed to hear someone talking, but she couldn't tell if it was a dream or reality.
Jiang Jibai gave her a simple check-up.
"38.9 degrees Celsius, if treated promptly, it shouldn't be a big problem."
He took a syringe from the medicine box and injected the woman with it.
The moment the needle pierced her flesh, Song Mai on the bed let out a soft moan, her brows furrowing even more, prompting the man beside her to remind her in displeasure.
"Be gentle!"
Jiang Jibai was so angry he wanted to laugh:
"Brother, this is acupuncture. Even if I'm very gentle, it's impossible for you not to feel anything at all. Besides, please trust my professional skills. You don't need to go to such lengths to protect your wife, do you?"
After the injection, Jiang Jibai prescribed several more medications for Song Mai.
The dosage was marked before it was handed over to Chu Xing.
He didn't leave immediately, but waited in the living room for a while.
Chu Xing poured him a glass of water; his tall stature made the room seem even smaller.
Jiang Jibai took a sip of water before finally asking, "What's going on? Where is this? What are you guys playing?"
He bombarded him with a barrage of questions.
Chu Xing glanced at him: "This is her home, and I'm living here now."
Jiang Jibai couldn't help but widen his eyes: "No way, you're not living in your villa but living in this dilapidated building?"
He looked around. The room was pitifully small, and because it was damp, many parts of the walls were moldy. Against the wall was a small, worn-out sofa. Although there was a cushion on it, it was still clear that the sofa was dirty and old, and there was a lot of dirt showing under the cushion.
"So where do you usually sleep?"
He clearly remembered that Chu Xing had said that he and Song Mai were a contractual couple, and they couldn't possibly sleep in the same bed.
The man pointed to a folding bed placed in the gap between the sofa and the refrigerator.
Jiang Jibai instantly admired Chu Xing; it was no easy feat to go to such lengths to please the old man.
The two chatted for a while longer. Jiang Jibai took Song Mai's temperature again and left with his first-aid kit after finding that her temperature had returned to normal.
Before leaving, she instructed Chu Xing to make sure she took her medicine on time.
"Call me again if you need anything."
"good."
Although Song Mai's fever subsided after receiving the antipyretic injection, she was covered in sweat and felt extremely hot.
She pulled the blanket aside and slept hugging the corner of it.
When the man saw her, she was curled up in the middle of the bed, her face as pale as paper, looking fragile and pitiful.
Chu Xing pulled the blanket over her and covered her with it, but she pulled it off again after a short while.
After going back and forth several times, Chu Xing became a little impatient.
They simply wrapped Songmai up tightly in a quilt.
Song Mai was covered in sweat, which soaked her clothes and made them stick to her body. She was also wrapped in a blanket, which made her extremely uncomfortable.
She struggled incessantly, muttering softly, "It's so hot..."
Hearing the sound, Chu Xing finally let her go.
When I touched her arm, it was indeed covered in sweat.
After thinking for a moment, the man went to the bathroom, filled a basin with warm water, took her towel, and carefully wiped her arms and legs. But she was still wearing those wet clothes, and Song Mai tossed and turned on the bed in discomfort, constantly tugging at her clothes as if she wanted to take them off, but she couldn't get them off no matter what she did.
Seeing how uncomfortable she was, Chu Xing wanted to help her take off her clothes, but after thinking it over, he felt it was inappropriate.
Watching the woman writhing in agony, he finally came up with a plan.
After tucking Song Mai into the blanket, he pulled down her pants by her leg and then ripped off her shirt by her collar.
Song Mai immediately felt much more comfortable and stopped pulling back the covers. Instead, she hugged the covers and slept soundly.
Seeing that the woman had stopped struggling and was sleeping peacefully like a cat, Chu Xing closed the door to her bedroom and went back to the living room to sleep.
The next morning, when Song Mai woke up, she felt a sharp pain and dizziness in her head.
She struggled to sit up in bed, supporting her head, and after reaching for her phone on the bedside table, she realized it was only a little past five in the morning.
She was about to lie down and sleep a little longer, but the blanket slipped off as she sat up.
Song Mai looked at herself, and the next second she let out a sharp scream:
"ah--"
Chu Xing had just gotten up when he heard a knocking sound at the door, the voice calm and composed.
