Chapter 382 Someone is calling for Mom

"The police said they've sent more people to track An'an's whereabouts, and I believe we'll have results soon," Chu Yunxing said, gently taking her hand and offering words of comfort.

"Do you think it was a mistake for me to return to China?"

Chu Yunxing didn't know how to answer. After hesitating for a moment, he spoke softly.

"Don't blame yourself entirely for this. Victim blaming is never true. Even if you're abroad, if someone targets you, you'll eventually experience the same thing."

Song Mai nodded, having to admit that he was right.

For him, his current situation can be described as being besieged on all sides.

Perhaps all of these things are because of my identity, or perhaps they are because of other reasons.

"We have news!" The police officer strode over and led the two people to the surveillance area.

The surveillance footage showed a white car taking An'an up the mountain, and then it disappeared.

"At present, we can only roughly determine their whereabouts, because they may have changed their license plates or used some trickery to prevent the surveillance cameras from capturing them."

Knowing that the child was on the mountain, Song Mai and Chu Yunxing didn't wait at all. After telling the others the news, they drove straight up the mountain.

“This place looks familiar. I think I’ve been here in An’an before.”

Song Mai frowned as she looked at the scenery in the picture.

Chu Yunxing guessed, "This place should be a tourist attraction. Why would kidnappers bring a child to a place like this?"

"That's what I'm wondering about too. Could it be that we've misunderstood something?"

"No matter what, it was wrong to take An'an away without permission." Chu Yunxing couldn't help but feel a bit angry.

The car had reached a point where it could go no further. Looking at the brightly lit campsite in the distance, Song Mai felt that An An was still there.

She pointed to the mountaintop: "Let's go take a look over there."

"It's so brightly lit here, why would someone bring a child here?" Chu Yunxing felt something was amiss.

Song Mai frowned wearily and said in a low voice, "I don't know. Just tell me directly. An'an is very likely to be there."

"Okay, I'll go with you to take a look."

Chu Yunxing was willing to believe her unconditionally, even if it was just a gut feeling.

The two reached the mountaintop. Song Mai looked around and saw that there were people everywhere, and he couldn't see anything suspicious.

If the kidnappers are hiding inside, you won't be able to identify them immediately.

Just as the two were anxiously preparing to go down the mountain to meet up with the others, Song Mai suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Mother!"

At that moment, Song Mai rushed over as if she had gone mad.

Unexpectedly, the other person was not the daughter he had been longing for, but just a child with a similar voice.

The child looked at Song Mai rushing towards him and cried out in fear.

The child's parents came out of the tent, saw what was happening, and shouted, "What are you doing!"

"I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else." Song Mai said listlessly, muttering to herself like a robot with its strings cut, devoid of any emotion.

The child's parents, however, were not willing to let her off the hook. Instead, they continued to be aggressive: "You think you can just leave after scaring my child like this? Who knows if you're a child trafficker trying to steal my child!"

"I really mistook you for someone else." Song Mai frowned.

The most important thing now is to find the child; she doesn't want to waste time dealing with these people.

"Don't leave! You scared my child to tears, and you think you can just leave like this? I'm warning you, if you don't give us an explanation today, none of you are leaving!"

The father raised his voice, which quickly drew everyone's attention.

Many people instinctively gathered around, and the crowd grew larger and larger.

The father was overjoyed at the sight and shouted, "Did you see that? These two child traffickers are trying to grab my child! Everyone, please be careful and don't let them get near your children!"

"Isn't this Master Yun? How could he possibly steal your children?"

A passerby noticed Chu Yunxing's dark expression and immediately asked curiously.

"I don't care who you are, Master Yun or Master Yu. Even if the Heavenly King himself came, he would still give me an explanation today!" The man sneered, extremely arrogant.

Upon seeing Yun Xing's appearance clearly the next second, he took two steps back in horror.

"Master Yun, is it really you?! I'm so sorry, Master Yun, please forgive us. I really didn't mean to, I was just so worried about the child's safety!"

Such words obviously could not convince Chu Yunxing.

He frowned in annoyance and stared at them coldly.

"Is this what you call good manners?"

Song Mai had been secretly observing the two men and discovered that they didn't care about the child, and there were even many details that suggested the child wasn't theirs.

She gently nudged Chu Yunxing's sleeve, gesturing for them to look at the baby bottle in the child's hand.

To soothe their child, the couple hurriedly put the bottle into his mouth.

The baby bottle looked like it hadn't been washed in a long time, and the two of them didn't even notice the water temperature. The baby was scalded and cried loudly.

Their every move suggests that the child is not their biological child.

Chu Yunxing also realized this and told the police these details when they arrived.

The police officers, with serious expressions, took the couple and their child back with them.

The little incident came to an end, but An'an was still nowhere to be found.

Song Mai looked up with concern.

The air on the mountain is very fresh, the environment is elegant, and you can see a sky full of stars just by looking up.

The tents are arranged in an orderly fashion, with colorful lights twinkling softly, making them look like a vast ocean of stars when viewed from afar.

People sat casually in front of the tents, chatting with relatives and friends about recent trivial matters. Some were laughing and joking, while others were sobbing uncontrollably.

Everyone is immersed in nature, forgetting the troubles of the world.

If it weren't for An'an's incident, Song Mai might have been sitting in the same spot like everyone else, enjoying the rare peace and quiet.

“An’an wanted me to bring her here before, but I just haven’t had the time.” Song Mai sighed wearily. “The environment here is beautiful; it’s a rare place to rest.”

"Next time we'll bring An'an along." Chu Yunxing pulled her into his arms, preparing to descend the mountain.

Just then, the familiar voice came again.

"Mother--"

Song Mai turned around in a panic and tightly grasped Chu Yunxing's hand.

"I really heard An'an's voice this time, did you hear it?!"

Chu Yunxing nodded with a serious expression: "I heard you."

The two people wouldn't have the same illusion. Chu Yunxing looked around, trying to find the source of the sound.

But no second sound came. Song Mai lowered her eyes in disappointment: "It seems I was just imagining things."

"Mother--"
