Chapter 62 The Feeling of Home

Actually, she didn't need to bring many things with her, but she thought about how she could only live in the house for a year after all.

She'll eventually have to move back to her rented apartment, so these things will still be useful then.

So after picking through everything, Song Mai resolutely brought it all with her.

Chu Xing, on the other hand, showed great adaptability to the new house.

He helped Song Mai put her things away, then took his computer to the study.

Now that he has a big house, he no longer needs to sleep in the living room.

Song Mai ignored him, casually picked a bedroom, put her things inside, tidied up briefly, and then went to the kitchen.

This was her first meal after moving here, and she wanted to prepare something lavish.

She won't have to worry about rent for the next year, and she'll have a lot more money in her pocket.

Song Mai first went to the nearest supermarket and bought a bunch of things to put in the refrigerator. When she entered the house, she saw a small open space next to the wall in the yard. She planned to cultivate a small vegetable garden there in the future so that she could eat vegetables she grew herself.

The man appeared behind her without her noticing, his gaze falling on her with the warmth of the setting sun.

He didn't know what she was thinking; he just saw her staring blankly at the empty space, her expression changing every now and then, vivid and interesting.

"What are you thinking about?"

Song Mai was startled by him.

"I'm thinking about how to plan it out. I'd like to develop a vegetable garden here. What do you think?"

The man's lips curled up slightly, and he seemed to be in a very pleasant mood.

"good."

He was always a man of few words, only offering constructive suggestions at crucial moments; otherwise, he would barely say a few words even if she asked him.

Why did you get down here?

While Song Mai was mentally planning when to buy some vegetable seeds, she casually asked.

"Once I'm done with my work, I'll come down and see if I need any help."

Song Mai counted the vegetables she had bought on her fingers and asked him if there was anything she wanted to eat.

The man stared intently at her. A few beads of sweat clung to the woman's fair forehead, but her eyes were bright and clear, like the first rays of sunlight piercing through the mist in the morning. A smile played on her lips.

That kind of happiness was unstoppable and could not be hidden; it seemed to be a smile from the bottom of one's heart.

She was very happy, and he could feel it without even hearing her thoughts.

Song Mai skillfully tied on the apron she had brought from the old house.

Although the house looks like no one has ever lived there, it is incredibly well-equipped.

From large pieces of furniture to small pots and pans, everything is available. Compared to cooking in such a spacious kitchen, the meals she used to cook in her old, run-down room could only be described as passable.

Song Mai is a very good cook. She has been cooking since she was a child when she lived in the Song family. After she moved out, she mostly cooked to save money, which helped her develop excellent cooking skills.

Chu Xing sat on the sofa in the living room, watching the woman's busy figure through the frosted glass, and suddenly felt a feeling he had never had before.

It's like a sense of belonging, a feeling of home.

Before long, Song Mai served four dishes one by one. Unlike the simple home-cooked dishes she usually made, these dishes looked much better and more refined.

"Try it."

Song Mai handed him the chopsticks.

Chu Xing had tasted Song Mai's cooking before, and although it couldn't compare to a five-star chef, it still had its own unique flavor.

But today, his taste buds were completely awakened after just one bite of the dish.

"How about it?"

The man picked up another piece of yam with his chopsticks; it was smooth and creamy in his mouth.

"fine."

Seeing that he was enjoying his meal, Song Mai sat down and started eating as well.

There was just one dream that felt more urgent than usual at this moment, and it was somewhat fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the group sneaked up to Song Mai's house.

Besides seven or eight young men who looked like thugs, there were also several burly men carrying sticks hiding at the stairwell.

Song's mother stood at the door of Song Mai's house with a gloomy face.

Sister-in-law Song Mai looked worried: "Mom, do you think she'll come out if we knock on the door? What if she just ignores us?"

Upon hearing this, a sinister look appeared on Song's mother's wrinkled face.

"Hmph, you brat, let's see if she dares! We've come fully prepared today. Even if that brat is pretending to be dead inside, we'll just break down the door and take her and her lover away!"

As she spoke, she looked at Liu Weiqiang beside her.

Liu Weiqiang's arm was still wrapped in bandages.

For some reason, his injuries hadn't improved since he fought that wild man and got hurt.

He even went to several reputable hospitals for this, but despite the fact that they were all minor injuries, they never fully healed.

That's why this matter has been delayed until now.

Otherwise, how could he swallow this insult?

Even though his injuries hadn't fully healed, he still came.

Originally, he just wanted to take that bastard Song Mai away, but after what happened last time, he changed his mind. He was determined to teach that pretty boy a lesson and get revenge for what happened last time!

"Weiqiang, are you confident this time?"

Song's mother asked cautiously.

Liu Weiqiang snorted coldly, a hint of ferocity appearing in his triangular eyes.

He raised his hand and pointed to the people behind him:

"Look at the men I brought this time. They're all my brothers who've been with me for years, capable of fighting and risking their lives. Every single one of them has blood on their hands. That pretty boy was taken care of by my brothers in no time. I'm just worried that if someone gets killed, it'll be hard to clean up the mess."

Upon hearing this, Sister-in-law Song Mai's face immediately turned pale, and she silently took a few steps back, distancing herself from the people Liu Weiqiang had brought.

"It's better to tone it down. Beating someone up is nothing, but if you actually kill someone, it's not worth it."

She was terrified, after all, all she wanted was the 500,000; she didn't care about anything else.

But if someone actually dies, then things will get really complicated.

At that point, it won't be a matter of whether she wants to get involved or not; the police will come knocking on her door.

Liu Weiqiang, however, dismissed it with disdain.

"So what? Did you see that pretty boy marry Song Mai? Did he have a wedding? Does he have any family or friends? He might be an orphan. What if I beat him to death? I'll just have to clean things up so no one will find out."

Song's mother was trembling with fear; she didn't want to get involved in a murder case.

“Wei, Weiqiang, you can beat him up to vent your anger, but the most important thing for us is to get a divorce. Once the divorce is finalized, Song Mai will be your wife. Think about the two of you, even if you don't think about yourself. If something really happens, how will you two live together…”

Liu Weiqiang, too lazy to listen to Song's mother's rambling, pushed her away.

"You can knock on my door, I know what I'm doing!"

Song's mother staggered a couple of times, then hurriedly knocked on the door with trembling hands.
