Chapter 7 Looking for a better opportunity while still employed

As she spoke, she glanced at Liu Weiqiang without making a sound, and lowered her voice, saying, "You still need to think of a way. If she doesn't divorce, we'll have to spend that 500,000 yuan again before we've even had a chance to enjoy it."

Song's mother was furious, her chest heaving.

"I'll think of something, what other way do I have? I've already said all this, but this brat won't listen to me at all. Am I supposed to kidnap her and force her to get a divorce?"

The thought of those 500,000 yuan made Song Mai's heart ache terribly.

If she loses 500,000 yuan, her plan to buy a house in the city will be completely ruined.

She gritted her teeth in resentment: "That money..."

"We can just pay him back!"

Hearing this, Sister-in-law Song Mai felt a pang of heartache.

"Mom, no way! Think about it, who knows what kind of guy Song Mai found? Maybe he's a penniless guy who lives off women just because he's handsome. How much money does Song Mai earn? If she uses all her money to support her gigolo, how can she take care of you and Dad? If she doesn't think about you, you should at least think about yourselves!"

"Besides, Liu Weiqiang isn't so easy to talk to. Before, when things didn't work out, I had to plead with him to agree to give me another chance, as long as Song Mai got a divorce. But now that it hasn't worked out again, I'm afraid he won't agree to return the money to settle things!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Liu Weiqiang stood up.

With his hands in his pockets, he glared fiercely at the two men.

"What do you mean? Are you messing with me?!"

Startled, Song's mother trembled and quickly explained, "We had no choice, that wretched girl Song Mai..."

However, before she could finish speaking, Liu Weiqiang picked up the ashtray on the table and threw it at Song's mother.

The ashtray grazed her earlobe and flew straight toward the window.

"Splash—"

The next second, the window glass shattered on the floor.

"Don't tell me there's nothing I can do. I'm telling you, now that I've taken the money, the person is mine. I don't care what methods you use, I have to have Song Mai! Otherwise, your whole family will never have a good life!"

Mother Song was trembling with fear, clutching Sister-in-law Song's hand tightly.

"Sister-in-law, what do you suggest we do?"

Liu Weiqiang is clearly a thug and a hooligan. Since he said that, he will probably do even worse when he acts.

Sister-in-law Song Mai hardened her heart, and her eyes turned sinister:

"Do you still remember what that wild man's name was?"

Song's mother tried hard to recall.

"It seems to be named Chu Xing."

Sister-in-law Song Mai looked at Liu Weiqiang and said:

"Could you please help me find out who this strange man is? Leave the rest to us."

"Since Song Mai won't budge, let's try to find a solution from that other man. I refuse to believe that man would rather die than divorce her for her sake."

She's determined to have that 500,000!

Song's mother nodded tremblingly: "Yes, it is a solution."

When Song Mai returned to the rented room, the lights were still off.

It's nine o'clock, and Chu Xing still hasn't returned.

She thought to herself that perhaps he was looking for a job.

She groped her way to the sofa and collapsed, feeling as if all her strength had been drained away.

At the same time, the man closed the last document on the table, leaned back in his chair, and wearily pinched the bridge of his nose.

Upon closer inspection, one can still see two dark bluish-black lines under his eyes.

The sofa was so small that he couldn't even stretch his legs out; if he turned over even slightly, he would fall to the ground.

Even if he's very tired, he can't fall asleep quickly.

He slept for less than two hours last night.

Having grown accustomed to a life of luxury, he had no desire to return to that hellish place that felt like a prison.

Chu Xing picked up his phone to send a message to Song Mai, intending to find an excuse not to go tonight, but just as he opened the chat box, he inexplicably glanced at the egg he had thrown in the trash can.

He doesn't have the habit of eating breakfast, and by the time he gets to the company, the eggs are already cold, so he just throws them away.

The hand that had been typing a line suddenly stopped.

Is she waiting for him to come back?

The man closed his eyes slightly and took a deep breath.

Fine, I'll just have to make do for one more night.

Just as he was about to change his clothes, there was a sudden knock on the office door.

"Enter."

The assistant walked in, a hint of worry on his face.

"President Chu, someone is investigating your background."

"Oh? What's your background?"

The assistant placed several documents on the man's desk.

"It's this person, Liu Weiqiang. There are also a few other people who have been in close contact with him recently. They are Ms. Song's family members. You have seen their information before."

Chu Xing raised his hand and flipped through the few pages of documents.

He didn't know the man named Liu Weiqiang, but the name sounded familiar, as if he had heard it before.

He only glanced at the information of the remaining few people.

It was Song Mai's parents and her brother and sister-in-law.

He raised his hand and threw the documents into the trash can. "Change my documents as I told you to."

"yes."

When Chu Xing pushed open the door, he had changed back into the cheap suit that Song Mai had bought for him.

Song Mai was drinking porridge, slurping it down.

Seeing him return, she looked up and asked, "Have you eaten? I'll get you a bowl too."

He stood in the entryway and changed into slippers that didn't fit properly.

"No need, I've already eaten."

Upon hearing this, Song Mai ignored him and continued slurping her porridge while looking at the news on her phone.

There was only a small dish of pickled vegetables on the table.

What a boring and dull woman, he thought to himself.

Chu Xing took a change of clothes and went into the bathroom to take a shower. When she came out, she had already finished her porridge and washed the dishes.

He finally couldn't hold back: "Aren't you going to your parents' house for dinner?"

Under the dim light, the woman's eyes were still a little red, as if she had been crying.

Song Mai turned around to get her phone, refusing to look at him.

"Well, something unexpected happened, so we didn't get to eat."

Who would have thought that what was ostensibly a meal was actually a trap set by a mother for her own child?

[It's only 500,000; for 500,000, that man can show up at her house and meet her.]

For a moment, Song Mai felt extremely sad.

Chu Xing stared at her intently.

Five hundred thousand, a man I met at home...

When these two words are put together, two characters involuntarily come to mind.

Blind date.

Is this the accident she was referring to?

Why would someone who clearly wants to get married for 500,000 yuan go on blind dates with other men?

The man's face instantly turned cold.

It seems she's nothing more than a gold digger, even going so far as to make up excuses to trick him into going to his parents' house for dinner.

"You really like money?"

Song Mai was taken aback by his sudden question, but then answered honestly.

"I don't think anyone would dislike it."

Chu Xing's eyes cooled even further: "You're willing to give up anything for money?"

Song Mai thought for a moment, "I can't say I'd give everything, but I'm at least willing to give a lot."

She loves money; her upbringing has instilled in her a deep fear of poverty.

If you tell her how to make a lot of money, she'll be willing to work any hardest, as long as it doesn't go against her principles, morality, or her own will.
