On a distant continent, there exists a legendary and prosperous empire—Karencia.
It possesses boundless territory, connecting the north and south, with a dense population, developed industry and commerce, and a prosperous national strength.
However, the emperor who led the entire empire, Saul VIII, suddenly fell ill and was bedridden.
The empire lost its leader, and its national strength gradually declined.
Meanwhile, the empire's second prince, Oweiser Thor, corrupted by the demon of greed, becomes jealous because he cannot inherit the throne.
He unleashed a large number of demons to invade the territory, openly rebelling against the country and attempting to create chaos in order to seize the throne.
Now, the capital of the Karencia Empire has fallen under the corruption of demons, and the country is engulfed in war, suffering countless lives and in utter chaos.
Will the entire kingdom be reduced to ruins? Or will a hero emerge to save the empire from its dire straits and usher in a new chapter for the Karencia Empire?
All of this is an unknown mystery; no one knows the future of this country.
No one knows what the real ending is.
Chapter One – Demon Invasion
...
If we were to insist on describing the current state of the Karencia Empire,
Eighty percent of the land has been completely invaded by demons.
These occupied areas were mainly concentrated in the four major urban districts of the east, west, south, and north, especially the civilian areas.
Today, the vast majority of civilians have perished in this chaos.
They become mindless zombies, driven by their desires and emotions from their previous lives, wandering through streets, alleys, mountains, and forests.
The failure to stop the demonic invasion in time, which led to chaos, was mainly due to the nobles' banquet.
The Duke of Riviera's daughter, Erica, had just turned eighteen, and like the previous year, she threw a grand banquet.
The Duke invited almost all the nobles in the capital.
That very night, for some unknown reason, the demon suddenly revived within the capital.
After the banquet, countless humans were infected by the demon's emotions.
Greed, rage, envy.
These three emotions, like a raging plague, completely overwhelmed the common people of the capital within hours.
The nobles might be better off, after all, they already possessed a status and wealth far exceeding that of the common people.
But there will always be nobles who are greedy and want to rise to a higher level, and there will always be nobles who are jealous of the success and happiness of others.
Overnight, a large number of commoners and most nobles who had no ability to protect themselves all became puppets controlled by the devil.
Those nobles who were not infected immediately may have been killed on the spot by the nobles under control around them or the commoners nearby.
In that short night, the nobles who had attended the birthday banquet either turned into walking corpses or...
They either have their hearts and lungs ripped out and die a gruesome death on the street.
These nobles were almost all high-ranking officials, holding various positions throughout the empire and controlling the vital nerves of the country.
They are like the gears of an empire; even if one or two occasionally malfunction, the empire can still maintain normal operation.
But what if the entire management team were to be completely paralyzed overnight?
The empire's massive machine will completely stall and become immobile.
Management was unable to communicate any information, and the lower levels lacked clear instructions, plunging the entire empire into chaos and stagnation.
With the emperor bedridden and a new emperor yet to ascend the throne, this sudden event caught the empire off guard.
Therefore, the demonic invasion is neither a huge nor a small matter.
Most importantly, the timing of these demons' appearance was too coincidental, catching the Empire completely off guard.
It just so happened that a large number of nobles had gathered, and the emperor was seriously ill and bedridden.
These demons seemed to have deliberately taken advantage of the situation.
Fortunately, after many people realized the seriousness of the current situation, the human counterattack finally began.
First, there was a group of noble mages with powerful mental strength.
Most of them maintained a calm mindset and focused on improving their knowledge, thus remaining untainted by demonic desires.
Now, they have gathered at Duke Riviera’s mansion to discuss countermeasures with the Duke, who is also untainted by desire.
"Gentlemen, our top priority is to expand our forces to the four major urban areas to find and rescue more survivors."
Levi slammed his hand on the table, leaned slightly forward, and sharply scanned the dense group of mages on both sides of the long table before issuing his command.
Now, most of the capital has fallen.
Without orders from a higher-ranking commander, Reeves was the only leader capable of directing the group.
After all, he was the empire's only duke.
and,
"My magic guild should be fine; they will assist us."
Indeed, Duke Reeves is the only person here who owns a private army.
His mages were skilled in both magic and physical training; aside from pursuing knowledge and rigorous training, they were almost entirely devoid of desire.
They never envied noble titles, nor did they care about differences in living standards between people.
Therefore, they are not easily controlled by demons.
As for the other armies,
Given the current chaotic situation, it is already quite an achievement for the military to maintain internal order.
After all, most members of the military are only slightly stronger than ordinary people, and most of them are first-tier warriors.
To build a large army of second- or third-tier warriors is far too idealistic.
No sooner had Levi finished speaking than a noble mage asked:
"Shouldn't we go to the palace first to rescue His Majesty and the princes?"
Upon hearing this question, Levi scrutinized the mage who had raised it.
This monk, even in this critical moment, still cared about the palace and the prince; he was indeed a loyal nobleman.
However, Reeves shook his head, gently dismissing the nobleman's concerns, and explained:
