Victor sat in the carriage waiting for the servant's message, but he could hear Vega's low, chattering voice in his ears.
"Are you interested in that extinct volcano?"
The one-eyed crow was preening its shiny feathers; perhaps it was too fat, for its beak could no longer reach behind it.
Victor glanced at Vega.
How did you find out?
Vega raised his head and said confidently.
"Otherwise, you wouldn't have come looking for this fiancée."
Viktor ignored him, which was taken as tacit agreement.
Not long after, Victor still had patience, but Vega couldn't hold back any longer.
"Why hasn't anyone come to call us in yet?"
The rustling sound of turning pages stopped, and Victor closed the magic book, saying calmly.
"Imagine you are a very beautiful woman, alone at home, and someone wants to see you late at night. This person is your fiancé. What would you do?"
Vega tilted his head and thought for a while, then said hoarsely, "Dress up beautifully and meet you in the most exquisite way?"
"I understand, she put on makeup especially because she saw you coming! And you were very patient while waiting for her."
"Wrong, she'll just think that kind of person is sick and that it annoys her."
Victor dismissed it expressionlessly, but the crow was clearly unconvinced.
"Why? That's how it's written in those novels and stories. Do you not understand women?"
"You just don't understand Gwen."
Viktor turned his head and looked at the gate of the Delin family's courtyard.
This holy knight has never considered himself a 'woman'.
Well, actually, Viktor himself doesn't quite understand Gwen now either.
However, he believes that Gwen must have disliked him during this period.
After all, no woman likes a man who always has a sour face, is petty, and even does bad things.
The fact that they were engaged will likely remain a stain on Grand Knight Gwen's life until the very end.
Therefore, she never married after Viktor's death.
"Get ready, we should go in."
He looked down and reminded the crow on his shoulder, and the crow quickly straightened up, adopting a "I'm just a pet" attitude, and lazily stood on his shoulder without moving.
After a while, the maid came to the carriage and respectfully told him that Miss Gwen was ready and invited him in.
Victor alighted from the carriage and, led by a maid, passed through the gate and was taken to the meeting hall.
As soon as he entered, he saw Gwen.
The other person sat on a soft sofa, without any makeup, wrapped in a full-body bathrobe, not revealing a single inch of skin.
She looked like she had just come out of the shower.
However, she didn't need to dress up. In Victor's opinion, even without makeup, her exquisite and perfect face was enough to captivate any man.
What are you doing here so late?
Gwen's tone was neither warm nor cold, and carried a hint of detachment.
Viktor sat down opposite her without any hesitation, speaking in the same calm tone, getting straight to the point.
"I heard you're going on a mission and won't be back for half a month."
Gwen wasn't curious about where he'd heard it from, and simply nodded honestly.
"Yes, we'll leave in a week."
"Can I come with you?"
Gwen: "..."
Upon hearing this, her reaction was somewhat... subtle.
At first, he seemed a little doubtful, and then he frowned, as if repeatedly confirming something.
Finally, she leaned back, an expression of disbelief gradually appearing on her face.
Gwen reached up to rub her forehead, lowered her head, and asked again.
"Repeat what you just said."
"Can I come with you?"
Without the slightest hesitation, Viktor repeated it.
"call……"
Gwen let out a soft breath; she had a feeling the other person had damaged their brain.
"What's the reason?"
"I can't bring you along without a good reason."
Victor: "I know the terrain of the surrounding mountains very well, including the weaknesses of the monsters scattered around. If you take me with you, including the round trip, you will only need seven days to return."
Hearing his words, Gwen didn't even look up, it was unclear whether she was considering Viktor's value or simply didn't care.
Viktor wanted to say something to elevate his value in Gwen's eyes, but Gwen preemptively shut him up.
"What I want is the truth."
Viktor's eyes turned cold as he looked at Gwen and slowly said, "...You used your power on me."
As a knight born with a sense of justice, Gwendolyn displayed his unique talent from a young age.
She has a heart of justice.
If she wanted to, she could clearly tell whether the other person was lying or not.
Gwen can control this ability freely, so she won't use it unless necessary.
However, she did not believe in herself.
Viktor wasn't particularly angry; in fact, he felt somewhat expected it.
This indirectly proves just how much Gwen hates him.
When talking to him, Gwen would even use her sense of justice to judge whether he was lying.
"I don't trust you."
Gwen was very straightforward and offered no further explanation.
Suddenly, Viktor smiled with relief.
He thought for a moment, then said again:
“There is a monster on Mount Vesuvius that produces a unique crystal. I need that to make magical items.”
Having said that, a powerful desire shone in Viktor's eyes.
