"Why?"
Gwen opened her mouth, but all the words she wanted to say got stuck in her throat and she couldn't utter them.
Any words seem pale and powerless in this scene.
Since the beginning of demons throughout history, including the Demon of Greed that last appeared in the capital.
In every instance, humanity has always been the one suffering the greatest casualties.
They are the very source of fear for humankind.
but……
How can this scene be explained?
"You're right, demons and humans really can't coexist."
"But they have always been around us."
Victor's voice kept echoing in her ears.
"Pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, lust. Seven emotions, corresponding to all the sources of evil. Doesn't that seem strange?"
"Because these seven emotions are almost exclusively possessed by humans, creatures rich in emotions."
Suddenly, Viktor chuckled softly.
"The demon before you is the embodiment of rage."
"Guess why it appeared?"
Gwen's eyes widened suddenly. She stared blankly at the demon in front of her, at its battle, and at the mages who were clapping and cheering.
A tremor of fear welled up in her heart.
"Because of...the Delin family?"
As if realizing something, Gwen's voice trembled slightly.
"Because of the anger in their hearts."
Viktor placed his hand on her head, as if to comfort her, his tone carrying a hint of satisfaction.
"Don't worry about it. Although you share the same surname, Delin, what this family has done has nothing to do with you."
“I know you are fully aware of Angus’s grave sins.”
A red array instantly lit up behind Viktor, without any patterns or runes, just simple flames burning around the two of them.
Under the blood moon, the warm light seemed somewhat out of place.
But the flames did warm her up a bit, at least allowing her to calm down.
But Viktor continued talking.
"Their anger became food for the demons, and so the demons appeared and helped them."
Similarly,
Viktor's voice turned colder.
"Their presence does not bring any benefit to Angus."
"Thus, the steel fortresses of the north kept them out."
Who is the real devil? Who is the righteous one?
Gwen closed her eyes, feeling as if the knightly faith she had always believed in was crumbling.
As a knight, one should guard one's territory.
But the real scene was unfolding right before her eyes.
The answer to the persistent casualty figures in the North can be found here.
Angus has always cultivated an image of fairness and justice for himself.
Even now, countless knights still admire him because of his influence and his "justice".
The Northerners living within the northern fortresses were always grateful to this "hero".
Within the fortress, they diligently wove their own code of justice.
But this caused everyone to overlook the people further north, beyond the northern border.
They are human beings too, fellow citizens of the Empire.
Unfortunately, information was blocked within the fortress, and everyone was praising Angus.
Praise this righteous knight.
Finally, Viktor stepped forward.
He completely tore apart his hypocritical sense of justice and the ugly face of the Delin family from beginning to end.
It was deliberately placed in front of her.
"Look, Gwen."
"Watch this most real scene unfolding before your eyes."
Gwen's lips were somewhat pale.
The battle is not over yet.
The enormous demon seized the head of the fire giant that was rolling around on the snowfield and lifted it up.
He slammed it into the ground, punching its mangled head repeatedly.
Its resistance gradually ceased, and the flames on its body gradually died down.
But the evil continues.
In Victor's eyes, the fire giant's health bar was about to reach zero.
Countless mages and sorcerers even unleashed various explosive spells in the sky above as a celebration, their excited shouts rising in waves.
"OK!"
"Keep going! Keep going!"
"Don't stop!"
"Ooh ooh ooh!"
They continued to vent their anger, which caused the red light emanating from Wrightton to grow stronger in waves.
Until the gloomy sky was completely illuminated.
The frost giants, naturally, could not escape their fate either.
Wrightton grabbed a sharp piece of ice and plunged it fiercely into the snowfield.
It grabbed the head of the ice giant, which was covered with layers of ice and stone, and slammed it down hard onto the sharp ice.
They were determined to test whether the giant's head was stronger or the ice was superior.
As blood splattered everywhere, the demon grew increasingly ferocious, swinging its arms faster and faster.
Finally, the health bars of both giants were completely empty.
Their bodies transformed into natural energy, gradually dissipating amidst the raging winds and snow.
The demon spat out the blood from its massive mouth.
A long, resounding roar echoed across the entire far north, accompanied by a thunderous cheer from the crowd.
"They had also placed their hopes on the knights of the North."
"But my hopes never received a response."
Viktor looked ahead with satisfaction, watching Lightton display his power, and the mages and sorcerers who were cheering and expressing their excitement.
"Did you see that?"
"Those self-proclaimed knights of justice are not as good as one."
"demon."
Gwen lowered her eyes and bit her lip.
A strange light seemed to flash across his eyes, and his heart remained unsettled for a long time.
As a knight, I see demons helping humanity while the knights who protect the northern frontier hide in the shadows, afraid to show themselves.
This directly addresses the facts stated by Viktor.
When the bloody reality was laid bare before her, the inexplicable sense of justice she held in her heart seemed to be collapsing.
At this moment, even she herself didn't know what the belief she had once held onto was anymore.
"I……"
Suddenly, a finger was placed on her lips, rendering her speechless.
Victor rested his chin on Gwen's shoulder, his voice soft, his breath tickling her ear.
"Shh-"
This incredibly intimate gesture sent a shiver down Gwen's spine.
Similarly, that voice that only Gwen could hear rang in her ears.
"I said it."
"Just trust me, that's all."
