"I don't know, do you know?"
"I don't know either, I've never even heard of it."
The monks looked at each other, stunned and unsure of what to say.
Duke Reeves listened to Gwen's account and fell into deep thought, just like the other mages, he didn't know how it happened.
Gwen then remembered something and said:
“This time we applied for a monk to accompany us. He went to the mountaintop before us, saying he was going to investigate something, but he disappeared and we still don’t know where he is.”
"What?"
They were all stunned, because such words were too easy to arouse suspicion.
Erica was taken aback upon hearing this, as if realizing something, and for the first time, she took the initiative to ask:
Who is that mage?
Gwen looked at him questioningly and answered:
"You all should recognize him; he is Victor Clevina."
The moment this name was mentioned, it caused a huge uproar among the mages.
Several mages who hated Victor seized this opportunity and spoke righteously there:
"It must have been Viktor who did it!"
"Exactly! He's done other bad things before, this must be his doing too!"
Everyone present knew of Viktor's 'notorious' reputation; given the chance to slander someone, they would not hold back.
Duke Reeves was also bewildered, but he still tried to persuade the other mages:
"Everyone, please don't panic. The most important thing right now is to prevent a volcanic eruption and minimize any potential damage!"
Upon hearing the Duke's words, the mages all stopped arguing.
As Levi said, at this point, finding the mastermind is no longer important.
The most important thing is to get through the current difficulties first.
"Awooo!!!"
As they were speaking, a roar suddenly came from above the volcano.
Now everyone could hear it clearly.
The monks all looked towards the summit of the volcano, remaining silent and unable to utter a single word.
Was that sound a living being?
"Madam! You cannot go over there!"
The voices of the surrounding knights attracted the attention of many people, and everyone looked in that direction.
She was an old woman who was trying to break through the knights' blockade and enter the stronghold.
"Someone has angered the volcano god! Someone must have angered the volcano god!"
She shouted from across the guarding knights:
"It's all over! We're all finished!"
The mages looked at each other in bewilderment. Duke Reeves waved his hand and addressed the knight.
"Let her in."
"yes!"
The knight stopped blocking him, and the old man quickly broke free of the knight's grasp, hobbling over with his cane.
"Grandma, what is a volcano god?"
Duke Reeves asked her kindly, but the surrounding monks, seeing the old woman's recent erratic behavior, began to chatter amongst themselves:
"What can you possibly get out of this old woman who's acting so crazy?"
"What volcano god? I've never even heard of it."
"I'm afraid she's here to disrupt order, Duke Reeves. You'd better get rid of her quickly."
Duke Riviera ignored the mages' advice and looked kindly at the old man, asking him a question.
"Mother-in-law, if there's anything you want to say, please feel free to tell me."
The old lady looked the Duke up and down, her previous madness vanished, and she began to speak mysteriously:
"Hundreds of years ago, someone sealed a fiery demon under the volcano. That sealing angered the volcano god, causing the volcano here to erupt."
"But after that eruption, the volcano remained completely inactive for hundreds of years."
"Now that the volcano has caused unusual activity again, it must be that the sleeping volcano god has become angry again. It is about to break the seal and burn the sky and the earth to ashes."
The many monks present were stunned and quickly stepped forward to speak.
"Duke, don't worry about it, it's just some folk myths."
Duke Reeves's expression was extremely solemn.
He sensed a familiar feeling in this story.
At that moment, Erica glanced at the mountaintop.
She touched her chest, as if deep in thought, then turned to Duke Reeves and spoke.
"Father, I want to go to the top of the mountain to take a look."
“I felt it… something on the mountaintop.”
"no!"
Upon hearing Erica's request, the Duke waved his hand and shouted in a very firm tone:
"Erica, I can promise you many things, but this is non-negotiable!"
Erica refused to give up and continued to beg her father for permission: "Father! I am now a second-tier mage and have the ability to stand on my own."
"Unless you are stronger than me, I will absolutely not allow you to set foot on the crater!"
Seeing Duke Reeves's reaction, Erica could only remain silent.
This is completely unreasonable.
Her father had been immersed in the realm of a third-tier mage for over thirty years.
Everyone says that if a new fourth-tier holy mage were to emerge, that person would undoubtedly be Rivi du Chloe.
Erica thought to herself that she couldn't even surpass Victor, so how could she possibly skip two classes and reach the fourth class directly?
But......
Erica felt a tightness in her chest.
She heard a voice amidst that angry roar.
There's a sound saying, "It hurts so much."
Meanwhile, Duke Rivi had already begun issuing orders to the mage ranks.
