Viktor and Aurelion's gazes both turned to Erica.
The atmosphere gradually fell silent.
Erica felt a little shy being stared at by both of them at the same time, but her gaze remained firm.
Viktor was silent for a moment, then said:
“Erica, you were originally my student.”
That's not what I meant!
Erica said somewhat anxiously.
"I will learn the easy-to-understand knowledge taught in college sooner or later."
This wasn't Erica boasting; throughout the entire Royal Academy, even among students in higher grades than Erica, most were only first-tier mages, with second-tier mages being rare.
Erica had only been enrolled for a year when she reached the second level.
The academy couldn't teach her anything anymore, otherwise Erica wouldn't have sought out Victor for extra lessons every evening after class.
Her talent is undeniable.
But no matter how talented she was, these life-or-death situations made her understand a very important truth.
No matter how much simulation training there is, how much knowledge there is, or how much magic one can control.
Even academically trained mages are destined to be no match for those who have experienced countless battles.
Erica felt a wave of fear whenever she thought about the several times she had almost died.
She is still too weak.
Viktor stood up and looked down into her eyes.
Seemingly intimidated by Viktor's subtle aloofness, Erica took a small step back, but still met Viktor's gaze without flinching.
She wants to become stronger!
but……
"I will not accept you as my apprentice."
Victor refused Erica's request.
His swift decision startled Erica, sending a chill down her spine.
For some reason, a feeling of grievance welled up in my heart.
But she didn't show it. Even though a few tears were welling up in the corners of her eyes, she was still defiant, raising her head and looking stubbornly at Viktor.
"Why."
Even if she was rejected, Erica wanted a reason.
At the very least, she should understand her own shortcomings.
"Viktor said calmly."
"Always remember, you are the Duke's only heir..."
"Then I'll go and persuade him!"
Erica's tone was filled with unquestionable confidence.
“I’m sure I can convince my father, I promise.”
Viktor narrowed his eyes and let out a soft chuckle through his nose.
"Is that so?"
"Well then, we'll talk about the rest later."
Suddenly, flames burst forth from his body, as if setting off half the night sky.
He turned around, looked at the somewhat dazed princess, and bowed slightly.
"I have some things to attend to, so I'll be leaving early."
"Have fun, Your Highness."
As he spoke, his body gradually solidified, turning into a statue made of ashes.
The powerful wind was like a sharp blade, peeling away his body piece by piece until he completely dissipated into the air and was carried away by the wind.
He vanished into the banquet hall, leaving only ashes.
Erica stood there, slightly stunned.
Did Victor agree?
She wasn't sure, but at least she had a goal.
Persuade your father!
But just then, the princess's delicate voice rang out:
“I know you. You are Erica, Erica du Chloe.”
Erica snapped out of her reverie and looked at the princess, only then realizing that she hadn't greeted Her Highness yet.
In aristocratic etiquette, this would undoubtedly be considered somewhat offensive.
Just as she was about to bow, she saw the princess staring intently at her.
It seems they weren't very friendly to her.
"Everyone outside says you are the youngest genius in the capital."
Indeed, there are not many people who can become a second-tier mage at the age of seventeen.
Erica's genius is already extremely rare.
"Your Highness, you..."
Erica was just about to offer some flattering words to the princess she had barely met when she heard her suddenly say:
"Are you trying to steal my teacher?"
Erica was taken aback, but then she heard Aurelion say in an unfriendly tone:
"I won't let you succeed; you can't take him away."
"Under his guidance, I will become even more talented than you, and let others know who his best student is."
Aurelion said no more, stood up gracefully, turned and left.
They didn't even give Erica a chance to speak.
Erica watched the other person gradually leave, unable to utter a single word.
...
Suddenly, sparks flew in the air outside the palace.
Sizzle—Sizzle—
Soon, the sparks turned into a full-blown flame.
Several flames suddenly ignited and intertwined, gradually revealing the shape of Victor.
With a wave of his hand, Victor transformed the flames into a black trench coat that he draped over his shoulders.
Vega stood on the pole, flapped his wings, and flew to Victor's shoulder.
"You're so slow! Has something interesting happened at the palace?"
"The emperor asked me to be the princess's teacher, and I agreed."
Vega showed a curious expression and raised an eyebrow.
"You got a job through connections?"
Victor ignored it, but the crow started complaining.
"You'll still have to rely on me then, so I think your college should give me a title too."
"Hmm... let's call him the great—Professor Vega!"
A blue teleportation circle lit up beneath Victor's feet, and the man and the raven vanished into the night.
