In the dimly lit basement corridor, Vega stared wide-eyed at the distinctive single eye on his forehead, looking around in surprise.
With each step Viktor took deeper into the area, candlelight gradually illuminated the dark staircase on one side as he walked.
The faint candlelight flickered in the vast and deep darkness, dimly illuminating the stone walls on both sides of the basement.
Even the well-informed Vega never expected that such a mysterious place was hidden beneath the throne in the palace.
Could it be that one of the emperors dug his own grave?
Viktor seemed to notice Vega's confusion and explained:
"Strictly speaking, this should be the location known as the 'Royal Mausoleum'."
"But unfortunately, there were no corpses of emperors from past dynasties inside."
Upon hearing Viktor's explanation, Vega's expression became quite strange.
No, what's there to regret?
Do you really intend to dig up these emperors' corpses and use them?
But more than that, it was curious how Victor knew about such a hidden place.
Vega felt that compared to this evil god who had existed for countless years, it was nothing.
Viktor seems to be the old man who has lived for who knows how long.
It seems there's nothing in this world he doesn't know.
And it had this question a long time ago.
Victor's answer to his question was quite simple.
"We've dug this before."
Vega's expression became even stranger.
After holding it in for a long time, it finally uttered a sentence.
“Victor, it’s a good thing you ended up becoming a mage.”
"Otherwise, I really don't know what else you can contribute to the empire."
That explains why Victor fears the goddess of justice.
How could someone who feels no remorse for digging up graves not feel guilty when faced with the goddess of justice?
You are more like an evil god than I am.
But Viktor remained expressionless and showed no reaction.
It was as if he had only recounted something trivial.
As he slowly walked deeper, he eventually reached the deepest part of the basement.
"We've arrived."
In the dim candlelight, a tightly closed stone door appeared before them.
The moment Victor stepped into the door, the previously closed stone door opened automatically, revealing a path to a deeper interior.
Seeing the scene before him, Vega was even more puzzled.
What exactly is the principle behind this?
Looking at the open doorway before him, Victor explained again:
"Normally, only members of the royal family are allowed to enter this place."
Vega frowned and glanced at Viktor.
Victor doesn't seem to be a member of the royal family either.
Could he be Aubrey's illegitimate son?
Damn, no wonder the old emperor doted on Victor so much, now I understand!
"Because Queen Aurelion has decided that I am her consort, I have agreed to marry her."
Vega: "..."
You know what, even though the empress and the emperor are not related by blood, does that mean the empress is not a member of the royal family?
Obviously not.
This door is only for those with royal status, not those with royal blood.
From an objective standpoint, Queen Aurelion had already taken Victor as her own, and therefore he was also considered a member of the royal family.
Can you enter the royal tomb by agreeing to marry the Queen?
Damn it, where did he get this strategy guide from?
Victor did not answer.
In fact, even he himself wasn't sure if doing so would actually get him in.
After all, in the game, no player can become a member of the royal family, nor can they marry the queen.
He had been here before when he came to the palace to rob tombs.
The fact that the door couldn't be opened actually showed Viktor how to open it:
[Only members of the royal family are allowed to pass]
However, even if he couldn't open it, it wouldn't be a problem for Viktor.
As the saying goes, there were originally no roads in this world.
When you walk on it a lot, it becomes a road.
That was the most dangerous tomb raiding he had ever experienced; during the retreat, he was almost hunted down by the entire imperial army.
Even Queen Aurelian's favor towards him plummeted to its lowest point.
Although the imperial tombs are heavily guarded, there is actually not much worth seeing inside.
Then, Victor slowly walked into the open path.
What came into his view were eight enormous statues lined up in the depths of the basement.
From left to right, each statue is inscribed with the names "Saul I" to "Saul VIII" below it.
The names of each emperor are engraved on the base.
As Victor walked past each statue, his gaze slowly swept over the base.
It seemed that whenever he passed a statue, he could feel the magnificence and sublimity of that emperor in his lifetime.
Victor finally reached the end, his gaze fixed on the plaque bearing the name "Saul VIII".
The name of Aubrey Saul is engraved on it.
On the base of the statue is his incomparably majestic and tall figure.
His well-defined muscles stood there, exuding an unshakeable power.
Even through this hard stone sculpture, one can still feel the emperor's profound yet sharp aura.
This was an emperor who remained highly influential even after his death.
He was also one of the emperors that Victor was most familiar with.
Victor continued:
“The bodies of each emperor were not preserved after their death.”
"Because strictly speaking, apart from lifespan, they are not mortals."
The reason why the empire forbids the belief in gods is because, in reality, the empire's "emperor" is already equivalent to a god.
