Chapter 817 Don't Let My God Down

It seemed that every deity present longed to go home.

That should be true, since Viktor had overheard them mentioning it before.

Their purpose in returning from the heavens was to 'go home'.

"Then tell me, where exactly is your 'home'?"

But unlike before, the moment he asked his question, all the gods present were stunned for a moment.

After thinking it over carefully, they were all completely bewildered.

Even Athena, the goddess of wisdom, was the same.

It seemed that they had all fallen into a state of amnesia and did not know how to answer for a moment.

After a long silence, Athena finally managed to utter a single sentence with difficulty.

"I...I don't know."

Judging from her somewhat dazed appearance, it certainly doesn't seem like she's pretending.

Victor frowned, signaling her to continue.

“I… I should have an impression of ‘home’ in my memory.”

"but……"

At this point, Athena's eyes widened.

Her eyes were filled with doubt and confusion; she stood there, stunned, her gaze fixed on the spot.

He muttered to himself silently for a long time, like a puppet, and finally said helplessly:

"I...I am, Athena?"

"That's enough, we'll discuss this later."

Viktor promptly ended the conversation, preventing the goddess of wisdom from delving deeper into thought and restoring some of her rationality.

Her eyes gradually cleared, but the confusion still lingered.

Viktor narrowed his eyes, lost in thought.

It seems that these gods lost their memories after entering this world?

But what does the phrase "I am Athena" mean?

Viktor lowered his gaze, his deep obsidian eyes flashing with a sharp glint.

For some reason, he felt that Athena's situation was strangely similar to his own.

It's like there are some things I can't remember.

For example, he couldn't remember his own name, only that he was 'Victor'.

As expected, Chaos's mission was not so easy to complete.

In order not to ruin this tool, Victor thought for a moment and finally spoke again:

"Let's change the subject. How are you planning to get home?"

Upon hearing this, Athena snapped out of her confusion; clearly, she knew the answer to the question.

Almost without hesitation, Athena answered directly:

"Our initial goal was to conquer the Karencia Empire."

"Because that is where our gods first appeared."

Viktor nodded in understanding.

This statement aligns with the game's storyline.

In the game's storyline, their first act upon returning to the human world is to attack the Karencia Empire.

Ultimately, this led to the destruction of Aurelion, the last empress of the Karencia Empire, along with the gods.

"So, as long as you have the opportunity to enter the 'Land of First Birth,' you can go home?"

Athena nodded somewhat uncertainly, but then shook her head and said:

"To be honest, this is just a guess."

"But we have no better choice than this."

After she finished speaking, she suddenly realized that she might have said something wrong.

Because she saw Victor's expression turn gloomy, even carrying a strong sense of indifference.

But Athena didn't understand what she had said wrong.

Viktor quickly provided her with an answer.

"Is this your reason for going to any lengths, even risking war and plunging the entire world into conflict?"

"Just for a guess, for a possible option?"

Victor's gaze swept over the gods present.

Under his sharp and indifferent gaze, everyone shrank back in fear, not daring to utter a sound.

"As expected, you deserve to die."

Hearing this, Athena frowned.

"What do you mean? We're going to die?"

"How is this possible...? We are gods..."

Her words suddenly stopped abruptly, a startling thought causing the words she was about to utter to catch in her throat.

Gods are indeed immortal, and even if they face death, they can be resurrected, but that only applies to those who are gods.

However, now, they have been trapped in human bodies by some unknown means imposed upon them by this human.

Victor chuckled softly, his gaze sweeping over each god before he spoke:

"You must have been thinking so high and mighty, that even if it caused a war, so what? In the end, it would only be humans who would die."

"After all, you are noble gods."

Every word he said, even every single syllable, struck their fragile self-esteem like a hammer blow.

A sharp pain and shame permeated the hearts of these deities, leaving them feeling utterly powerless, their bodies involuntarily hunching over.

Especially Athena.

She gritted her teeth and stubbornly said:

"I...I didn't..."

Victor turned his head and fixed his gaze on Athena again.

Indeed, Athena has always been friendly to humans, but...

"Dare you say you don't consider yourself superior to humans?"

"I……"

Athena wanted to refute, but her pale face betrayed her true thoughts.

Although she treated humans well, it wasn't true equality.

Humans treat pets well, but that's only on the premise that the pets are obedient.

Humans can be more ruthless than any other creature if their cats or dogs misbehave and bite back.
