Gwen stood silently in the hallway, gazing at the closed study door from afar, her brow furrowed and her face filled with worry.
After a long while, she pursed her lips, turned around, and walked downstairs.
She held onto the handrail beside her with one hand as she stepped down the stairs, her body swaying unsteadily.
On the spacious sofa in the living room sat a woman with short, jet-black hair.
She was dressed in light, casual clothes, holding a plate in one hand and a cup in the other, sipping her coffee.
Hearing the creaking of the stairs behind her, Lia turned around and her gaze fell on Gwen, who was swaying as she descended the stairs.
Seeing this, Lia quickly stood up and asked in a slightly anxious tone:
"So, has he come out yet?"
After a long pause, Gwen shook her head.
Viktor has locked himself in his study for three days and three nights.
During this time, neither the servants nor Gwen dared to disturb him in the study because of his strict warning.
No one knows what he does in his study.
Seeing Gwen's utterly lost expression, Leah sighed deeply and said in a comforting tone:
“It’s alright, Gwen. He’ll be fine. He’s Victor, after all.”
"Maybe he suddenly had an epiphany and wants to spend more time reading in the study, looking for inspiration?"
Viktor hasn't disappeared or met with any mishap, so what's the panic?
Even though they've been married for a long time, Gwen is still so worried.
While comforting Gwen, Leah selectively ignored the scene of rushing back to the capital from Braxton after receiving Gwen's message that "Victor is in trouble."
“But…Victor has never locked himself up like this before.”
Gwen's voice was still filled with immense worry.
She slowly raised her head, looking directly into Leah's eyes.
"Everything was normal that morning, and he even gave me a sweet kiss."
"But when I came back that night, I heard from the servants that he had locked himself in his study and had been strictly forbidden from being disturbed."
"He hasn't slept with me for three days."
Gwen didn't notice that when she said those words, Leah's expression darkened.
It seems she doesn't really like hearing this kind of topic.
"Alright, put your lovey-dovey stuff aside for now."
"Like I said, even if he doesn't come out now, what can you do?"
Gwen shook her head and murmured:
"I...I don't know."
“I don’t know what happened to Viktor, but I really want to help him.”
"I wanted to tell him that if there were any difficulties, I was willing to face them with him... but..."
Lia calmly looked at the flustered Gwen, then sat down again and sighed helplessly.
Then, she gracefully crossed one of her flawless, white legs.
He rested his elbows on the armrests of the sofa, propped his face up with his fists, and adopted a nonchalant attitude.
"But he's staying in his study and won't come out, and he's even warned you not to disturb him, right?"
Upon hearing this, Gwen nodded.
However, Lia witnessed this scene, which made her expression even more sullen and displeased.
"So what? What kind of spell did Viktor cast on you to make you like this?"
"Is it because you're too happy now, Gwen? I don't remember the knight commander I knew being such a timid and indecisive wife?"
Upon hearing this, Gwen paused, looking at Leah who was speaking with a hint of anger in her voice. She opened her mouth, but...
"But, but..."
"Are you afraid he'll get angry? Don't be ridiculous, when did you start being afraid of that?"
Looking at Gwen, who was struggling and hesitating in front of her, Lia rubbed her forehead and sighed with a hint of disappointment.
She could clearly see Gwen's condition.
She loved Victor deeply, a love that was profound and intense.
Even if Viktor only stayed in his study for three days without coming out, Gwen would panic and worry that something bad had happened to him.
She was afraid Viktor would get hurt, afraid he would feel uncomfortable.
But she was even more afraid that her interruption would make Victor angry.
This is why, during their four years of marriage, Gwen did her best to play the role of an ideal wife.
She loved Victor so much.
Yes, Victor also deeply loves his wife, and Lydia can see that.
One could even say that every time I come to this house and see Victor and Gwen's loving scenes,
She might even feel jealous.
One of them is her brother, and the other is her best friend. Leah shouldn't have these feelings.
Their shared happiness should be the most beautiful gift for Lia.
However, it was precisely because of their excessive affection for each other that the marriage appeared somewhat unequal.
Gwen always felt that she was the weaker party in the marriage.
There was nothing she could do about it; Gwen had had this thought before they got married.
She felt she could not give Viktor the same happiness he had given her.
Having been raised with the teachings of knights, Gwen's strong sense of justice led her to believe that the marriage was unequal.
Even though she loved Victor deeply, she had considered giving up the engagement.
However, they eventually got together.
Therefore, in Gwen's eyes, she had to give more in this unequal marriage.
