Chapter 46 Superior Gnoll

Two hours later, the jackals of the 8th squad had rested and replaced Jiang Hao's 13th squad.

Sitting not far from the cave exit, watching the busy gnoll army in the valley, Jiang Hao rested with his teammates while listening to the gnolls talking beside him.

"Hey, hey, hey, have you heard? We're going to find a priceless treasure for our emperor."

"Shh~"

The other gnoll quickly made a shushing gesture.

Surprisingly, gnolls and humans use the same hand gesture: putting their index finger to their lips and blowing air. If it weren't for those furry wolf paws, Jiang Hao would have almost thought he had encountered a human.

And what is this "our emperor"?

The Gnolls have human rights offices and courts, so why is there an extra emperor?

Jiang Hao was completely confused. What exactly was the jackal people's political system?

"This is not something we should be discussing. I just want to finish this job quickly and go home to hug my wife."

The jackals around him chuckled quietly.

"The commander is really generous this time. The mission allowance he gave me is equivalent to a month's salary for one day. I'll definitely have to go to Realm 38 and have some fun again."

The gnoll next to him chuckled softly again.

"Don't you know? My superior told me that we were teleported to more than 12,000 realms this time."

He said it even softer.

"Damn, it's so far! No wonder the subsidy is so high!"

"You think it's just far away? This realm seems to be uncivilized..."

After these words were spoken, all the gnolls were visibly startled and fell silent.

This was the second time Jiang Hao had heard the term "uncivilized," and seeing the reactions of the jackals around him, he became even more curious about its meaning.

"I don't care, I'm just a soldier following orders. I don't know anything else."

One of the gnolls broke the long silence, and the other gnolls began to discuss it enthusiastically again.

One of the gnolls shouted.

"That's right, that's right. Now that I've made some money, I'm planning to rent a storefront in the 5th Realm and open a boutique pastry shop that specializes in selling the offal of the Jumping Sheep from the 1358th Realm."

After he finished speaking, all the jackals looked at him.

"The offal of the jumping sheep, oh my god, that was the best thing I've ever eaten!"

"Yes, yes, I'm sure you'll make a fortune!"

"But young man, this amount of money isn't enough to rent a storefront in the Fifth Realm. After all, that's the realm where the esteemed Emperor resides!"

“I know, it’s not just about that. My dad runs a boutique like this in the 16th Realm, and he’s made a lot of money over the years. Plus what I earned during my military service these past two years, I believe that should be enough to cover six months’ rent.”

"Perhaps our emperor would also like the exquisite jumping sheep offal pastries made by your father."

The middle-aged jackal next to him spoke sincerely, and the other jackals looked at the young man with envy, as if they were looking at a future tycoon.

Another gnoll changed the subject, but it was still about how to spend money. Some said they had made money on this trip and planned to go back to their hometown to get married; others said they wanted to hire the blacksmith from the 12th Realm to forge a silver-grade weapon for them.

"Hey, hey, hey, have you heard? One of our soldiers has gone missing."

"Really? What's going on?"

"The reason is unclear, but they just suddenly disappeared, without a trace, neither alive nor dead."

"Wow, wouldn't his family become rich overnight after receiving the compensation?"

"If you're willing to share some with me, I can send you down this path too."

All the gnolls chuckled softly again.

As Jiang Hao listened, he gradually drifted into reverie.

Even though he knew it was all just a script created by the game, all fake, he still couldn't suppress his curiosity. What kind of world was the land of the gnolls?

They have their own emperor, and they have the utmost respect for him.

They have their own courts and their own comprehensive laws.

They have their own military council and a sufficiently powerful military force.

Their relationship with the surrounding realms is close enough that their people can freely travel between at least the 5th realm and the 38th realm.

They have their own human rights organizations, which means that their economy has developed to a certain level and they have begun to pay attention to people's production and life. Perhaps their people's lives are much richer than Jiang Hao imagined.

Their soldiers, on the other hand, receive significantly better treatment than ordinary civilians.

A commotion arose in the distance, disrupting Jiang Hao's reverie. Jiang Hao looked up and saw at the entrance of the mountain pass, a gnoll wearing gray armor and covered in dirt was grabbing the helmet of another gnoll and slapping the gnoll's face repeatedly.

What puzzled Jiang Hao was that the jackal who was being beaten was tall and sturdy, wearing a suit of silver-white armor and holding a large sword. He simply stood there quietly, as if he wasn't being beaten, but rather standing guard.

Jiang Hao found his attire familiar and couldn't resist using a detection spell on him. He was shocked to discover that the gnoll being attacked was none other than Dus, the Silver-ranked boss of the penultimate stage of the Howling Shadows, the envoy of Arda, and Commander Dus! Same rank, same description, same skills. Although his stats were slightly weaker, which piqued Jiang Hao's curiosity, Jiang Hao was certain that he was indeed Dus.

He remained standing silently, just as aloof as he had been in the Shadow of Wailing dungeon. Even though the Black Iron-ranked gnoll was relentlessly slapping him across the face.

Jiang Hao found this scene very strange, so he stood up with one of his teammates and walked over there.

A group of onlookers had already gathered around the two gnolls, and Jiang Hao squeezed out a spot and stood at the very front.

"Someone from a realm with over 10,000 domains dares to block my way? Bah!"

The gnoll who had attacked seemed to have gotten tired and spat in Duss's face.

Duss stared straight ahead without blinking.

"Don't think you can criticize me just because you look like me."

Dus finally glanced at him.

The gnoll who made the move extended its left paw and patted Duss's cheek on the side where he wasn't spitting.

"What? You're not convinced? Blame it on your bad birth, being born in this nearby region. If it weren't for the fact that you're from the same clan, I would have already chopped you down with one blow!"

Duss looked ahead again, his eyes slightly red, but it vanished in a flash when Jiang Hao noticed.

The gnoll had tried to fight and curse, but his opponent was a tight-lipped fellow, leaving him with no amusement. So he dusted himself off and went about his business. The gnolls surrounding him scattered, leaving only Commander Duss standing there.

He remained standing quietly, still with an aloof demeanor. If it weren't for the anger in his eyes, Jiang Hao would have almost thought he was a lifelike robot.

Jiang Hao sat back down in his original spot and heard a soft sigh.

"The creatures of the High Realm are not even as good as dogs."
