Chapter 298 The King of the Underworld

Yun Xinghe once said that 200 years ago, the five races and the Skeleton Legion had a great battle.

After that battle, the Skeleton Legion was sealed through the entrance to the Spirit Ruins, and from then on, the Skeleton Legion would never threaten the Spirit Ruins again.

The fact that all the legendary powerhouses of the five major races have perished, and that all five star-level realms have been downgraded, is clear proof of this.

Regarding the fall of the legendary powerhouses of the five major clans, all information has been sealed away since then, becoming top-secret files of the Spirit Ruins. To this day, only a few legendary powerhouses from the five major clans have the right to access them.

Unexpectedly, Yun Xinghe knew such a secret. He even said that the skeleton monster defeated by the little skeleton was actually the Bone Dragon King of the Skeleton Army, the terrifying being who, 200 years ago, consecutively killed 128 legendary powerhouses in the Spirit Ruins!

The characteristics of the human and the dragon were easy to identify; of all the skeleton monsters Jiang Hao had seen, only this one possessed these features. The wood-chopping knife snatched from the little skeleton undoubtedly added further evidence to the Bone Dragon King's identity.

However, even now, the five major races combined don't have more than ten legendary powerhouses, while the Skeleton Legion can break through the boundary barrier at any time and invade the Spirit Ruins through the breaches. The 128 powerhouses probably never imagined that the Spirit Ruins would one day fall into such a state when they sacrificed themselves.

In a critical moment, a summoner's summoned creature is needed to save the world.

Jiang Hao found it somewhat ironic.

A moment later, the soul fire in the Bone Dragon King's head went out.

Meanwhile, the little skeleton's minions have already subdued all the epic-level skeleton monsters in the summoning space.

The little skeleton felt no excitement about its own feats of slaying Baron Feldman and the Bone Dragon King; it simply kept its eyes fixed on the ten-meter-square cloud of fog. Jiang Hao only now realized that the fog cloud was the source of the little skeleton's earlier excitement.

But what exactly is there?

What does the little skeleton know?

Why did the little skeleton summon itself into this place?

Jiang Hao had already tried asking the little skeleton these questions many times, but it hadn't given him any response. This left Jiang Hao feeling quite helpless.

Jiang Hao even felt that the thick fog was too dangerous. If the little skeleton insisted on going inside, it would be tantamount to throwing itself into the abyss, into the mouth of a demon.

But what it feared most came to pass: the little skeleton, carrying a wood-chopping axe, actually began to walk step by step towards the thick fog. It found it difficult, and its movement was slow. It seemed there was indeed something it feared within the fog.

Jiang Hao was anxious. He wanted to command the little skeleton to come back, or to get the little skeleton's thoughts and then give it the help it could, but the little skeleton had ignored all his commands.

Just when Jiang Hao was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, the little skeleton finally gave Jiang Hao a message through soul communication.

"Don't worry, the Netherworld King's power has been exhausted, and it has no power left."

King of the Underworld?

Could there be another skeletal monster hidden in the thick fog?

Just as Jiang Hao was making wild guesses, the little skeleton continued, "The Netherworld King's lifespan has come to an end; today is its death day. The Netherworld cannot be without the Netherworld King for even a day, otherwise the entire world will be in chaos. I may... no longer be able to stay with you all the time."

Jiang Hao sensed the deep reluctance and loneliness within the little skeleton's soul. Perhaps the emotion was too intense, and given that it was a communication through souls, transmitted directly without any other processing, it caused Jiang Hao's heart to ache terribly.

The little skeleton noticed Jiang Hao's discomfort and immediately started a new topic to lessen the impact of those emotions on him.

Do you know where this place is?

Jiang Hao knew he didn't need to answer.

"This is the Netherworld, the graveyard of the Spirit Ruins. It is not only a burial place for the dead."

"This is the end of the world. Every moment, countless bones are generated, and immense evil thoughts are generated. As long as there are living beings dying in the Spirit Ruins, the Netherworld will never be at peace."

"At the very center of that thick fog lies the realm of the Underworld King. Would you like to see what it looks like?"

Jiang Hao nodded, but then shook his head, worried that the little skeleton might be in danger.

With a wave of its large hand, the little skeleton dissipated the previously swirling fog, as if blown away by a strong wind. A chair, over four meters tall and constructed of sharp, interlocking black stones, was revealed. The chair was encased in a massive layer of ice, and in the very center of the ice, atop a smooth stone seat, lay a one-finger-long, withered bone.

The little skeleton continued to "talk" to Jiang Hao through soul communication.

"This bone is now the King of the Underworld."

Jiang Hao never imagined that the big shot who controlled the entire summoning space, a king who could command all the skeleton legions, was actually just a piece of withered bone.

Are you kidding me!

Could the little skeleton be planning to become the next King of the Underworld? But being the King of the Underworld is clearly a torment. Judging from the appearance of this current King of the Underworld, the little skeleton's final fate will probably not be much better than its own.

"You don't need to worry. This generation's Netherworld King is just a piece of skeleton. It was put up by the previous generation's Netherworld King."

Why?

Jiang Hao was dumbfounded.

Didn't I say before I went to the little skeleton that it had no previous memories?

How come now...

Jiang Hao was momentarily unable to process what was happening.

“Look at this chair. It contains not only the most intense malice in the world, but also the most abundant vitality. Vitality can give soul to anything without a soul, while malice can instantly destroy the soul of any living being.”

"This piece of withered bone is a finger of an ancient god. Anger constantly gives it life, while malice constantly erodes it. After 800 years of depletion, it has reached its end."

Jiang Hao stared intently at the ancient god's withered bone within the ice, only to find it floating right in front of him, bobbing up and down as if swaying in water.

Jiang Hao blinked and saw a small skeleton sitting on a stone seat made of sharp, black stones inside the thick ice.

An overwhelming wave of malice surged into Jiang Hao's soul like a storm, causing him to collapse to the ground instantly.

Within that malevolent thought, there was the mad roar of a demon, the mournful shriek of a ghost, resentment and pleading, mixed with jealousy twisted to the extreme, hatred and disgust, and murderous intent twisted to the extreme...

Jiang Hao completely lost consciousness, but the piercing pain in his soul did not lessen at all. His whole body convulsed, just like the little skeleton sitting on the throne of the King of the Underworld in the thick ice.
