After saying this, the leader followed his team down into the deep well.
There were many busy jackals coming and going on the platform, all working hard to dig holes. Jiang Hao felt bored, so he opened his backpack.
Jiang Hao hadn't opened the letter in his backpack yet. He was currently being forcibly pulled into a special event by the game administrators, so whether the warning in the letter was true or not didn't matter to him anymore.
Out of curiosity, Jiang Hao finally opened the letter.
"Your Excellency General Lennie, I have searched through ancient texts and finally found a clue about the Heart of Immortality. For Your Majesty's sake, and for Your Majesty's great mission, please immediately dispatch your trusted confidants to the Realm of Numbers in secret. There lies what Your Majesty desires. It is worth mentioning that the nearby Realm of Numbers is under the jurisdiction of the Jackal King Alda, who may be able to offer you some assistance. But please believe me, it is best not to tell him the truth."
The signature below consists of only two characters: Ao Rong.
That's all the content in the main text.
The gnoll script resembled maggots pieced together, initially incomprehensible to Jiang Hao. However, after opening the letter, Jiang Hao inexplicably came to understand its meaning.
Jiang Hao finally understood why the gnolls had massacred the Viscount's castle. It was merely a pretext for General Lennie to borrow troops from King Arda the Gnoll. King Arda was probably unaware that his soldiers had been teleported here via the castle's teleportation array.
Following the letter was background information about the special event, similar to what the game administrator had said before. However, even after flipping to the end, Jiang Hao couldn't find a single word about needing to clear the Nightmare-level Howling Shadow to participate in the event.
Jiang Hao instantly realized that his arrival here was indeed arranged by that game participant. Moreover, he didn't seem to have the limited authority he claimed to have, which only included issuing tasks and setting rewards.
"who is he?"
A hoarse voice came from behind, interrupting Jiang Hao's thoughts. Jiang Hao simply stood there, motionless.
"Your Excellency, the Supreme Court's Judgment No. 98 this year stipulates that each legion must take in one disabled person."
After a pause, I heard a voice behind me say something.
"He has a problem here. So I didn't dare let him go down and cause more trouble."
Jiang Hao guessed that this sentence was probably said while pointing to the head.
"Nonsense! How can the legion fight if it takes in an idiot?"
His voice was hoarse, but louder; even Jiang Hao could tell that it was authoritative.
“Turn around.”
Jiang Hao had no choice but to obey and slowly turned around.
Jiang Hao was somewhat surprised when he saw the two gnolls in front of him, as he recognized both of them.
One was his leader, whom Jiang Hao clearly remembered because he was always kicking Jiang Hao's butt. He had a few horizontal black hairs on his eyebrows, like a human missing half an eyebrow. The other one surprised him more. It was actually the final boss of the Howling Shadows dungeon, the Gnoll Devourer, Vogan! It was nearly 3 meters tall, covered in a complete set of exquisite, jet-black armor, and wielded a massive, two-meter-wide axe. The patterns on the axe's back were exactly the same as the dropped [Bloodthirsty Axe].
These two can be considered old freaks.
Wogen questioned the leader beside him in a stern voice.
"Someone like this can get into the Legion? Did the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court grow up eating shit?"
Jiang Hao thought to himself, "What's wrong with me? Didn't I still beat the shit out of you?"
"Sir, it was the Gwen Human Rights Office that put pressure on us."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Hao was utterly astonished, his worldview shattered.
Do you think we jackals understand human rights? What kind of human rights office is this?
Also, what's with my identity? A gnoll human rights office, a gnoll idiot stuffed into the gnoll army?
Could this premise be any more childish?
Jiang Hao couldn't help but chuckle, and the two gnolls opposite him immediately looked at him.
Jiang Hao broke out in a cold sweat, thinking that it would be a huge loss if he ruined the mission because he couldn't hold back his laughter. So he quickly stood up straight and dared not think about it anymore.
"This is fucking ridiculous! When I first went to the battlefield to fight the enemy, that damn Gervin wasn't even born yet! Now even idiots can join the army."
Wow, they're not going to pursue this? But then I think about it, and it makes sense. Who would take a fool so seriously?
Jiang Hao then realized the planner's good intentions: playing the fool when you know nothing is the easiest way.
Thanks to the game designers, and thanks to Gervin.
"Get this thing out of here, I get annoyed just looking at him!"
"Vorgen, why are you in such a bad mood?"
Just as the leader was about to give the order, a calm and unhurried voice came from behind him.
A gnoll dressed in a blue mage's robe walked over. He walked at a leisurely pace, with an elegant demeanor, much like a nobleman in a TV drama.
Jiang Hao actually thought the jackal was somewhat handsome.
"Greetings, Commander Proud."
Not only the leader, but even the nearly three-meter-tall Wogen bowed respectfully and lowered his head when he saw this mage who was about two meters tall.
Jiang Hao didn't dare use his detection technique on him.
The gnoll mage named Proud nodded slightly. The leader quickly recounted Jiang Hao's story.
"Since it is a court ruling, we must strictly abide by it."
"yes!"
"Since they are our compatriots, we should treat them equally. How can we have discriminatory thoughts?"
"yes!"
Proud spoke a sentence, and the leader and Wolgen nodded in response. Although he didn't look at Jiang Hao once throughout, Jiang Hao found his words quite agreeable. He was completely unaware of who he was speaking to.
"Has that commander named Ryan been found?"
Ryan? That world boss at the crossroads in the starting village, poor Ryan?
The game administrator said that he sacrificed himself to expose your crimes.
Jiang Hao then realized that Ryan was also a ruthless person!
"Sir, we haven't found him yet. I suspect he's been hidden by the two-legged fish."
"Why haven't we found him yet? If he exposes what's going on here, do you know what we'll face?"
The monk's voice rose considerably, clearly indicating that he was angered.
"Without the Military Commission's decision, you privately transferred troops across borders; massacred over two million indigenous people; and conducted special operations in uncivilized territories. Which of these offenses doesn't warrant the death penalty for you and me?"
He said this in a stern tone, but his voice was very soft.
Wogen quickly began to explain.
"Sir, please calm down. Even if he's hiding, it's only in this area. I've already dispatched troops to surround an area of 50 li. We'll find him sooner or later."
"Furthermore, I believe that he is, after all, a former soldier with a wife and children at home. He shouldn't be so likely to expose these matters, right?"
"Hmph, what do you think?"
The monk scoffed dismissively.
"If he hadn't suddenly disappeared, I wouldn't have bothered to investigate him. It was only then that I discovered his instructor at the military academy was Gervin!"
"His mentor is Gervin, you understand? That crazy guy who talks about human rights in everything!"
After a few words, even Wogen realized the seriousness of the situation.
"Yes, I will immediately have my men tighten the encirclement."
After bowing respectfully to finish speaking, Wogen straightened up, took out a token from his waist, and handed it to Jiang Hao's leader who was standing to the side.
"Take the token and go to Voria yourself. Tell him to relay my order to immediately tighten the encirclement. I need to see Ryan by noon tomorrow, whether he's dead or alive. Remember, leave no two-legged fish in the encirclement."
The leader accepted the order and left, and the monk sighed.
“Vorgen, you have too much of a bloodlust. After all, these are creatures within 50 kilometers.”
Jiang Hao finally understood the meaning of "not leaving a single two-legged fish".
It is likely that all the indigenous people within a 50-kilometer radius will be killed by noon tomorrow.
Jiang Hao desperately wanted to tell the two gnoll leaders in front of him that Ryan was dead.
But who would believe the words of a fool?
Looking at the two jackal-men in front of him, Jiang Hao felt a chill run down his spine and just wanted to get as far away from these two executioners as possible.
Thankfully, it's just a game.
