Chapter 58: The fish that slipped through the net.
Chapter 58
Time goes back to the moment when the master of Fuhua Peak received the communication talisman from Bu Xingjin.
Bu Xingjin's brief, hurried words resonated like a thunderclap in the heart of the Fuhua Peak Master. His mind instantly flashed back to the Yinfeng League, a group that had vanished years ago but had recently been rumored to be active. "This shouldn't be happening. How could Xin'er have gotten involved with them? They..."
His words were filled with doubt and uneasiness. At the same time, a strong sense of urgency surged through the Floating Flower Peak Master's heart like a surging tide. He could not wait even a moment. The intelligence he had previously obtained regarding the Yinfeng Alliance's activities reverberated in his mind. He resolutely relied on his immense strength and rushed towards his destination at top speed, recklessly.
A few breaths later, the Floating Flower Peak Master appeared in Black Wind Valley, anxious and worried. His powerful consciousness was like a vast, invisible net, instantly enveloping the entire valley. He was completely focused, like a keen hunter, not missing even the slightest clue.
Finally, in the deepest part of a cave, he caught the faint scent of his daughter, Zhong Wenxin, as faint as a candle in the wind. Without hesitation, he followed that scent, darting away like lightning.
It was a dark, damp dungeon, the air thick with the stench of decay and blood, as if it were the abode of a demon. It was clearly a carefully laid trap, but the Master of Floating Flower Peak could no longer care. Without a moment's hesitation, he resolutely stepped inside.
As soon as he entered, a sinister laugh sounded in his ears.
"Master of Fuhua Peak, you are here after all." The elder of Yinfeng League, with wrinkles all over his face and looking extremely old, walked out slowly from the shadows, with a sly smile on his face after his conspiracy succeeded.
The head of Fuhua Peak's eyes widened in anger, as if burning with raging fire. He shouted fiercely, "You are indeed the remnants of the Yinfeng Alliance! How dare you capture my daughter? If you don't hand her over safely today, I will make you pay a heavy price!"
The elder of the Yinfeng League, however, showed no fear. He walked out slowly, his hands behind his back, looking relaxed and content. He said, "Hmph, Peak Master, don't be so angry. Your daughter is just a pawn in our plan."
The Peak Master frowned, his sword-like eyebrows trembling slightly. He suppressed his anger and asked, "What is your purpose? Why did you capture my daughter and lure me here?"
The elder chuckled, revealing a set of neat and sinister teeth that were seriously inconsistent with his appearance. That smile made people shudder.
"Peak Master, do you know that many years ago, the Amaterasu Sect joined forces with several other major sects to nearly destroy our Yinfeng Alliance? We, the Yinfeng Alliance, will not give up until this revenge is avenged."
"Right now, our Yinfeng League is planning to attack the Amaterasu Sect. You, the leader of Fuhua Peak, are very powerful, but unfortunately, we can't kill you right away. If we don't trap you, our actions might be affected. Therefore, we can only use your daughter as bait."
The Peak Master snorted coldly, his voice as cold as ice. "You evil people, you still dream of revenge? It's simply a foolish dream."
The elder shook his head, a strange glint in his eyes. He said, "Peak Master, you are wrong. Although our Yinfeng Alliance has suffered heavy losses, we have been secretly accumulating strength over the years. Now the time has come, and we must make the Amaterasu Sect pay for its blood debt with blood. And you are the stumbling block on our path."
The Peak Master's eyes were icy, as if they could freeze everything. He said, "Your ambitions are doomed to fail. I will never allow you to do whatever you want."
The elder laughed heartily, his laughter echoing through the dark dungeon, sounding particularly eerie and terrifying. "Peak Master, you're trapped in this formation now, barely able to protect yourself, how can you possibly stop us? Just stay here obediently. Once we complete our plan, kowtow and beg for mercy, and I might consider letting you go."
The Peak Master laughed in anger, his voice filled with majesty and dominance, "You think this little formation can trap me? You underestimate me too much."
The elder's lips curled up slightly, with a hint of sarcasm, "Peak Master, this formation is no ordinary formation. It is a trap carefully prepared by our Yinfeng League. It combines more than a dozen formations of various sizes. No matter how strong you are, it will be difficult for you to escape in a short time."
The Peak Master clenched the spirit sword in his hand. The light on the spirit sword flickered, as if responding to the master's anger. "I want to see how powerful your formation is."
The elder crossed his arms, looking confident of victory. "Peak Master, stop struggling. Think carefully about how to beg for mercy from our Yinfeng League."
The Peak Master roared angrily, his spiritual energy surging through his body like a surging tide. "You, the Yinfeng Alliance, have committed countless evil deeds. Sooner or later, you will receive retribution. Even if I use up my last bit of strength, I will not let you succeed."
Before he finished speaking, the elder quickly formed seals with his hands, a ray of light flashed, and black runes instantly rose up all around, forming a complex and evil formation.
The Peak Master was startled and tried to break out of the formation, but he found that the space around him seemed to be solidified, and a powerful force continued to squeeze him.
"Hmph, this is carefully prepared by my Yinfeng League. Don't even think about escaping today!" The elder laughed wildly with pride.
The head of Fuhua Peak had a gloomy expression, his eyes revealing determination: "You think you can trap me with just this little formation?"
His spiritual energy surged throughout his body, and the spiritual sword in his hand shone brightly as he launched fierce attacks against the formation again and again. However, the formation was incredibly resilient, resisting his attacks time and time again, and continuously rebounding with powerful force, putting the Peak Master in a difficult position.
…
Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen approached the Black Wind Valley cautiously. At the valley's entrance, the wind howled, stirring up clouds of dust and sand, blurring vision.
"Brother Bu, this place looks eerie. Are you sure Senior Sister Zhong is in there?" Zhao Siwen's voice trembled slightly.
Bu Xingjin tightened the weapon in his hand and said with a firm look, "Since we're here, let's go in and take a look. Senior Sister Zhong might be waiting for us to rescue her inside."
Zhao Siwen gritted his teeth and nodded, "Okay, then let's be careful."
The two of them slowly stepped into the valley. The wind in the valley grew even more shrill, as if countless wronged souls were wailing. The trees on both sides of the road were twisted and strange, their branches intertwined, casting patches of shadows.
Bu Xingjin observed his surroundings warily when he heard a faint noise. He signaled Zhao Siwen to silence him, and the two hid behind a large rock. A group of men in black robes passed by, emitting a sinister aura.
Bu Xingjin looked at the direction the group of men in black were walking and felt something was wrong.
After the group of people left, Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen continued on their way. The deeper they went into the valley, the more eerie the atmosphere became. Strange noises could be heard from time to time, making their hair stand on end.
Afterwards, they encountered several more waves of men in black. They all moved in the same way. They didn't seem to be on patrol, but were heading out of the Black Wind Valley. They looked like soldiers going to support the battlefield, moving in an organized manner.
Bu Xingjin didn't understand why, but he couldn't afford to dwell on it. He and Zhao Siwen carefully searched the Black Wind Valley for Zhong Wenxin and the master of Floating Flower Peak.
Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen carefully avoided the black-clad men who were leaving and searched carefully in the Black Wind Valley. Every time they passed a corner, their hearts were hanging higher, for fear of missing any clues about Zhong Wenxin.
"Brother Bu, do you think Senior Sister Zhong will be here? Where exactly will she be hiding?" Zhao Siwen asked in a low voice.
Bu Xingjin frowned, his eyes sweeping around with determination: "No matter what, we can't miss any possible place."
They crossed a rocky area and a deep canyon, but still found nothing. Just when they were feeling discouraged, Bu Xingjin suddenly discovered a cave hidden behind the mountain wall. The entrance was covered by lush vines, making it extremely difficult to find without careful observation.
"Siwen, look there!" Bu Xingjin pointed at the cave. Zhao Siwen looked in the direction of his finger, a glimmer of hope in his eyes: "Maybe Senior Sister Zhong is in there."
The two approached the cave cautiously. As soon as they stepped through the entrance, a pungent odor assaulted their nostrils. Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen covered their mouths and noses as they continued deeper. The cave was dimly lit, and the damp ground was covered with strange footprints. They became increasingly cautious, fearing an enemy ambush.
Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen continued to walk deeper into the cave. The light became dimmer and they could only perceive their surroundings with their weak spiritual sense.
Suddenly, a ray of light appeared in front of them. The two quickened their pace and when they got closer, they saw that it was the master of Fuhua Peak who was trapped by the formation.
The Peak Master was now desperately resisting the suppression of the formation, his face solemn and beads of sweat on his forehead. Seeing them approach, he immediately shouted angrily, "Get out!"
The two of them realized something was wrong in an instant and wanted to retreat but found it was too late. They had unknowingly entered the formation.
The next second, an overwhelming force suddenly attacked Bu Xingjin and Zhao Siwen.
They reacted instantly, quickly circulated their spiritual power, and prepared to resist with all their might as if facing a formidable enemy.
However, when facing Bu Xingjin, the seemingly terrifying force was like a huge fishing net, and Bu Xingjin seemed to be the small fish that slipped through the net and was completely ignored by this force.
Bu Xingjin was filled with doubts and looked back at Zhao Siwen in surprise. Zhao Siwen, whose cultivation level was similar to his, was not being ignored like him. He was trying his best to resist the suppression of the formation, and it seemed quite strenuous.
After thinking about it, Bu Xingjin tentatively moved around in the formation and was surprised to find that he was like walking in an empty space and did not feel any suppression at all.
After a moment's thought, he decided to walk outside the formation. When the Floating Flower Peak Master reminded him, he hadn't given it much thought. It was like being suddenly locked in a room with only one door. The moment the door was locked, he subconsciously assumed he couldn't get out. But who would have thought he could actually "walk through the wall"?
He took a few steps slowly, and in front of Zhao Siwen's stunned expression, Bu Xingjin walked out of the formation easily.
