Chapter 75 Lin Haidong
After the relationship between Lin Haidong and Gao Luo eased a few years ago, he would go to Yicheng to see Lin Qingxu during every festival.
Perhaps the trauma of her childhood was too profound, Lin Qingxu didn't really want to see him. Kan Zhao pulled her into his room, locked the door, and denied knowing where Lin Xiaoxiao was, no matter who asked. He bluntly added that it might be because he didn't want to see certain people.
Over time, Lin Haidong also understood what Lin Qingxu meant, and he rarely came to Yicheng anymore. He only asked about Lin Qingxu's recent situation frequently through social software.

Because they were the ones scratched by Jin Yuanbao, Lin Qingxu accompanied them to the hospital.
Lin Haidong's youngest son is named Lin Haonan. For some unknown reason, he always sticks to Lin Qingxu and follows her closely.
Later he found out that Lin Qingxu was not enthusiastic about him, and her attitude could be said to be a bit cold. He thought that she was like this because she hurt Jin Yuanbao, so he pulled Lin Qingxu's skirt.
"Sister, I didn't mean to hurt the cat. I just thought it was so cute and wanted to pet it, but the floor was too slippery and I fell a little."
He apologized to Jin Yuanbao very seriously: "I'm sorry, cat, I didn't mean it. Is it painful? I can comfort you."
Lin Qingxu lowered his eyes and looked at him, not knowing what to say in reply.
Actually, it was Lin Haidong's fault for not being able to control himself. Plus, Lin Haonan's mother was the one who was in the relationship and meddled in someone else's marriage.
None of this seemed to have anything to do with Lin Haonan. From the moment he was a fetus, he had been exploited by those closest to him, and he could never escape the identity of being a bastard.
But she just said "hmm" and said nothing more.
Lin Haonan didn't receive the comfort and forgiveness that Lin Qingxu had imagined for Jin Yuanbao. He felt a little sad and pouted in grievance.
It was when he saw Lin Qingxu's photo on his father's mobile phone that he realized he had a sister.
Lin Haonan had always been envious of other children who had older brothers and sisters to play with. Later, when he learned about Lin Qingxu's existence, he was extremely happy.
But it seems that my sister doesn't like him.
It was not until the nurse came over to take him to treat his wound that Lin Haonan let go of the hand that was holding Lin Qingxu's skirt. He looked back every few steps and followed the nurse reluctantly, his little back full of loss.
For a moment, only Lin Qingxu, Lin Haidong and his current wife were left in the hospital corridor.
The atmosphere fell into silence for a moment.
Lin Qingxu sat on the waiting chair and gently stroked and examined Jin Yuanbao's exposed skin.
She had just asked Dr. Qin on her phone. He looked at the photos she had taken and replied that it was nothing serious. If she was worried, she could go to the hospital later to get some medicine.
Lin Haidong took a hesitant half step forward, his voice low and a look of concern on his face. "Qing Xu," he said, his voice deliberately soft, "have you been busy with your studies lately?"
Such concern and care did not cause much ripples in Lin Qingxu's mind.
She replied softly, "Not busy." Her attitude was distant.
Lin Haidong wanted to find some other topics to break the tense atmosphere, but when he saw his daughter's obvious refusal to communicate, all the words were stuck in his throat.
He knew Lin Qingxu had been admitted to Nanmei and was currently studying in Nanchuan. He clearly remembered that with her grades, she could go to Beijing, but he had never had the right to doubt or care. Lin Qingxu's distant attitude towards him over the years knew that he had no right to participate in her life, let alone interfere.
So even though Lin Haidong lived so close to Lin Qingxu, he never bothered her. Sometimes he would just glance at her from afar on campus.
But he knew clearly in his heart Lin Qingxu's attitude towards him, and now that he was facing it directly, he felt depressed again.
Lin Haidong's current wife was also feeling mixed emotions. She hadn't had an easy time these past few years. When she intervened, she thought Lin Haidong would stop having anything to do with Gao Luo and her daughter, and would devote himself to their family.
But things were clearly unfolding in a direction she hadn't anticipated. But she couldn't make a scene. Unlike Gao Yao, she didn't have a job and had always relied on Lin Haidong for support. If she really upset him, her status as a wealthy wife would be difficult to maintain.
Seeing Lin Haidong's current expression, she took the initiative to flatter him.
She said to Lin Qingxu in a soft voice, "Qingxu, your father cares about you. It would be hard for him to feel good if you replied like this."
Wen Hui's voice was naturally thin and sharp. For a moment, Lin Qingxu seemed to hear the sound of glass shattering when Lin Haidong and Gao Luo accidentally bumped into their wedding photo and dropped it during an argument ten years ago.
That was the sound that accompanied her childhood nightmares and once made her afraid to sleep.
Lin Qingxu's arms tightened unconsciously around Jin Yuanbao, and Jin Yuanbao seemed to sense the stiffness in her body, shifting restlessly before licking Lin Qingxu's fingers soothingly.
The delicate and warm touch brought Lin Qingxu back to her senses. Jin Yuanbao had already been frightened today, and she couldn't let her negative influence on him be passed on to him.
Seeing Lin Qingxu's expression soften, Wen Hui thought her words had worked. She stepped forward, a smile plastered on her face. "Qingxu, your father has always been thinking about you. Look at what happened today. It's fate. We finally got to meet as a family..."
As she spoke, she naturally reached out and wanted to pull Lin Qingxu's wrist, trying to create an illusion of intimacy with body language.
Lin Qing may have a physical aversion to being touched by Wen Hui, a third party. Gao Luo had shed tears only a few times in her life, and those few times were all because of Wen Hui.
Just when Wen Hui's fingertips were about to touch her, Lin Qingxu, holding the cat, took a half step back unnoticed.
Wen Hui's hand just hung in the air, the smile on her face suddenly froze, and the scene became even more awkward.
Lin Qingxu raised his eyes and glanced at Wen Hui's slightly embarrassed face.
She found that being tolerant would not get her the situation she wanted, but would instead make the woman in front of her even more aggressive.
In the past, Lin Qingxu might have just said goodbye, but everything that had happened recently made her suddenly want to ask.
Lin Qingxu's gaze fell on Lin Haidong. Wen Hui was wrong, but that didn't mean Lin Haidong wasn't.
But compared to Wen Hui's hypocrisy and disgust, she seemed more willing to talk to Lin Haidong.
She asked softly:
"Family? With me and my mother? Or with this woman and her son?"
Lin Qingxu's tone was calm and gentle, yet stinging. "You already have a new family now, so don't have any contact with your ex-wife and the daughter you abandoned. It was you who chose to betray them, wasn't it?"
Perhaps Lin Qingxu had already expressed these words through his actions over the years, but it was obviously more hurtful to say them directly.
Lin Haidong felt a sharp pain in his heart as he looked at Lin Qingxu's distant eyes. Once upon a time, she had softly called him "Dad," saying he was the best man in the world. Countless times in his dreams, he regretted not giving in to her temptation.
As if all his strength had been drained away, Lin Haidong's shoulders slumped, his voice hoarse and tired: "It's...it's Dad's fault."
Apart from admitting it, he couldn't say anything to excuse himself.
Wen Hui, who was standing by, turned pale as she listened to his words. She could no longer maintain her original smile and looked away with a complicated look in her eyes.
Lin Qingxu looked at Lin Haidong, who did not make any excuses but accepted the situation completely. This made it impossible for her to vent the emotions that had been accumulating for many years.
It was hard to describe her current mood, a mixture of sadness and relief. She missed her mother, and also a little bit of Kan Zhao.
After a moment's silence, she said:
"If you really want to do good for me, then please stop disturbing my life and my mother's. We will be happier and more blessed without you."
Lin Qingxu's voice was very soft, clearly distinguishing herself from Lin Haidong:
"I'll take care of the medical expenses. If there's nothing else, I'll take Yuanbao back first. He's also injured and needs treatment."
Lin Qingxu stood up and left with the gold ingot in his arms.
Lin Haidong stood there, looking at his daughter's receding back. The lame excuses that he couldn't say turned into a heavier boulder, pressing on his heart, making it almost impossible for him to breathe.
He lost the courage to make amends and was left with only endless regret.
If only...
