Chapter 124 I already have someone I like.
After chatting with Guan Xiang on the sofa for a while, Gu Ji went to find Dan Anwen.
After searching around, I found a man standing on the balcony with a glass of red wine, looking at the scenery. Just as I was about to go over to find him, a beautiful figure appeared in my sight.
It was Weng Yunlan, dressed in a white dress, who saw the two of them looking at the night view outside with their backs to her. For some reason, she remembered Guan Xiang's wild idea from earlier.
Gu Ji felt as if a claw was scratching at her heart. Curiosity drove her to quietly approach the two of them. Just as she got close to them, she heard Weng Yunlan talking.
"Mr. Dan is already twenty-seven, and he hasn't even thought about finding a girlfriend yet? I have many excellent female friends around me, would you like me to introduce one to him?"
Weng Yunlan wasn't actually there to chat with Dan Anwen for no reason. Her best friend had taken a liking to Dan Anwen's looks and family background and had asked her to come and inquire about him.
Dan Anwen's lips curled slightly indifferently, and he said in a nonchalant tone, "That's none of Vice President Weng's concern."
After a pause, the man said in a slightly indulgent tone, "I already have someone I like."
These words stunned the two women present. A look of surprise flashed across Weng Yunlan's face. She had said that the head of the Dan Group had no reaction to blind dates. It turned out that he had someone he liked!
Gu Ji didn't listen to their conversation afterwards; her mind was filled with Uncle Dan saying that he had someone he liked.
My steps away from the balcony were hurried and trembling, tears welled up in my eyes and almost spilled out, my mind was buzzing and my thoughts were in disarray.
It wasn't until she reached a secluded corner that Gu Ji began to gasp for breath, her heart pounding. Was her unrequited love going to end in vain?
She was in excruciating pain throughout her body; every breath she took affected all her organs. Her eyes were red, her face was deathly pale, and her dry, thin lips were tightly pressed together.
After a long while, her clenched fist loosened slightly, and blood returned to her pale fingertips. The bright red blood flowed slowly back, and her slender white fingertips trembled.
Just thinking about what the man said makes my heart clench uncontrollably.
After composing herself, Gu Ji walked out from around the corner and saw Dan Anwen frantically searching for her as soon as she entered the lobby.
Dan Anwen spotted Gu Ji emerging from the corner at a glance. She hurried forward, her voice anxious, "Little friend, where have you been? I can't get through to you on the phone."
As he spoke, the man carefully examined the girl from head to toe, as if afraid that something might happen to her.
Gu Ji sniffed slightly, a pale smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Uncle Dan, I'm a little tired. Let's go home."
Now all she wants to do is go back to her room and get a good night's sleep, otherwise she's afraid the man will notice her emotions.
Dan Anwen looked at the girl's bloodshot eyes and assumed she was just tired, so he took her home without saying a word.
Upon returning to Jinshan Villa, Gu Ji casually made up an excuse to go upstairs to sleep.
Although the man found it strange that the girl spoke very little and went to bed early tonight, he didn't feel anything was wrong. He just assumed she was tired from studying too much.
The girl hid it too well; she put on a mask of her everyday appearance, afraid of revealing even the slightest thought to the man.
The bright moonlight outside couldn't penetrate the tightly drawn curtains. In the pitch-black room, the quilt on the bed was bulging, and Gu Ji stared blankly at the ceiling with his watery eyes.
Uncle Dan said he has someone he likes.
These words and the man's doting tone at the time kept lingering in her mind, impossible to shake off.
As I thought about it, tears uncontrollably streamed down my face, wetting the pillow and creating irregular ripples that slowly seeped into the soft cotton.
Gradually, the silent tears turned into soft sobs, and tears streamed down her cheeks into her dry mouth.
The salty taste had no effect on the girl's tongue, which was almost devoid of sensation, and her whole body was trembling.
She really liked Uncle Dan, but Uncle Dan already had someone he liked.
Thinking of this, she found it hard to breathe; only her heavy breathing reminded her that she was still alive.
The girl stayed awake almost all night, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Every time she closed her eyes, the man's words echoed clearly and penetratingly in her ears.
Not long after dawn, Gu Ji got up and looked at her face covered in tears in the mirror. Her red, swollen, and wet eyes clearly showed that she had been crying.
Gu Ji glanced at the pile of cosmetics on the dressing table and followed the online tutorials to cover them up a bit. Apart from the bloodshot eyes from not sleeping all night, everything else was fine.
After packing, she slung her backpack over her shoulder and tiptoed out of the room. As she passed the man's door, she paused slightly.
Her wet eyes stared at the man's room for a while before she practically fled downstairs.
"Zhao Zhao, why are you up so early?" Aunt Zhang looked at Gu Ji's schoolbag with some surprise.
Gu Ji composed himself, his voice slightly nasal, "I left my homework at school and need to catch up."
As he spoke, he walked out of the villa, and before Aunt Zhang could react, he had already disappeared through the doorway.
"Why are you in such a hurry? You didn't even eat breakfast?" Aunt Zhang muttered.
After Gu Ji left the villa, the spring morning was slightly chilly. The cool breeze made her shiver, and her slender white fingers gripped the strap of her schoolbag slightly.
While riding the subway, I missed several stops because I was distracted.
By the time we arrived at the classroom, it was already very close to the start of class.
Fortunately, it was Monday, and Guan Xiang and the others were all half asleep at their desks, unaware of Gu Ji's slightly red eyes.
On the other side, when Dan Anwen went downstairs for her morning run, Aunt Zhang called her back.
“Sir, Zhao Zhao went to school right away without even having breakfast.”
Dan Anwen frowned and looked at Aunt Zhang, his voice hoarse, "She went out early this morning?"
Aunt Zhang didn't chase after him in the morning, initially assuming the man knew something, but judging from his reaction, he seemed completely unaware.
"Yes, I got up very early and went downstairs with my schoolbag, saying that I had left my homework at school and needed to go back to finish it."
After pondering for a moment, Dan Anwen turned and walked upstairs, saying as he went, "Aunt Zhang, pack up the breakfast, I'll take it to her school."
Aunt Zhang replied immediately, "Okay, I'll go prepare right away."
A short while later, the man took off his gray tracksuit, put on a well-tailored suit, picked up the insulated box that Aunt Zhang had placed on the dining table, and drove to Nan'an Middle School.
After tidying up his textbooks and homework in his schoolbag, Gu Ji sat in his seat, lost in thought, waiting for class to start.
Suddenly, Guan Xiang tugged at her sleeve. "Zhao Zhao, what are you daydreaming about? Uncle Dan is outside the door."
Gu Ji's expression turned slightly flustered upon hearing the words "Uncle Dan," but she immediately suppressed it and looked towards the door. She saw the man holding a thermos in one hand and had the other hand in his pocket, looking at her with dark eyes.
Gu Ji subconsciously pursed her lips and walked almost slowly out of the classroom, her head slightly lowered, her eyes not daring to look the man in the eye.
Dan Anwen looked at the whorl of hair on the girl's head and felt a sinking feeling in his heart. The girl's mood was very strange. On the way here, he thought back carefully and it seemed that she was in a low mood at the engagement party last night.
"Little girl, why are you leaving so early? Didn't you even eat breakfast?" Dan Anwen wanted to reach out and ruffle the girl's hair, but she instinctively dodged him.
The man's large, well-defined hand hovered in mid-air, his brows furrowed slightly, his deep, dark eyes fixed on the girl, his black pupils like unyielding ink, an unreadable emotion flickering within them.
Gu Ji also realized that her behavior just now was a bit too extreme, so he pursed his lips and said, "I left my homework at school, so I came back this morning to finish it. I forgot to tell you."
After he finished speaking, there was another silence between the two of them.
The man stared at the girl's eyes with an ambiguous look, trying to discern any change in her emotions, but the girl concealed it well, her eyes filled with undisguised honesty.
Dan Anwen withdrew his hand, which had been hanging in mid-air, and said with a slight smile, "Eat your breakfast later."
Gu Ji took the insulated box from the man, her eyelids slightly lowered, "Class is about to start, I'll go in first, goodbye Uncle Dan."
Watching the girl's unnatural departure, the man pursed his thin lips, his unfathomable eyes fixed on her, making it impossible to discern his emotions.
He stood there for a long time before turning and leaving.
After entering the classroom, Gu Ji placed the insulated box on the table and stared at it blankly.
Even though Guan Xiang was very sleepy, she could tell that something was wrong with her. "Zhao Zhao, what's wrong?"
"It's nothing, I just left my homework at school and didn't have time to eat breakfast before coming here to catch up. Uncle Dan brought me breakfast, would you like to have some with me?" Gu Ji looked away and said with a smile.
Guan Xiang looked at the girl strangely for a moment, then waved her hand and said, "No need, I've already eaten breakfast."
I found it strange; I didn't see Zhao Zhao doing her homework this morning.
