Chapter 218 Extra Chapter 3: Childbirth
"Yangyang, do you think the baby in Second Grandma's belly is a girl or a boy?" Gu Ji looked tenderly at Danyang, who was gently touching her belly.
My six-month-old belly is already slightly protruding, and Dan Yang has been touching it for quite some time now.
A child's sweet voice rang out, "The baby in Second Grandma's belly is a girl, she's Auntie."
Upon hearing this, Guan Xiang leaned closer and asked, "How can you be so sure that the baby in your second grandmother's belly is your aunt?"
"That's what my great-grandfather said," Dan Yang replied innocently, immediately betraying his father.
Gu Ji was both amused and exasperated. Dan's father had only mentioned a few times that he hoped it would be a girl, but Dan Yang had misinterpreted his meaning and thought it meant a girl.
"Does Yangyang want his aunt or his uncle?" Gu Ji touched Dan Yang's soft cheeks.
Without hesitation, Danyang said, "Yangyang wants his aunt. Aunt is a cute girl, and Yangyang can protect her."
After saying that, he patted his chest like a little man, as if he could hold up the sky.
“Okay, from now on, Auntie will need Yangyang to help take care of her.” Gu Ji’s eyes were gentle.
"Yes, Yangyang will do it. He will definitely take good care of Auntie." Danyang nodded solemnly, his eyes fixed on Gu Ji's round belly.
During her pregnancy, Gu Ji had a rosy complexion and radiated maternal glow, and was well taken care of by Dan Anwen.
The man took thoughtfulness to the extreme, fearing that something might happen to him.
Gu Ji leaned against the headboard, letting the man apply pregnancy oil to her belly. Seeing him looking down and focusing on doing something, she couldn't help but curl the corners of her mouth into a smile.
She hadn't experienced any of the hardships of pregnancy during these past few months. If it weren't for her increasingly large belly, she would sometimes doubt whether she was pregnant.
The teachers at Nan'an Middle School have great benefits, and they won't have to go to work after five months. She usually stays at home and plays. Her husband is afraid she'll be bored, so he often invites people over to keep her company.
When he has time, he wishes he could stay home with her every day. Afraid that she would get bored at home, he would take her to play and see the scenery around Nan'an City.
Mental health is perfect.
Needless to say, her physical health is excellent. Several people in her family take care of her, and her food, clothing, housing, and transportation are all of the highest standard, so there's naturally nothing to worry about.
"What's wrong? Why are you staring at me?" Dan Anwen had already noticed the gaze fixed on him.
Gu Ji blinked, concealing the slyness in his eyes, "Uncle Dan, do you prefer a baby girl or a baby boy?"
Dan Anwen stopped what she was doing, looked up at Gu Ji, and immediately saw that she had ill intentions, but she didn't expose her. Gu Ji's mood had been unstable lately, so it was better to go along with her.
“I love any child born to a parent, whether it’s a boy or a girl,” Dan Anwen said, continuing what she was doing.
Gu Ji pouted, unable to refute his words, but she had another trick up her sleeve: "After the child is born, will you like the child more, or me more?"
"As the saying goes, 'love me, love my dog,' I like you, so naturally I'll like our baby too." Dan Anwen's answer was flawless, silencing Gu Ji's next words.
He was sure that if he said he liked one of them, the child would definitely pick a fight, get jealous, or complain again.
He never expected that pregnant women could be slow to react at times, but now she was perfectly lucid. "Mr. Dan, please answer Mrs. Dan's question directly, not with such ambiguous answers."
Dan Anwen's thin lips curled up almost imperceptibly, and he chuckled inwardly. It seemed he couldn't escape the soul-searching question tonight.
"My love for the baby is based on my love for you, so you don't need to doubt that you are the person I love most." Dan Anwen straightened his expression, his deep eyes fixed on Gu Ji, his tone incredibly gentle.
Gu Ji's fair cheeks flushed red, both from being moved by the man's sincere words and from feeling ashamed of her sudden, wicked thoughts.
Uncle Dan took great care of her, but sometimes she couldn't help but want to pick a fight. Her mood was out of her control, maybe she was just bored and had nothing better to do.
"Uncle Dan, I'm sorry, I've become weird again." Gu Ji tugged at the man's sleeve and pouted.
Dan Anwen placed the bottle on the table and gently kissed Gu Ji's pouting lips. "Don't say sorry. Carrying a baby is a shared responsibility between the two of us. You take care of the physical aspects, so I'll take care of the emotional ones."
He'd rather have his kids bother him than experience prenatal anxiety or postpartum depression.
"Uncle Dan, you'll spoil me rotten." Gu Ji's eyes flickered slightly.
They had been married for seven years, and the man had always pampered her like a carefree child.
Dan Anwen smiled and pinched her rosy cheek. "You're spoiled, but I love you too."
Gu Ji went into labor one night in spring, more than half a month earlier than her due date.
"Uncle Dan." Gu Ji nudged the man beside him nervously.
Since Gu Ji became pregnant, Dan Anwen has been on high alert, and she would quickly open her eyes at the slightest movement from those around her.
The moment Gu Ji's fingertips touched his arm, the man's mind cleared a bit. "What's wrong, little kid?"
He assumed she wanted to go to the bathroom or was hungry and wanted to eat, so his voice remained relatively calm.
In the darkness, Gu Ji blinked, a strange sense of calm settling in her heart. "I think I'm about to give birth."
As soon as she finished speaking, the man beside her sat up abruptly, quickly turned on the light to check on Gu Ji's condition, and immediately comforted her.
"Don't be afraid, little one. I'll take you to the hospital." With that, he steadily picked up Gu Ji and walked towards the door, only his hurried footsteps revealing his anxious heart.
To avoid frightening or worrying Gu Ji, he tried his best not to show his emotions and to comfort Gu Ji in a steady tone.
The commotion alerted Aunt Zhang in the downstairs bedroom, who immediately understood the situation upon seeing the two.
"Sir, you take your wife to the hospital first. I'll pack my things and come with you," Aunt Zhang said, taking a few steps after Dan Anwen.
Dan Anwen had no interest in responding to her and drove to the hospital.
Aunt Zhang immediately went back to the villa to call Mr. and Mrs. Dan, and took the things she had prepared to the hospital.
Only after Dan Anwen escorted Gu Ji into the delivery room did he realize that his hands were trembling uncontrollably.
When the Dan and Guan families arrived at the delivery room, they saw the usually dignified man looking disheveled, his pajamas soaked with amniotic fluid, and he appeared dejected and helpless.
"How is Zhao Zhao doing?" Dan's mother asked, pulling Dan Anwen, who was waiting outside the delivery room.
With slightly red eyes, Dan Anwen stared at the door of the delivery room, trying to see what was happening inside. Her voice was hoarse as she spoke, "I don't know, the baby won't let me in."
He wanted to go in with them, but the other child wouldn't let him, saying it was too ugly and he couldn't look.
He has been inside for half an hour since he arrived, and he knows nothing about the situation.
"No news is good news," Mrs. Guan comforted her.
Dan's mother then came to her senses, somewhat at a loss, and nodded repeatedly, "Yes, no news is good news."
Dan Anwen stood motionless in one place like a statue, staring intently at the door of the delivery room, refusing to sit down no matter what others said.
The two families sat on chairs at the door, not sleeping a wink all night. Dan Anwen even stood at the door all night, and when a nurse came out, he grabbed her and asked her about the situation, acting like a madman.
If it weren't for Danfu and Dansi stopping her, she might have run into the delivery room.
The delivery lasted for more than six hours. When the nurse pushed the baby out, the morning sun shone on the earth from the east.
How is my wife?
How is my daughter-in-law?
How is the mother doing?
Dan Anwen and the people outside paid no attention to the child in the car; instead, they all rushed over to ask about Zhao Zhao's condition.
The nurse pushed the baby out and was almost startled by the crowd rushing towards her. She steadied herself before saying, "Mother and daughter are safe and sound. Congratulations on the arrival of your precious daughter."
Hearing that Gu Ji was safe, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, especially Dan Anwen, whose body swayed slightly and almost collapsed to the ground.
"You mean mother and daughter?" The first to react was Dan's father, who looked at the nurse with a shocked expression.
The nurse was slightly taken aback, noticing that Mr. Dan's expression wasn't good. She assumed he was biased towards boys and was about to say something when she heard Mr. Dan laugh and say, "I finally have a granddaughter! Let me see her!"
She was about to go over and take a look when her mother intercepted her, skillfully picking up the baby from the stroller. "Oh, Grandma's adorable granddaughter is so beautiful."
Seeing this, Dan Si could only watch longingly, wanting to find an opportunity to hug his soft little granddaughter. His smile was kind and gentle, making Dan Si question the meaning of life.
He had never seen his grandfather with such a kind expression before, but the little sister was quite cute, much cuter than the naughty boy.
Guan Xiang also came over, squeezing her mother out of space, "So cute! Much cuter than Yangyang was when he was little."
Author: As expected of a married couple, their thoughts are exactly the same.
The group of people outside the delivery room were chatting and laughing around the baby, gradually pushing Dan Anwen, the father, to the outermost edge, where he still stared nervously into the delivery room.
"When will my wife be able to come out?" Dan Anwen's voice was hoarse, and his dark eyes were bloodshot.
The nurse said, "It'll be out in a bit."
When Gu Ji was wheeled out, she was already asleep from exhaustion. Dan Anwen followed her to the ward and stayed by her side.
"Water..." Gu Ji, lying on the hospital bed, parted his chapped lips slightly and slowly opened his eyes.
Dan Anwen kept a close eye on her. When he saw her say she was thirsty, he immediately poured water from the kettle into a glass and inserted a straw.
"Little girl, have some water." Dan Anwen placed the cup to the side of Gu Ji's face, making sure the straw could enter her mouth.
Gu Ji opened his mouth, bit the straw, took a few sips, and then shook his head.
"Where's the child?" Gu Ji turned her head; only she and Uncle Dan were in the ward.
Dan Anwen leaned down and kissed her forehead, his voice tender and gentle, "Thank you for your hard work, little one, in the observation room."
Gu Ji blinked, her mind solely focused on the baby, completely ignoring the man's earlier question, "Boy or girl?"
She closed her eyes and fell asleep as soon as she gave birth in the delivery room, and had no idea what the baby's gender was.
"It's a girl, very cute," Dan Anwen said with a smile.
Actually, he hadn't seen what the baby looked like. He had overheard people saying the baby was quite cute outside the delivery room, but he couldn't tell the little girl that, or she would get angry.
"I want to see the baby," Gu Ji said, blinking.
Dan Anwen gently stroked Gu Ji's nose, her eyes full of affection. "Okay, I'll have Mom bring her over."
As he spoke, he called Dan's mother.
After the baby was brought over, Gu Ji finally saw what the baby looked like; the baby was all wrinkled and looked rather unattractive.
However, considering that this was her own child, she didn't say much. Anyway, when Dan's mother said that the eyebrows looked like hers and the mouth looked like Dan's uncle, she couldn't see it at all.
Dan Anwen glanced at the child in Gu Ji's arms and knew what she was thinking from Gu Ji's expression. "Don't worry, all newborns look like this. It will be fine in a while."
He had read many books on childbirth and knew that newborn babies are mostly wrinkled.
Gu Ji felt a little relieved upon hearing this. As the daughter of the Dan family, she didn't need to be beautiful, but she couldn't be too ugly either.
Danxing: That was my mom's first impression of me.
