Chapter 39 Beauty Without Self-Awareness

Chapter 39 Beauty Without Self-Awareness

The girl stared wide-eyed as the man put the porridge into his mouth, her expression tense. "Uncle Dan, is it good?"

Dan Anwen slowly put down the spoon, her gentle eyes smiling, "The child's cooking skills are quite good."

Upon hearing this, the girl's slightly furrowed brows relaxed, her facial muscles softened, and her eyes sparkled with light.

The man stared at the girl for a few seconds before turning his gaze back to the porridge in his bowl.

He wasn't exaggerating; this bowl of egg and vegetable porridge looked plain, but it was actually extremely delicious, with a soft, glutinous, and sweet texture.

After dinner, the man put the dishes in the dishwasher, and the girl wanted to find something to do, so she took the vacuum cleaner and cleaned the living room.

"Little one, you don't need to do anything. The housekeeper will be here soon." The man came out of the kitchen.

The nanny and the housekeeper at Jinshan Villa are not the same person. The housekeeper comes to clean every morning.

Gu Zhaodi had no choice but to put the vacuum cleaner back; she really couldn't take over the housekeeper's job.

"Uncle Dan, is there anything you need me to do?" The girl blinked, her eyes filled with a look that seemed to be asking her to find something to do.

The man chuckled to himself, "Why are there kids who are so eager to find work?"

"Come to my study and read a book," Dan Anwen said after thinking for a moment. It seemed that only reading could calm her down.

"Huh?" The girl paused for a moment, her face showing an expression that said, "Are you sure?"

"Okay." The girl's tone was somewhat aggrieved.

The man's lips curled upwards; he really is an adorable little boy.

......

The residents of Jinshan Villa are quite far apart, but the New Year is a time for family reunions, and with relatives visiting each other, you can faintly hear the children playing in the neighboring houses.

The girl was completely absorbed in her books and was not disturbed by any noise. Even when she heard something in a daze, she just chuckled and let it pass.

She read several books in the room these past few days, each one enough to make the girl forget the unpleasantness of the previous days.

She was no longer as awkward at Uncle Dan's house as when she first arrived, and gradually adapted to the rhythm and lifestyle of Uncle Dan's house.

Sometimes Uncle Dan wouldn't eat at Jinshan Villa; he would bring food back with him, so she actually cooked very few times.

However, she fell deeply in love with Uncle Dan's study and would sit there reading whenever she had nothing to do.

In the warm afternoon sun, I would sit on the swing chair in the villa garden and watch the show. With the gentle warmth of the sun, I would exude a lazy and relaxed vibe.

"Little one?" Dan Anwen entered the garden carrying a box of desserts.

Watching the girl so engrossed in her book that she almost blended into the flowers in the garden, I suddenly realized that everything in the world was static.

"Hmm?" The man standing with his back to the sun twisted his sore neck.

Dan Anwen opened the dessert box and said casually, "Don't look at it now, let's have afternoon tea."

During this period, whenever the man went out and came back, he would bring the girl a small gift, sometimes food, sometimes toys.

The girl went from initially refusing to gradually giving up resistance; she was powerless to fight back because each attempt ended in failure.

When a man comes home, he always remembers that there is a child living in the house, and he can't help but want to bring something back to feed him.

It's like having a hungry little animal waiting for you to come home every day, looking at you expectantly, almost healing your mood for the whole day.

"What do you want to eat tonight?" Dan Anwen sat with his legs crossed on one side, flipping through the book the girl had just been reading.

Gu Zhaodi still had a dessert in her mouth, her rosy little tongue licking the residue from the corner of her lips, her eyes innocent and naive.

"I can eat anything, Uncle Dan, what would you like to eat?" The girl thought Dan Anwen wanted to order food.

To his surprise, the man shook his head, his voice indifferent, "I'll take you out to eat tonight, so what would you like to eat?"

The man stared intently at the girl, wanting a definite answer from her.

The girl blinked. What do you want to eat? She didn't seem to have anything she wanted to eat.

Seeing that the girl couldn't answer, Dan Anwen didn't press her. "It's cold, how about we go eat hot pot?"

Without having to think of an answer herself, the girl quickly nodded, afraid that the man would ask her what she wanted to eat next.

After finishing their dessert, the girl continued reading, while the man used his phone to handle business.

The garden was quiet, the golden sunset slanted down onto the girl's book, and colorful clouds broke through the clouds on the horizon.

Seeing that it was almost time, the two went back to the villa to get dressed, and the man drove the girl to a hot pot restaurant.

People flocked to the hot pot restaurant during the Chinese New Year, and Liu Lei usually handled the booking of private rooms. The man never expected the hot pot restaurant to be so popular.

"Can we eat in the lobby, little one?" The man frowned slightly, looking at the noisy environment inside the store.

The girl had no objections, but she didn't know if the man could tolerate such an environment.

"Uncle Dan, are you sure you can do it? I'm fine with anything." At this moment, the girl was unaware that she had stepped on a man's landmine.

Dan Anwen narrowed his long, narrow eyes and said in a light tone, "Little friend, you should never ask a man if he's capable or not."

Gu Zhaodi was puzzled. What was wrong with asking this?

Looking into the girl's clear and innocent eyes, the man sighed inwardly. She really was an innocent child.

"Let's go inside."

Dan Anwen didn't actually have to eat at this restaurant, but Shen Jiyang said that the food was very good and that children would like it.

Unexpectedly, the store was packed with people, and the entire lobby was full.

The two people received their number plates and waited for half an hour before they could sit down.

"Take a look and see what you'd like to eat?" The man handed the tablet to the girl.

Gu Zhaodi's eyes were almost dazzled by the wide array of dishes on the menu. She casually ordered two and then handed the tablet back to the man.

Dan Anwen took the tablet, glanced at the two vegetables the girl had ordered, and his thick eyebrows twitched up almost imperceptibly.

He didn't say much in the end, but tapped his fingertips on the tablet and ordered a variety of dishes.

"Little girl, would you like some spicy hot pot?" The man lifted his eyelids and looked at the girl.

The girl nodded obediently, her bright eyes sparkling.

The cuisine in Nan'an City is mainly light, while Lin'an City is known for its love of spicy food. Gu Jia is slightly different; although she doesn't eat spicy food often, the girl occasionally misses the stimulation on her tongue.

After Dan Anwen placed her order, the hot pot base and dishes were quickly served.

The bright red spicy broth, bubbling with chili oil and peppers, has a pungent, irritating smell, a stark contrast to the clear, watery broth broth next to it.

Seeing the girl's hissing breaths, the man casually handed her the drink in front of him.

"Thank you, Uncle Dan." The girl's rosy lips touched the rim of the cup, and after taking two large gulps of her drink, she thanked the man.

Her red lips, stimulated by the spicy hot pot, became even more alluring, and her moist eyes were lively and seductive; the girl was beautiful without even realizing it.

Dan Anwen watched as tears welled up in her eyes from the spiciness, and she was even scooping vegetables out of the hot pot. For a moment, she wondered if the health-preserving hot pot she had ordered was not good.

After thinking for a moment, the man's well-defined knuckles reached for the spicy hot pot. Looking at the meat coated in red oil, the man hesitated for a moment.

As Gu Zhaodi ate, she noticed that Uncle Dan was also looking at the spicy pot. She was a little curious about how men eat spicy food. She had eaten with him so many times, but she had never seen him touch chili peppers.

Seeing the girl's wet eyes staring at him, Dan Anwen couldn't leave the piece of meat on the plate, so he had no choice but to bite into it and chew.

The man swallowed the slice of meat expressionlessly, and the girl stopped looking at him. She thought he would spit it out, since she found the dish spicy.

Dan Anwen sensed the girl's gaze shift away, and his previously normal facial expression instantly froze, his eyes slightly reddened, and his gentle eyes behind his glasses became slightly bloodshot.

The man calmly took a sip of water, and his agitated internal organs finally calmed down. The spicy hot pot really was so spicy it hurt his heart and lungs.

The man didn't touch the spicy hot pot once after that, and only went to pay the bill and go home after the girl had eaten her fill.

In the middle of the night, the girl curled up in the gray quilt, fine beads of sweat appearing on her smooth forehead, and weak groans seeping from between her tightly closed teeth.

Finally, the cramping pain in her stomach woke the girl from her sleep. The bloating and cramping in her abdomen made her think that it was caused by eating too much spicy hot pot that night.

The pain was so intense that Gu Zhaodi had no choice but to get up and go downstairs to get a glass of warm water. Her legs felt weak as she got out of bed, but she forced herself to go downstairs with all her might.
