Chapter 4 Moves
"I'm not a bad person," Dan Anwen said calmly, assuming the girl was afraid he was a bad person.
Gu Zhaodi waved her hand somewhat flusteredly and said, "No, that's not what I meant. I just didn't want to trouble you."
You can tell a man's background is extraordinary just by looking at his noble demeanor and attire.
What's the point of deceiving yourself? You have neither talent nor beauty.
It's more likely that I'm lying to him.
Seeing the girl hesitate, the man added, "If you walk past in this temperature, you'll faint on the road."
The girl's clear eyes stared into the man's dark, deep eyes, sensing the kindness emanating from them. The care from a stranger made her nod as if possessed.
Even after getting into the car, I was still in a daze and hadn't reacted at all.
She was still in a daze, and Liu Lei in the passenger seat was also completely bewildered. What was going on?
Am I blind? Or am I out of my mind?
The CEO actually brought a girl into the car?
Is this girl still a minor? Does the CEO have this kind of fetish?
Feeling like he had figured out the truth, Assistant Liu touched his slightly cold arm, fearing he might be silenced.
"Liu Lei, what are you looking at?" Dan Anwen asked, looking at Liu Lei's ever-changing expression in the mirror.
Liu Lei quickly shook his head and then looked out the window.
The girl's entire body was tense, with her legs together, hands on her lap, and back straight, looking just like a well-behaved child who listened to her teacher.
Dan Anwen sighed almost imperceptibly, took a bottle of ice water from the car refrigerator next to the seat, and handed it to her.
Gu Zhaodi's palm was startled by the cold steam from the bottle. Coming back to her senses, she nodded to the man, "Thank you."
As the cool mineral water went down her throat, she immediately felt her body relax from the inside out, and her eyes became clear.
The car was completely silent the entire way; no one spoke, and the only sound was the soft breathing of everyone.
Within a few tens of minutes, the car stopped at the entrance of Nan'an Middle School.
Gu Zhaodi thanked him, and only after the car drove away did she take a look at the middle school with a century-old history.
Contrary to expectations of a traditional, antique style, modern architecture comes into view, with the grand gate standing at the school entrance showcasing its imposing grandeur.
After explaining the situation to the gatekeeper, I entered the school smoothly. Since school hadn't started yet, there were almost no people on campus, but this made it easier to appreciate the scenery of the campus.
Unlike the rest of Nan'an City, the trees lining the roads here are not the famous sycamores, but tall and straight evergreen pines, symbolizing resilience and tenacity, and displaying a noble spirit, which is very much in line with the hard work and perseverance of high school.
Just then, from inside the car that had already driven far away, a man's voice rang out: "Did Nan'an Middle School start school today?"
Liu Lei immediately responded, "School starts tomorrow, not today, but you can move into the school dormitory in advance."
He figured the CEO was probably asking about the girl from earlier, and as a competent assistant, he should answer her questions to the best of his ability.
The man lowered his eyes and instructed in a low voice, "Make sure Dan Si arrives at school on time tomorrow."
"Yes." Liu Lei nodded.
The car quickly moved forward with the flow of traffic.
Pushing open the dormitory door on the third floor, the room was clean and tidy. It was a standard four-person dormitory with bunk beds and desks underneath. The dormitory had been cleaned and there wasn't a speck of dust.
After finding her bed, Gu Zhaodi began to tidy up her things.
She had never lived in a dormitory before, but she helped Lin Hua with chores at home, so she was very efficient at tidying up.
Just as she was about to finish tidying up, she heard the sound of a doorknob turning, and a person wearing a white T-shirt came in.
When he saw Gu Zhaodi, he scanned her from head to toe, his eyes scrutinizing her.
Unlike her gaze, her tone was very enthusiastic, "My name is Li Mu, I'm your roommate, what's your name?"
Gu Zhaodi didn't really like the feeling she gave off, but thinking that it was their first meeting and she shouldn't judge a person by their eyes, she smiled and introduced herself, "Hello, I'm Gu Zhaodi."
"My God, there are still people named Zhao Di in the 21st century." Li Mu exaggeratedly covered his mouth, looking at her in shock, his tone sharp.
Then, as if unaware of the situation, she pressed Gu Zhaodi for an answer, asking, "Did your parents name you this because they wanted a son?"
Gu Zhaodi glanced at her indifferently, without responding.
It's not that Gu Zhaodi can't accept her name; she's become immune to it, having heard similar comments countless times since childhood.
She just felt that this roommate was not easy to get along with, and that she should avoid contact with her in the future.
Seeing that Gu Zhaodi did not respond, Li Mu awkwardly shut his mouth and went to tidy up his personal belongings.
The sky was pitch black, and the entire campus was shrouded in darkness. Gu Zhaodi, lying on her bed, was wide awake, staring blankly at the ceiling, while Li Mu next to her was snoring and fast asleep.
I originally thought that if I saved money, I could cover my living expenses for three months, but after seeing the prices here, even with careful budgeting, it would only last for two months. It seems I need to find a job as soon as possible.
Fortunately, I started school a year later than others and was already sixteen years old, so I could go to work. Otherwise, I would have starved to death here.
As she pondered these thoughts, the girl drifted off to sleep, and slept without a dream.
Class 1 of Grade 11 was noisy. Many of the students had come from the affiliated junior high school of Nan'an Middle School and knew each other to some extent.
"Have you heard? Dan Si is in our class." A group of girls in the corner were discussing the new gossip.
"Yeah, yeah, I just checked the list, and I didn't expect the school bully to be in this class."
“I told my best friend that I was in the same class as him, and she was so envious of me.”
At this moment, another girl curled her lip and said, "What's so great about the school bully? The school heartthrob is in this class too. He's the real dream guy."
"You like the school heartthrob Ji Hao?" a girl asked gossipingly.
"What's wrong with liking someone? He's gentle and academically gifted, who wouldn't like him?"
"Then you'd better watch out for Deng Xixue. She's liked Ji Hao for several years now, and anyone who gets close to him gets warned."
At this point, as if remembering something, the girl shut her mouth.
Gu Zhaodi sat at the second-to-last table, listening to the people in front of her discussing Dan Si and Ji Hao, two prominent figures at the school. She didn't care much; she just needed to focus on her studies, since she wouldn't have any contact with them anyway.
"Hello, may I sit next to you?"
Gu Zhaodi was staring out the window in a daze when a sweet, soft voice reached her ears, making her feel happy.
Looking back, I realized that her voice was just like her personality, and she was also a very cute person with long, straight black hair draped over her shoulders and a gentle smile on her round face.
"You can sit down, there's no one here."
This morning, Li Mu wanted to sit with her, but she declined his offer.
"Thank you, sister." Guan Xiang didn't notice that she spoke with a tomboyish accent.
A hint of surprise flashed in Gu Zhaodi's eyes. Could it be that the loli voice just now was an illusion?
The person opposite probably noticed too, chuckled, and then sat down.
Now that she had been exposed, Guan Xiang no longer concealed her personality. After putting away her things, she took the initiative to chat with Gu Zhaodi.
"Hello, my name is Guan Xiang." The girl extended her hand to Gu Zhaodi.
Gu Zhaodi was taken aback. No one had ever greeted her like this before. She shook hands with him and said softly, "Hello, my name is Gu Zhaodi."
"Then I'll call you Zhaozhao from now on," Guan Xiang said with a friendly smile.
When people hear this name, they are usually surprised for a moment. Even if they don't say it to your face out of politeness, they will definitely talk about it behind your back.
But Guan Xiang wasn't surprised at all. Instead, she grabbed Gu Zhaodi's hand and asked her where she was from.
My home is in Lin'an City.
"Lin'an City? What a coincidence, my maternal grandmother's home is also in Lin'an City."
Guan Xiang gives people the feeling of meeting an old friend in a foreign land, but she is actually from Nan'an City.
Then they began a question-and-answer session.
During the conversation, it was learned that Guan Xiang and Gu Zhaodi lived in the same dormitory.
Gu Zhaodi also learned that Guan Xiang was a sweet-looking girl with a carefree personality. She exuded the youthful energy of a high school student, like the rising sun.
