Chapter 48 Wilderness Survival
The three boys who were still walking ahead turned their heads to look at the two girls.
"Are you still able to climb?" Yao Xin asked with a worried look. "If you really can't, you can let us carry your bags."
The girl looked at the large, heavy bags on Yao Xin and the others' backs and shook her head. "You're already carrying enough heavy stuff."
The boys were carrying tents, sleeping bags, stoves, and other heavy items on their backs.
"Let's rest here for a while." Dan Si put down the things on his back and sat down on a rock nearby.
"But..." Fang Yuan was stopped by Yao Xin before he could speak.
Their group was actually walking relatively slowly, and they had already lost sight of the other groups in the class, with only a few scattered members occasionally catching up from behind.
"Have some water first." The girl handed out bottled water from her bag to everyone.
After drinking the water, Guan Xiang regained some energy and said angrily, "This is not the spring outing I imagined. I thought I would be able to wear a pretty dress and take beautiful pictures, but I didn't expect to be exhausted from climbing mountains."
"Luckily I wasn't wearing a skirt." The girl was clearly thinking about the skirt Guan Xiang had offered to buy for her last month.
Guan Xiang chuckled, "It's just that the information was inaccurate."
The boy couldn't understand what the two girls were talking about, so he could only listen to them talk quietly, and then the three of them just stared at each other blankly.
After resting for a while, the group started climbing the mountain again.
The higher you climb, the more thorns appear on the path, sometimes snagging on your clothes and interrupting your progress.
Gu Zhaodi and her group walked and stopped frequently, finally reaching the mountaintop before noon.
Old Lin had been waiting for them at the end of the mountain path. Seeing that they had safely reached the summit, his tense heart relaxed in an instant.
Unlike the students who climbed the mountain, the other teachers, except for the accompanying teacher, took the cable car to the top of the mountain. So Lao Lin was waiting here early and kept the students in line.
Fengshan is not high, and the mountain road is gentle, but unexpected situations can still occur.
"You guys should hurry up and find a place to pitch your tents," Old Lin said to them.
Standing at the end of the mountain road, you can see the mountains and villages at the foot of Fengshan Mountain.
Fengshan is located in the suburbs of Nan'an City. When viewed from above, everything at the foot of the mountain seems to be in its original state. Although it doesn't offer a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, it is enough to broaden one's mind.
Many students took out their phones to take selfies or photograph the scenery around them.
Gu Zhaodi looked around and found that the central area of the campsite was occupied, so she could only pitch her tent on the side.
"Let's do it here." The girl pointed to a spot in the distance, which happened to be next to Li Mu's group of tents.
Next, the three boys easily and quickly set up the two tents they had brought.
Gu Zhaodi, who was packing her things, widened her eyes in surprise and said, "You guys are so fast?"
“That’s right.” Yao Xin patted the dust off his hands, his tone slightly arrogant. “Our Brother Dan used to work in the military, setting up a tent is nothing to him.”
"Military camp?" The girl raised an eyebrow.
Just as Yao Xin was about to say something, Fang Yuan called him over from a distance to fetch water.
Not far from the campsite, there is a clear, natural mountain spring with a slightly sweet taste.
Later, the girl learned from Dan Anwen that his grandfather used to be a military region commander, and since then, his family has had a tradition of sending younger generations to military camps for training.
After the girl finished tidying up the items on the ground, Guan Xiang and Dan Si, who had gone out to collect firewood, returned each carrying a pile of dry firewood.
"This is wilderness survival, isn't it?" Guan Xiangsheng said, utterly dejected.
With a loud thud, the pile of firewood was thrown to the ground, and dust instantly filled the air, causing people to cough uncontrollably.
Just now, Mr. Lin confiscated all the snacks from the whole class and only gave each group basic ingredients, claiming that homemade food is the most delicious.
No one expected that a perfectly good spring outing would turn into a "survival in the wilderness" exercise. The school's explanation was that it was meant to test the students' willpower.
But this is ridiculous! They pulled this stunt right at the top of the mountain, catching everyone completely off guard.
The girl removed the grass from Guan Xiang's hair. "Xiang Xiang, you should rest for a while."
Guan Xiang sat down on the ground without minding the dirt. If the girl hadn't stopped her, she would have just lay down on the lawn.
"Zhao Zhao, I'm hungry." Guan Xiang patted her little belly, her cravings already awakened.
The nearly two-hour hike through the mountains had consumed Guan Xiang's breakfast, leaving her with only the thought of eating.
"I'll cook." Gu Zhaodi knew that none of them knew how to cook, and they probably had never even been in a kitchen before.
The school didn't go too far; at least they set up a simple stove for each group, along with a bunch of pots and pans.
Looking at the stove, which was even rougher than the one in her own home, the girl was a little at a loss and could only start the fire first.
"Cough cough cough," thick smoke billowed out, choking the girl and making her move away from the stove.
At this moment, Ji Hao walked over with a smile, bent down and said to the girl, "Gu Zhaodi, let me help you start a fire."
The girl visibly stiffened upon hearing his voice, without even raising her head, and said in a rather cold tone, "No need, it's already up."
The sparks on the small stove ignited, but they produced thick smoke.
Before Ji Hao could speak again, Deng Xixue, who was not far away, called out, "Ji Hao, come here quickly, the fire is about to go out again."
Not only Deng Xixue was calling him, but several other groups also called their class leader over.
Ji Hao had just helped several groups start fires, but they were all pampered children, and many of them had difficulty keeping the fire burning.
Watching Ji Hao walk away, the girl's tense body slowly relaxed. Now, whenever she sees Ji Hao, she is reminded of his animal abuse.
"Zhao Zhao, the vegetables are all washed." Guan Xiang placed a basket of water-drenched ingredients on the mat.
The girl glanced at it and thought it was fairly clean.
"I'll chop the vegetables," Yao Xin volunteered, popping up from the side.
After completing a series of preparations, the girl began to show off her skills.
Before long, the aroma wafted from the pot, especially the tender and juicy braised pork, which was incredibly tempting. Its color and fragrance were enough to make those around it salivate.
After preparing all the dishes, Gu Zhaodi and the others laid out mats and prepared to eat.
Unlike their group's dishes, the other groups' dishes were either undercooked, burnt, or even had sugar mistakenly added salt, resulting in an indescribable taste.
The pampered young masters and young ladies, who were usually spoiled, fell into deep thought as they looked at the dishes in front of them. In particular, the aroma of meat emanating from Gu Zhaodi's group made their already rumbling stomachs even more uncomfortable.
"It's so delicious, Zhao Zhao!" Guan Xiang praised with a satisfied look, giving the girl a thumbs up repeatedly.
"Mmm-hmm-hmm." Yao Xin nodded frantically, her mouth full of food, unable to speak.
Even the usually lazy and aloof Dan Si was quietly eating his rice without showing any sign of being picky.
For Fang Yuan, a barbecue enthusiast, he never expected that the girl's cooking skills were so good. Last time he had a barbecue, he only witnessed her ability to start a fire.
Seeing that they enjoyed the food she cooked, a faint smile appeared on the girl's lips. In the past, apart from her younger brother Gu Bao, no one in the Gu family had ever praised her cooking.
Seeing that Gu Zhaodi's group was already enjoying their meal, some other groups couldn't contain their excitement.
Finally, a girl who had some connection with Gu Zhaodi came to find her.
"Gu Zhaodi, could you help our group cook some dishes?" The girl looked at the food on the ground and silently swallowed the saliva in her mouth.
Gu Zhaodi had almost finished eating, and seeing that the girl looked like she was about to faint from hunger, she nodded in agreement.
"Sure," the girl said, and stood up.
When the girl succeeded, her classmates all ran over and begged her to cook for them.
"Gu Zhaodi, our group would also like to ask for your help."
"And us too."
"We had the same problem; that dish just wouldn't cook through."
Seeing everyone surrounding her, the girl looked somewhat embarrassed.
This is too much! How long will it take to finish?
Guan Xiang noticed the girl's predicament and put down her chopsticks, saying, "You all asked Zhao Zhao to cook, but didn't you consider whether she would be tired?"
"But......"
Obviously, everyone realized that since only the girl in the class knew how to cook, all the cooking duties would fall to her.
