(eleven)
The man in black listened silently, staring at Ye Wenyu without saying a word. Time seemed to pass slowly, perhaps because he was exceptionally handsome and had been gazing at her for too long. Wenyu lowered her head in embarrassment, her cheeks slightly flushed, her heart pounding like a drum. At the same time, she felt a pang of regret, realizing she shouldn't have confided in a man she had just met.
She was still too naive in front of a mature man!
The man in black suddenly said, "Other 19-year-old girls are still worrying about which dress to wear to the banquet, but you—you really have it tough."
A stranger's sympathetic words almost brought tears to Ye Wenyu's eyes again. She lowered her head, quickly wiped away her tears, stood up from the swing, and said to the man in black, "It's getting late, I have to go back."
The man in black also stood up and smiled at her, "It seems too early to leave now. Would you like to go into the banquet?" He looked at the brightly lit banquet hall, where music could be heard, probably from dancing.
Ye Wenyu immediately shook his head.
The man in black smiled and said gently to her, "I don't want to go in either. How about—" He glanced at the crescent moon overhead and asked her for her opinion, "Let's take a walk. The Lin family is famously wealthy. It's said that this garden was designed by a renowned designer. Let's admire it." Although he tried to control his tone, a hint of pride still lingered.
Ye Wenyu, however, failed to detect the smugness in his tone. A sarcastic smile appeared on her face, and she scoffed, saying to the man in black, "Designed by a famous designer? Haha, my designs would be better than this!"
The man in black raised an eyebrow and after a long pause said, "Oh, really? Then tell me, what's wrong with it?"
Ye Wenyu said to him, "Come with me." She then walked forward, and the man in black followed behind her curiously, wondering what secrets she could come up with.
Ye Wenyu led the man in black through the flowers and willows, past the pavilion, and across the stone bridge. At this moment, the moonlight was like water, illuminating the world with crystal clarity. The exceptionally tall and sturdy fir trees stood towering into the sky. Looking up from under the fir trees, the moonlight was sparse and bright, white and bright, like the remaining snow.
The dark bushes resembled lurking giants. Birds in the bushes, unable to sleep from the music at the banquet, began to sing. Their voices were very beautiful, and Ye Wenyu thought they were probably nightingales from fairy tales.
The night dew was glistening, and soon it wet her hair and trouser legs, forming glistening dewdrops on the large, palm-shaped leaves of the Water Drop Guanyin, sparkling in the moonlight.
White mist formed on the lake surface, drifting gently with the evening breeze like a light veil.
Everything felt so unreal, like a dream; everything was so beautiful, like a fantasy. In the distance, streetlights twinkled, and music played softly. Nearby, she and he were.
Ye Wenyu walked to the huge lawn. Behind her stood the curious middle-aged man, who was two heads taller than her, standing there like a giant. He touched his chin with one hand, and his clothes were also wet with dew. His eyes were as crystal clear and bright as dew.
Ye Wenyu said to him, "Look, isn't this lawn beautiful? It's been trimmed very neatly and is very well maintained. I think even in America, it would be hard to find such a beautiful lawn. If all the villas in America were to have a lawn competition, the Lin family's lawn would definitely win first place."
The man in black stroked his chin and said with certainty, "Of course. But you—" She had just said that the garden design was poor.
A big question mark rose in his mind as he looked at the quirky girl. This was the first time he had been aroused by a young girl who was still quite immature.
Ye Wenyu took a few more steps forward, pointed to the fountain and said to him, "Look at this fountain, there are little angels and the goddess Venus in it, isn't it beautiful?"
"Of course, but you—"
The confusion and bewilderment in my heart only deepened.
Ye Wenyu glanced at him, a mischievous smile appearing on her lips. She took three steps at a time, walked around the lawn, and stood in front of the artificial hill she had passed earlier. She said to the man in black following behind her, "Look at this artificial hill. There's a pavilion, a stone bridge, and benches nearby, and it even has big, beautiful koi fish, isn't it?"
"Yes." The man in black looked even more confused. She had previously designed the garden very poorly, but when she showed him around, she was full of praise.
Ye Wenyu stood between the lawn and the rockery, pointing to the lawn with one finger and saying, "This is a Western-style garden." Pointing to the rockery with the other finger, she said, "This is a Chinese-style garden."
The man in black looked at her silently, and gradually he began to understand.
No one ever dared to speak ill of the Lin family gardens in front of him.
Ye Wenyu said with an air of superiority, "Both styles of gardens, if unified, would be top-notch. But the owner of this house has mixed them together, a hodgepodge of East and West, a complete mess, it's laughable! Anyone with a little common sense would secretly laugh at the owner for having no taste, for being a nouveau riche, hahaha, hahaha, so what if he's rich? His aesthetic sense is absolutely terrible!"
She burst into laughter, bending over with mirth in the bright moonlight.
The man in black stared at her silently. At first, he had a stern face, suppressing the rising anger, but when he saw the young and beautiful girl laughing so hard that her anger miraculously disappeared, and the corners of his mouth began to turn up.
After Ye Wenyu finished laughing, he nodded and slowly said, "You're right, this is indeed a tasteless nouveau riche."
