Chapter 20 Her Brother Wen

(20) Her Brother Wen

"Hey—" Cai Wenchuan responded with a smile, but seeing the girl's tears suddenly welling up, flowing like a tap that had been turned on, he couldn't help but be a little surprised. Although it was a long-awaited reunion, was it really necessary to cry like this? Was it a bit too exaggerated, or was the girl in front of him as deeply in love with him as he was? For a moment, Cai Wenchuan's heart was filled with surprise, emotion, and some doubt.

He didn't know that Ye Wenyu was experiencing such mixed feelings of joy and sorrow because she was recalling her past life.

Cai Wenchuan was confused for a moment, then thought he understood. He figured she must have suffered a lot to be so excited to see him. A young girl, only 19 years old, suddenly told that she had no home and no money. In fact, Xiaoyu's life had always been hard. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she had lived a poor life with her single mother. Many people said that things would get better when she grew up, but now that she was 18 and an adult, fate was telling her that her future life would be even harder! Kids her age were still playing on their phones all day, thinking about what pretty clothes to buy and where to go shopping.

Therefore, he reached out and gently grasped Ye Wenyu's small hand hanging by her side. Immediately, as if he had been electrocuted, his palm became burning hot. He had no choice but to release her with a slight blush. After calming himself down, he said to her, "It's okay. I know about your situation. Your mother told me everything. With Brother Wen here, don't worry."

Hearing this, Ye Wenyu was stunned. She raised her head, stopped crying, and felt shocked and ashamed. Did her mother take the initiative to call her brother Wen and tell him about her family situation, asking him to take care of her? But his family and her family had no blood relation whatsoever, not even relatives. If her mother really did this, it was a bit too much.

As Wen Yu thought of this, her heart sank like a stone.

Cai Wenchuan said to Wenyu, "Let's talk as we walk. People keep staring at us if we stand here." Only then did Ye Wenyu realize that many people were indeed watching them. Whenever students passed by and spotted her and Brother Wen, they would stop and start gossiping and pointing at them.

Why is that? Why do they seem like stars in the center of the stage?

Ye Wenyu was a little confused. A big question mark rose in her mind.

She had something to ask her brother Wen. The two hadn't seen each other for many years, so she wanted to chat more. Therefore, Ye Wenyu nodded, and the two of them walked slowly along the shady path lined with magnolia trees. The crescent moon followed them and cast long shadows beside them. The green bushes of privet flowers stood in two neat rows. Everything was quiet, but from time to time, sparrows or cuckoos would fly out from the bushes. Everything was extremely beautiful.

Unable to suppress her suspicions and unease, Ye Wenyu stopped when they reached a secluded spot, where no one was watching them. She called out, "Brother Wen—"

Cai Wenchuan stopped and turned around, smiling at her. He was so warm; just standing in front of her made her feel like she was basking in a spring breeze. Ye Wenyu mustered her courage and asked him, "Did my mom call you?" She was uneasy. If her mother really did that, she would have a problem with her.

Cai Wenchuan laughed and said to her, "No, I guessed you were going to college, so I found your parents' phone number and called to ask. That's how I found out you got into Q University." In fact, he had overheard his parents talking about her mother remarrying and neglecting her, which made him vow to find her.

Upon hearing this, Ye Wenyu's head buzzed. She paused, glanced at Cai Wenchuan, and saw him smiling and gazing at her. Suddenly, her face flushed, so she quickly lowered her head.

Good heavens, does what he said mean that he has always cared about her and paid attention to her?

She grew up with Wen-gege, who was ten years older than her. So, from childhood to adulthood, he was the one who took care of her. When she was in kindergarten, many times her mother was working overtime at the factory and couldn't pick her up, so Wen-gege would pick her up like a little adult. When she was in elementary school, her mother didn't have much education and couldn't help her with her homework, so Wen-gege, who was in high school, would help her with it. When she was in junior high school, Wen-gege went to university, but he would come back to see her whenever he had a break.

Her parents divorced early, and she only had her mother as family. However, in her heart, Brother Wen was the closest person to her besides her mother, even more important than her family.

She had liked him since she was a child, and even made a wish in her heart that when she grew up, she would confess her feelings to Brother Wen, and if Brother Wen liked her too, she would marry him.

She had thought that the days with Brother Wen would last forever, until she grew up. But when she was in the second year of junior high school, the Cai family moved away. Brother Wen said goodbye to her with reluctance, and then she never heard from him again.

Mom told her that Uncle Cai found a high-paying and good job, so he moved away. She wanted to call Uncle Cai to find out about Brother Wen, but Mom said that once when she called Uncle Cai, he hung up as soon as he answered. She said, "His family is rich now. People always strive for better things, and water flows downhill. They must look down on us because we're poor. Rich people don't want to bother with poor friends. Xiaoyu, don't call again."

Ye Wenyu was heartbroken, but she firmly believed that her brother Wen wasn't that kind of person and would never forget her, his poor friend. However, her mother's words ultimately had an impact on her. She didn't call Uncle Cai in the end. Later, whether intentionally or unintentionally, the Cai family's contact information disappeared from the Ye family's home, and the two families completely lost contact.
