Uncle Wang was so anxious that he was sweating profusely. He lowered his voice and said to Zhang Susu, "Let's go to the side and talk."
Ye Wenyu then realized that Uncle Wang hadn't left the table to go to the restroom, but to pay the bill at the front desk. However, judging from his appearance, he probably didn't have enough money on him, since she had brought them to a five-star hotel.
Uncle Wang meant well, but she didn't tell them beforehand that she was treating them, which embarrassed him.
Ye Wenyu felt a pang of guilt.
Zhang Susu was pulled aside by her husband. Uncle Wang said something, and Zhang Susu exclaimed in fright, "What? Two thousand yuan for just a few dishes? Are they crazy?!"
The sound was shrill, two decibels louder than usual, attracting the attention of the restaurant staff and other guests, who all turned to look.
Ye Wenyu didn't want herself and her family to become monkeys for a circus to amuse people, so she immediately went over, took her mother's hand, and gestured for her not to make a fuss. Then she waved to the waiter and said, "Check, please." The waiter initially came over with a suspicious look and even a somewhat disdainful attitude, as if he would call the police if they couldn't pay. But as soon as Ye Wenyu handed the waiter a card, the waiter's expression immediately changed. He bowed and scraped, and soon respectfully handed over the card, telling them that the bill had been settled.
Zhang Susu was once again dumbfounded.
My daughter has become so capable! She's nothing like the child Zhang Susu raised; she's practically a princess from another country!
Uncle Wang said embarrassedly, "Wenyu, this bill should be paid by your uncle. I haven't properly thanked you for the money you lent me for my hospital stay, so how could I let you pay? But I never expected a meal to cost so much, and I didn't have enough cash on me. Oh dear, I've made a fool of myself." Uncle Wang's face was flushed with embarrassment, and under the lights of the five-star hotel, it shone like paint.
Ye Wenyu said politely, "Uncle Wang, you're too kind. I know you treat my mother very well, and she is very happy now. So, as long as you continue to treat my mother well in the future, that will be enough to thank me."
Uncle Wang nodded repeatedly, indicating that he would definitely do it.
Ye Wenyu stood up, smiled at them, and said, "Mom, Uncle Wang, I bought a house not far away. Let me show you."
Zhang Susu was once again stunned and bewildered. How could someone so young afford a house? She was still a student and didn't have a job to earn money. Where did she get the money? In adult society, money flows like water, and hard-earned savings always disappear without you realizing it. But making money is like catching a ghost; sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can only earn enough to barely make ends meet.
However, her curiosity burned even brighter, and her questions, like the bean sprouts she grew at home in the summer, all popped up at once in a short period of time. Zhang Susu nodded, exchanged a glance with Lao Wang, and then followed Ye Wenyu to the neighborhood where she bought her house.
As soon as she stepped into the community, seeing the top-notch property management, landscaping, security, and cleaning, Zhang Susu began to exclaim in admiration. She couldn't believe that such a wonderful and upscale community existed in the world, and that people actually lived in such a garden-like environment!
Ye Wenyu smiled and led them up in the elevator, then used a combination lock to open the door to her home and showed them around.
Zhang Susu remained wide-eyed in shock throughout, constantly making "tsk tsk" sounds of amazement. She clapped her hands repeatedly, exclaiming, "Such a big house, such a big house, such a big house!"
Ye Wenyu was bursting with a sense of presence and accomplishment. She happily said, "Mom, this is my home now. You don't have to worry about me not having a home anymore. So, you can live a peaceful life with Uncle Wang from now on. Look, I'm taking good care of myself."
Uncle Wang nodded repeatedly.
Zhang Susu smiled slightly, her face full of pride and joy. Ye Wenyu's face also turned red with happiness, like a beautiful rose, because of Zhang Susu's expression.
But a few minutes later, shock and hesitation appeared on Zhang Susu's face. A mother's rationality finally prevailed, and she sensed that something was wrong.
So when it was time to leave, she said to Lao Wang, "Honey, why don't you go for a walk around the neighborhood and broaden your horizons, see how rich people live? I have some private things I'd like to talk to you and your daughter alone."
Old Wang wisely left.
Only Zhang Susu and Ye Wenyu remained in the room. Wenyu brewed jasmine tea for her mother and invited her to sit on the large, beautiful terrace, where the entire city of S lay at her feet.
Zhang Susu glanced at it, immediately closed her eyes, held her head with her hand, and said to her, "Oh dear, it's like being an immortal. I'm poor, I can't be an immortal. I'm scared just looking at it, it makes me dizzy!"
Ye Wenyu laughed and said to her, "Mom, you'll get used to it after a few days. These days, big bosses and rich people all live in high-rise buildings. There's a reason why they like to live high up. Look, the air is especially fresh, the breeze is especially cool, and even the view is exceptionally wide, giving you a feeling of being high above."
After a few minutes of adjustment, Zhang Susu's dizziness subsided, and she immediately began to enjoy herself. She said with a grin, "That's right, it's like being a fairy, and the sunshine is especially nice, and it's so quiet."
Ye Wenyu smiled and said, "Of course, when a person has money, it's like a caterpillar gaining beautiful wings and turning into a gorgeous butterfly. Money has many benefits."
But Zhang Susu suddenly said, "Daughter, tell Mom the truth, what exactly happened?"
Ye Wenyu was stunned and fell silent for a moment.
Zhang Susu looked suspicious. She slowly asked, "Mom is worried about you. You're a young girl. I've neglected you. It's good enough that you can support yourself. You can't possibly earn that much money. I could never afford a house like this in my entire life. How can you afford one at such a young age?"
Ye Wenyu blushed. She had decided to bring her mother to visit the house because she was happy and wanted to share her joy with her, but now she regretted it.
Because the mother had already noticed something was wrong.
Ye Wenyu hesitated for a moment before saying, "My boyfriend bought it, gave it to me as a gift."
Boyfriend? Zhang Susu looked up and asked her, "You have a boyfriend?"
Ye Wenyu nodded.
"Have you lost your virginity?"
Ye Wenyu blushed and immediately shook her head.
Zhang Susu breathed a sigh of relief, but then smiled again, though with a hint of bitterness in her eyes. She gently asked her daughter, "You just said that he bought this house as a gift for you?"
Ye Wenyu nodded again.
Are you sure you're telling the truth?
"Yes, my name is on the property certificate."
"Go and bring me the property certificate so I can take a look."
Ye Wenyu got up to get the property certificate.
