This was the first time Ye Wenyu had called Jiang Zhiming "Zhiming". Jiang Zhiming was very happy, feeling that her voice was as beautiful as music. His heart was as sweet as if he had eaten honey. He said gently, "No need to thank me. I am much more sensible now and much more capable. If you need any help in the future, just say so. Wenyu, believe me, the difficulties are only temporary."
Ye Wenyu nodded, said goodbye to Jiang Zhiming, and then returned to the girls' dormitory. Jiang Zhiming, on the other hand, seemed preoccupied and stood outside her dormitory for a long time, like a piece of wood.
In the days that followed, Ye Wenyu stayed in the girls' dormitory to recover from her injury. She didn't go to class or work. Her leg injury wasn't serious, and she believed she would recover in three to five days.
So she basically doesn't bother her roommates or Jiang Zhiming.
Although Jiang Zhiming promised not to contact her again, he called her early the next morning. Ye Wenyu saw the call and was very annoyed and unhappy, so she didn't answer. She was determined to draw a clear line between them, but Jiang Zhiming's actions were blurring that line.
She had class at eight in the morning, and her roommates had all gone to class with their backpacks. The dormitory was quiet, so quiet that she could hear herself breathing. She had become numb to skipping classes, so she didn't even think about going. The weather had just cleared up and the floodwaters had receded, but some areas were still muddy. If she limped to class and fell outside, it would be a pipe dream for her to recover in three to five days. So she didn't plan to go to class.
The dormitory was dark. She placed her bandaged leg on a chair, then picked up her textbook and started reading. With the experience from her previous life, she was confident that even if she didn't attend class, she wouldn't fail the final exam by flipping through the textbook. Jiang Zhiming's phone kept ringing, spinning on the desk like a squeaking animal. Ye Wenyu glanced at it, then glanced at it again, and finally hung up on it all.
Helpless, Jiang Zhiming's text message came in. The phone beeped a few times, and Ye Wenyu picked it up and saw that it read, "Xiaoyu, I'm outside your dormitory. You have class, right? I'll carry you to the classroom."
Ye Wenyu was somewhat stunned, thinking about Jiang Zhiming! What exactly did he mean to her? He clearly has a beautiful and wealthy girlfriend now, his future is bright and promising, he clearly owes Lin Tingyue so much kindness, he is clearly no longer idealistic and aloof, but has become a realistic and intelligent person, so why did he still go to her dormitory and insist on carrying her to class?
Why are the things he does so different from his usual calm and rational self?
Ye Wenyu's face was tense, and she was so angry that it turned pale.
What would Lin Tingyue think if she knew about this? Women in love are often crazy, like tigresses, intolerant of even the slightest imperfection. She didn't want Lin Tingyue to see her as a rival. The Lin family was powerful and influential, with connections as intricate as a towering tree. Since Jiang Zhiming could use the Lin family's connections to help her regain her status as a student from a poor family, if Lin Tingyue got angry and wanted to deal with her, it would be as easy as crushing an ant. Her life was already very difficult; she didn't want to create another powerful enemy and add a heavy burden to her life.
Therefore, Ye Wenyu coldly replied, "No need, you can go. I'm feeling a bit unwell, I'm not going to class."
She sent the message, and Jiang Zhiming stopped sending messages. Half an hour passed, and the phone remained silent. Ye Wenyu looked up from her textbook and glanced out the window. From her dormitory window, she could see the girls' dormitory entrance below, so if she went to the window, she could find out if Jiang Zhiming had left. However, she didn't care about him, so she didn't care about the outcome.
Just then, her phone rang again. Ye Wenyu was quite surprised to find it was a call from within the campus. She answered the phone, and a warm voice came through: "Ye Wenyu, this is the student affairs office—"
It was actually the student affairs office calling her. Ye Wenyu raised one eyebrow, her heart pounding in her throat. She held her breath and listened quietly.
The student affairs office leader said, "After investigation, we found that you meet our school's criteria for applying for a student status for financial aid. Therefore, we have reinstated your status as a student for financial aid and revoked the previous disciplinary action against you. From now on, your tuition and dormitory fees for your sophomore year will be waived, and you will receive a corresponding food allowance on your meal card every month."
Ye Wenyu was overjoyed. Although she didn't have a good impression of the student affairs office for going back on its word, and her brother Wen was punished by being sent abroad to pursue a postdoctoral degree because of this incident, her miserable situation had been completely changed, and the burden of her life had been halved. She still said with joy and gratitude, "Thank you."
After hanging up the phone with the student affairs office, Ye Wenyu was lost in thought, her heart filled with unease. She hadn't expected that what Jiang Zhiming had said was true; he had indeed managed to secure her a new spot for the poverty subsidy. A deep sense of gratitude welled up within her for Jiang Zhiming.
Thinking back to the helpless, insecure, and sensitive Jiang Zhiming of the past, and then thinking back to the capable, mature, and rational Jiang Zhiming of today, the contrast is like heaven and earth.
She thought to herself that although she didn't like Jiang Zhiming, he was perhaps the person in the world who cared about her the most besides Cai Wenchuan. She should treat him better, otherwise she would become the ungrateful snake in "The Farmer and the Snake".
With that thought in mind, she sat up in bed, got out of bed, and using the computer desk and chair in the dormitory as a stepping stone, she hopped to the window in her slippers and peered out. She wanted to know if Jiang Zhiming was still waiting outside her dormitory like a fool, even though almost an hour had passed and it was already nine o'clock.
She thought to herself, he definitely won't wait for her anymore. She hadn't been nice to him, and she had repeatedly told him that she didn't need his help.
With this thought in mind, she stood in the shadows by the window and peered down, only to find Jiang Zhiming still standing blankly outside her dormitory under the blazing sun, like a telephone pole. It was a sunny day after the downpour, and the heat was intense; the ground was practically steaming. The pedestrians outside seemed afraid of the sun, all walking hurriedly with their heads down. There were hardly any people to be seen, except for Jiang Zhiming, who seemed lost in thought, still standing there blankly.
Ye Wenyu's heart skipped a beat, and she was momentarily stunned. She immediately shrank back and hid in the shadows, wondering why Jiang Zhiming was acting this way. Even though she had rejected him, he was still standing outside like an idiot, worried that she might need something, so he was waiting outside hoping to help her.
