Chapter 273 Hospitalization Required

(273)

The two stood there silently; the ward was quiet, like a still valley. At that moment, the doctor entered with a nurse. The nurse smiled at Ye Wenyu and said, "Time to change the dressing."

She then realized that her foot was injured, wrapped tightly in white gauze, like a white rice dumpling. How did her foot get injured? Ye Wenyu looked at Lin Tingfeng in confusion. She remembered that before she fainted, she had just suddenly developed a fever, and she thought she had caught a cold. Why was her foot bandaged?

She suddenly remembered a news story about a man whose right leg was hit by a car, but during surgery, the doctor accidentally cut open his left leg instead. She wondered if the doctor had mistaken her for a car accident patient and cut open her foot. So, she asked nervously, "Did you cut open my foot?" Her face turned ashen with fear.

The doctor and nurses laughed, and when Lin Tingfeng saw her adorable expression, a smile also appeared in his eyes, like an iceberg melting into a river of spring water.

Ye Wenyu watched as the white gauze was peeled back layer by layer, and the nurse applied a cool ointment to the soles of her feet. A slight chill ran through her, and she suddenly remembered that she had been injured there before. During the flood, she had been careful with her shoes and walked barefoot in the water, resulting in a puncture wound on the sole of her foot from a thumbtack. Later, she met Jiang Zhiming, who kindly carried her to the hospital. He insisted on giving her a tetanus shot because the thumbtack was rusty, but the doctor said it wasn't necessary because the wound wasn't deep.

Did she get tetanus? I heard tetanus is incurable and can be fatal.

Thinking of this, Ye Wenyu's face turned as pale as a corpse. Her lips trembled as if she had scalding hot oil in them, and she asked, "Doctor, do I have tetanus? My foot was punctured by a rusty thumbtack before, and it bled a lot." If she had tetanus, she would be so unlucky.

The doctor glanced at her; Ye Wenyu's lips had lost all color.

The nurse told her, "Your previous wound has become infected."

What? Ye Wenyu's body trembled.

The doctor said expressionlessly, "We've taken some cells for a biopsy. Your foot was injured before, and did it get wet in cold or dirty water? The wound became infected and festered again, which is why you suddenly had a high fever and fainted."

That's right. After her foot injury healed, she had to go out to work every day. It's the rainy season in Jiangnan now, and it rains every day. She runs around outside, and every day when she returns to the dormitory, her shoes and socks are wet. So the wound might get infected again.

She had a sudden fever before, and she thought it was just a cold. But it turned out to be a re-infection of her previous wound. Just now, she asked the doctor if she had tetanus, but the doctor looked at her without saying a word. It doesn't seem like a good sign.

Thinking of this, Ye Wenyu's heart clenched with pain. She gripped the blanket tightly with both hands on it, thinking how miserable her life was. She never expected that she would be diagnosed with an incurable disease before she could even pay off her debts.

She lay blankly on the bed, tears welling up in her eyes. After the doctor examined her wound and the nurse changed her dressing, they all left.

Only Lin Tingfeng and Ye Wenyu remained in the ward.

Lin Tingfeng reached out a hand and gently squeezed her cold little hand resting on the blanket, saying softly, "Nothing will happen, don't scare yourself."

Hearing his warm words, Ye Wenyu didn't know why, but tears suddenly welled up in her eyes. Suddenly filled with hatred, she forcefully shook off Lin Tingfeng's large hand, turned her head sharply to look at him, and gritted her teeth as she cursed, "It's all because of you, it's all your fault!"

Lin Tingfeng was completely bewildered by the scolding, thinking it was an undeserved misfortune and that he was utterly innocent. What did her foot injury have to do with him? He had kindly taken her to the hospital, and she was blaming him instead.

However, for some reason, he didn't get angry in the face of her insults. Instead, he said in a gentle tone, "Okay, it's all my fault, alright?"

As long as she's happy and doesn't cry, he's willing to shoulder everything.

Lin Tingfeng was also surprised by this change in himself.

Ye Wenyu was stunned, wondering what it had to do with him. In this life, she had chosen her own path, and it had nothing to do with him. Why did he keep appearing in her world and taking on so many things?

She stared blankly at him, then suddenly asked softly, "Do you think I'll die?" Her voice was as thin as a spider's thread in the wind, and the fear in her heart was indescribable.

Lin Tingfeng was taken aback, then immediately reached out and took her cold little hand, gently replying, "No, I've never heard of anyone being killed by a thumbtack."

Ye Wenyu laughed, her teeth as white as jade, but she withdrew her hand from his warm, large hand, frowned at him, and said, "It's not funny at all."

Lin Tingfeng smiled and asked her gently, "Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?" He was extremely thoughtful and considerate.

Ye Wenyu suddenly remembered that at this moment, she was in the hospital, and he was taking care of her. All the practical problems rushed into her mind like a tidal wave, and she shouted, "Doctor, doctor, I need to find a doctor."

Lin Tingfeng asked her, "The doctor just left, why are you looking for him?"

Ye Wenyu shook her head, her heart filled with worry. She struggled to get off the hospital bed and said urgently, "I can't be hospitalized." She thought about how she was still a student and hadn't asked the school for leave. She also thought about how she still owed 50,000 yuan and needed to go out to work every day. If she missed even one day, she wouldn't be able to pay off her debts by the end of the year!

The poor have no right to rest. Knowing she was heavily in debt, she couldn't afford to be hospitalized. Hospital rooms were more expensive than five-star hotels. Therefore, she wanted to leave the hospital as soon as possible, no matter what.

However, as soon as her feet touched the ground, a sharp, stabbing pain shot through the soles of her bandaged feet. Ye Wenyu froze, unable to breathe from the pain, her forehead drenched in sweat, unable to move forward. She stood there, tears streaming down her face like broken pearls.

Lin Tingfeng said to her seriously, "You must be hospitalized." His voice was not loud, but it was very firm.

Ye Wenyu didn't say anything, she just kept crying. Ignoring the money, she couldn't afford to be hospitalized. The only person who cared about her, Cai Wenchuan, was in Germany. Her mother had a new family and was too busy to take care of herself; who would look after her if she were hospitalized?

Lin Tingfeng seemed to know her inside and out. He said to her, "I'll take care of you these next few days."

Ye Wenyu shook her head; she didn't want him to take care of her, so the best solution was to avoid hospitalization.

She struggled to walk forward, trying to leave the hospital, but after only two steps, a sharp pain shot through her, almost making her faint. She collapsed to the ground, beads of sweat the size of soybeans appearing on her forehead.
