Ye Wenyu was becoming increasingly confused, feeling as if she were in a fog.
"We've arrived—" Lin Tingfeng gently informed her, and the car quietly drove into the Q University campus. Five or six minutes later, it stopped outside Ye Wenyu's girls' dormitory building.
Lin Tingfeng parked the car, unbuckled his seatbelt and got out. He then gentlemanly opened the car door for Ye Wenyu, who got out in a daze.
Seeing her exquisitely beautiful, snow-white face filled with confusion, Lin Tingfeng couldn't help but smile. He couldn't possibly remain completely expressionless all the time, but in front of this young girl, he was always shrewd and calculating, ensuring she didn't notice his inner thoughts when they surfaced.
Ye Wenyu felt as if she were in a dream. She whispered a thank you, and the moment she got off the bus, the two were extremely close. She was two heads shorter than him; one step forward, and she could have buried her face in his broad, warm chest. She could even smell the pleasant scent of tobacco on him. However, she had to be careful not to lose her composure, so she took a deep, greedy breath and whispered, "Thank you, goodbye." Without looking up, she mechanically walked into the girls' dormitory. He had given her four years' tuition but didn't want her to pay it back, saying there were no conditions. But there's no such thing as a free lunch. She should repay him, but how could she possibly have the ability to do so now? What should she do? What should she do? Would she ever see him again? How could she possibly get along with him?
She walked forward with a head full of questions until her head bumped into the black, ornate iron gate, and she realized that the dormitory was closed!
Oh no! Ye Wenyu cried out in her heart that something was wrong and immediately rushed to find the dormitory supervisor. However, no matter how hard she knocked on the door, the small room where the supervisor usually lived was dark and the door was closed, and there was no response.
Ye Wenyu turned around in despair, and her whole body slid down the carved iron gate to the ground.
What to do? I'm back at school, but I can't go back to my dorm. Tomorrow I'll have to endure my roommates' strange looks, and the dorm supervisor's warnings and questioning. If things get serious, the school might be notified—
Ye Wenyu felt a headache coming on, her body curled up into a ball, trembling uncontrollably with fear. Tomorrow, a terrible tomorrow—she lowered her head in despair, like a homeless little animal, hugging herself with both hands.
A pair of feet in fine leather shoes stopped in front of her, and a gentle voice sounded above her head: "What, is the dormitory locked?"
Ye Wenyu had just come to her senses when she looked up and saw Lin Tingfeng's concerned gaze. A warm feeling washed over her. So, he hadn't left yet; he had been watching her. Perhaps he wanted to wait until she went into the dormitory before he could feel at ease.
Ye Wenyu nodded heavily, her heart filled with despair. Ever since her mother sold the house and remarried, and her parents had ignored her completely, she had been facing all sorts of hardships alone for the past month. Only he, only Lin Tingfeng, cared about her. He paid her tuition for four years of university, and tonight, he rescued her from a group of lecherous men. When she couldn't get a ride back to school, he personally escorted her back. Now, with the dormitory gates closed, he was asking her with concern again.
He said softly, "It's alright if the door is closed. Go to a hotel, I'll take you there."
Ye Wenyu nodded, mustered her spirits, and stood up. That was all she could do. She said in a hoarse voice, "I have money, I have my ID card, and I'm over eighteen." So she could book a room alone, but saying this made her feel inexplicably sad.
Lin Tingfeng glanced at her, his obsidian-like phoenix eyes filled with complex emotions that were hard to describe. He said very gently, "I'll treat you to a hotel room with my ID. It's not appropriate for a girl to use her own ID to book a room."
Ye Wenyu felt a surge of emotion and looked at him gratefully.
Lin Tingfeng was tall and muscular, standing at 1.85 meters with bulging muscles. He always gave her the feeling of a giant beast, a lion or something similar. Especially when he smiled, like right now, under the moonlight, his smile revealed neat, white teeth that reminded one of a wolf's fangs. However, because he had been taking care of her, this beast-like man didn't give her a sense of danger; on the contrary, he gave her a tremendous sense of security and peace of mind.
“Let’s go then. I remember there’s a nice hotel at Q University, behind the bamboo grove. It’s used by the university to entertain experts.” He walked ahead, and Ye Wenyu followed behind. Suddenly, she felt an unbearable itch all over her body. She couldn’t help but reach out to scratch. Before, because she was in the car in front of him, she was afraid of being unseemly or embarrassing, so she had been trying her best to control herself. Now, she simply couldn’t bear it. Looking at his back, she reached out and started scratching. Once she started scratching, she couldn’t stop. The more she scratched, the itchier it became, and the more it itched, the more she scratched until her nails broke her skin, and her arm bled.
Her once slender, snow-white arms were suddenly covered in a large patch of red bumps under her fingernails, looking quite frightening. Her right hand started itching, and then her left hand started itching too. She lifted the sleeve of her left hand, and before she even started scratching, there was already a large patch of red bumps, one bump after another. Her once beautiful, fair skin now looked as ugly as a toad! She couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
Lin Tingfeng turned around.
Ye Wenyu lowered her head in frustration. Her thighs were itchy beyond description, and she knew without even looking that they must be just as unbearable to look at as her arms.
She said in a hoarse voice, "I'm allergic to alcohol. I was forced to drink a large glass of wine at that table earlier." At this point, she could no longer hold back, and tears began to flow silently and wildly like a tap that had been turned on.
My heart aches as if it's being pierced by needles.
This is so tragic! Tell me, who in this world is more pitiful than her?
