Chapter 36 One Night in the Hospital

The moment Ye Wenyu glanced at her phone, she felt even more guilty.

The nurse came over, took the medicine, and took Ye Wenyu's right hand. She patted the back of her hand to find a vein. Wenyu was afraid of pain and pleaded softly with her, "Can you do it in my left hand instead? I need to do my homework in my right hand tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, Lin Tingfeng couldn't help but smile, but not wanting her to see it, he turned slightly away.

The nurse picked up Wen Yu's left hand and rubbed it with medical iodine. Immediately, a cold sensation spread across the back of her hand. Ye Wen Yu knew that she was going to get an injection. She had been afraid of injections since she was a child. When she was little, whenever she was sick and needed an injection, she would cry and run to find her mother. She would only let the nurse give her an injection if she buried her little head in her mother's arms.

But now, she's grown up, her mother has remarried, yet she's still afraid of injections.

Ye Wenyu became frightened and panicked. What should she do?

As if knowing what she was thinking, Lin Tingfeng walked up to her, sat down on the chair next to her, took her right hand, and said gently, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

Ye Wenyu was stunned for a moment. Immediately, a warm current flowed from his palm into her palm, and then with great force, it entered her heart, making her whole body feel warm.

She looked at him gratefully, and immediately her fear subsided. Lin Tingfeng said gently to her, "Don't look."

Like a docile little white rabbit, she glanced at him gratefully, nodded, and instead of looking at the nurse, stared at the gold cufflinks on his shirt, which looked like Chanel and were beautifully designed. After a while, the nurse said, "Okay." Then she laughed and said, "You're so old, a college student, and you're still afraid of needles? Are you just being affectionate with your boyfriend?"

Ye Wenyu blushed. Just now, while enduring the pain of the needle pricks, she had been restraining herself from sticking the needle into Lin Tingfeng's arms like she did when she was a child.

However, because the nurse mistook Lin Tingfeng for her boyfriend, she felt a surge of sweetness in her heart and didn't feel the injection was painful at all. On the contrary, she was very happy. She even hoped that the IV drip would be slower so that he could stay with her a little longer.

However, she quickly regained her senses. The hospital clock showed three in the morning. She said to him guiltily, "Mr. Lin, I'm so sorry to have kept you up all night. I'm fine now. You can go back now. By the time I finish my IV drip, it will be light, and I'll go back to my dorm."

Her pretty little face was as red as the winter sunset.

Lin Tingfeng gazed at her, sat down beside her, smiled, and slowly said, "Old people are light sleepers. At this hour, even if I went home, I wouldn't be able to sleep. I might as well stay here with you." His legs were unusually long; sitting on the hospital chair, his legs stretched out almost blocked the aisle. He had to sit there with his legs tucked in, like an adult sitting in a child's chair, because he was so tall and strong.

He said he was an old man? Ye Wenyu stared at him, thinking of his handsome face and dashing appearance. How could he possibly be an old man? She said almost admiringly, "You're not old at all. Didn't you see what the nurse thought just now—"

She wanted to say that the nurse thought you were her boyfriend, but when the words were on the tip of her tongue, she realized that it would be inappropriate to say it. Not only would it seem like she was seducing him, but it would also expose all her secret feelings of longing. So, she blushed and remained silent.

Lin Tingfeng gazed at her, naturally understanding the meaning behind her words. The corners of his mouth turned up slightly, and he silently stayed by her side.

Three hours later, as the early autumn sky brightened, Ye Wenyu finally finished all her IV drips. All the terrible red bumps on her body had long since disappeared, and her skin was no longer red, swollen, or painful, regaining its former snow-white smoothness.

She asked the nurse to remove the needle, feeling much better. Lin Tingfeng drove her to the girls' dormitory. The dormitory doors were already open again as it was getting light, and she was overjoyed to see she could go back to her room. Her mood was even better because Lin Tingfeng had stayed with her at the hospital all night. Her large, grape-like eyes sparkled like stars. She gratefully said to Lin Tingfeng, "Mr. Lin, thank you so much. I don't know how to repay you. Since my mother—only you have been so kind to me." A pang of sadness struck her, thinking that they would soon be separated and they didn't know when they would see each other again, making her even more heartbroken.

Lin Tingfeng handed her the other oral medications the doctor had prescribed for her the night before, along with her medical records, and said gently, "Don't be shy. If the dorm supervisor asks why you didn't come home last night, just say you were sick. Look, I have your hospital records—"

Ye Wenyu gratefully accepted it. He was so thoughtful and considerate, taking care of her in every way, and even came up with a solution for her to answer the aunt's questions about female college students not returning home at night.

However, when she reached out to take the medical record, and their hands were very close, she was shocked to find that he was hooking the bag with one finger while the other fingers were outstretched. Most people hold things with a slightly clenched fist, but he was handing it to her with his palm facing out. He seemed to really not want to touch her hand! It was as if she were an ugly toad. Last night, when the nurse gave her an injection, although he held her hand, he released it in a flash after the nurse finished the injection, in just a few seconds.

Last night, if he hadn't let go so quickly while she was getting acupuncture, she would have been encouraged and thrown herself into his arms.

Ye Wenyu silently accepted her medical records and medication, feeling hurt and her self-esteem damaged. This was the first time she had been rejected by a man. From childhood, because of her beauty, many men had been eager to have physical contact with her.

And he—

He seems to be an ascetic man!

That's strange!

His kindness towards her didn't seem like he disliked her.

Ye Wenyu was saddened and confused, feeling as if she had fallen into a fog. However, she still rallied her spirits and pretended that nothing had happened, saying politely, "President Lin, you are so smart. I was just worried about that, afraid that the dormitory supervisor would question me. Thank you, thank you very much!"

He squinted at the morning light and said to her, "It's only right for an elderly person to help a child."

He still considers himself an old man.

Ye Wenyu asked curiously, "How old are you?"

Thirty-seven.

"Thirty-seven is old? Not at all! A man is in his prime at forty."

She thought to herself, with delight, that this was the age when a man was at his most charming.

Lin Tingfeng smiled and glanced at her, then asked, "How old are you?"

"I'll be eighteen in a month."

Lin Tingfeng gazed at her and slowly said, "In front of you, I'm not an old man." His eyes held a complex expression. After a few minutes of silence, without waiting for her reply, he waved his hand, turned, and drove away.

Ye Wenyu was left standing there in a daze until his car drove away and disappeared from her sight. She was still standing there.

This was their third meeting.
