Chapter 42 Warm Little Garden

(42)

The Young Faculty Apartment is a new building, unlike the Q University faculty dormitory in Ye Wenyu's previous life. In her previous life, one Teacher's Day, she went to give a gift to a teacher and saw a well-known professor, middle-aged, whose wife was pregnant with twins. The family was living in a small, dilapidated house of less than 30 square meters, which was old, run-down, and filled with clutter, never seeing sunlight. This scene left a deep impression on Ye Wenyu. In her previous life, she had no intention of considering Cai Wenchuan's pursuit. Having lived a hard life in the first half of her life, she vowed to change her fate and live a wealthy life in the second half of her life through her own abilities. Therefore, she chose Lin Tingfeng. However, later on, she realized that everything has a price.

As Ye Wenyu was lost in memories of the past, Cai Wenchuan, carrying a bag of groceries in one hand, took out his keys with the other and smiled at Wenyu, saying, "We're here. I live on the first floor." He pointed to a corner on the east side of the building.

Ye Wenyu snapped out of her reverie, composed herself, and looked in the direction he was pointing. She found a small garden, about twenty square meters in size. Although it was late autumn, it was bursting with blooming flowers of all colors—red, purple, white, and yellow. In the late autumn night, the flowers twinkled like stars.

Although Ye Wenyu was feeling down because of her unexpected encounter with Jiang Zhiming, the sight of such a beautiful garden still brightened her eyes and lifted her spirits slightly. Her exquisite face was filled with disbelief as she softly asked Cai Wenchuan, "Is this your garden?"

Cai Wenchuan nodded, a hint of pride on his face. He smiled and said, "Actually, it can't be considered my yard. It's just an open space in front of my house. The school lets us do whatever we want, so I asked workers to knock down a wall, build a gate, and put up hedges around it, turning it into a private garden."

Ye Wenyu smiled and nodded, a warm feeling washing over her. She thought to herself, "Brother Wen is so romantic! He loves life so much, it's truly admirable. Perhaps his love for life will warm her heart, which has been chilled by terrible memories, like sunshine."

He saw Wen Yu staring silently at the garden, her eyes filled with both fear and amusement, though he didn't know what caused her sudden fear.

Cai Wenchuan gazed at her, his expression suddenly becoming exceptionally gentle. He said softly, "Wenyu, I remember you said when you were little that your biggest dream was to have a garden."

What?! Ye Wenyu was stunned for a moment, then suddenly raised her head and looked at Cai Wenchuan in disbelief. His voice was not loud, like a spring breeze, but to Ye Wenyu's ears it sounded like a loud bell. What did he mean?

That's right, because she had lived in her mother's factory dormitory since she was a child. It was an old and dilapidated tenement building. They lived on the third floor with only a small balcony, which didn't even face south. She, on the other hand, had a natural love for plants and enjoyed growing all kinds of flowers and grasses.

Cai Wenchuan once gave her various potted plants on her birthday. Sometimes, when he was young and still needed his parents to support him, he didn't have much money. So he would go to the mountains in the wild on weekends to pick beautiful wildflowers and grasses, plant them in pots for her, and then give them to her.

Every time she received a potted plant from him, she was overjoyed and would sigh, "It's a pity I only have a balcony, Brother Wen. You know, I dream of having a yard so I can grow lots and lots of flowers and plants. I promise that if I had a yard, I would definitely turn it into the most beautiful garden in the world!"

Could it be that he remembered all those carefree jokes he made as a child, and that over the years of separation, little by little, he planted a garden for her?

Ye Wenyu couldn't believe it; he had given her such boundless affection. What did she deserve? What good fortune did she have to receive such a thing?

In her past life, she was truly blind; she never knew that Brother Wen was so good to her, so incredibly good—

Cai Wenchuan said softly, "I have never forgotten what you said. After moving here and seeing this empty space, I thought of what you said. I think that one day we will meet again, and then I will give this garden to you."

It's actually true!

Suddenly, huge tears welled up in Ye Wenyu's eyes, and her nose turned red and sore. She stood in front of him with her head hanging low, her hands clasped together. She was too overwhelmed with warmth and emotion to speak.

He took her childhood joke to heart. Even though he wasn't sure when they would meet again, he still kept her in his heart and remembered every word she had said.

"Why are you crying?" Cai Wenchuan asked gently. He reached out and wiped away her tears. His long, clean fingers touched her delicate, fair face, causing her to tremble slightly. A current of electricity, like a raging fire, surged from her face to his fingertips, making his heart race, his blood rush, and his whole body tremble.

He said softly, "I'm not very good at growing flowers. Now that we're together, you'll be the owner of this garden. You can take care of it, okay?"

Ye Wenyu nodded with tears in her eyes. Reuniting with Jiang Zhiming brought back all sorts of terrible memories that filled her with fear and made her feel depressed. However, Cai Wenchuan's thoughtfulness and love gave her a sudden surge of courage, and her mood finally lifted. She felt grounded and warm again.

She wiped away her tears, smiled, and said to him, "Then let's go inside and take a look."

“Okay!” Cai Wenchuan happily agreed, took out his key, opened the door, and the two of them walked in with light steps.
