Chapter 54 Lovesickness

Ye Wenyu shed her heavy winter clothes and continued her life in a monotonous routine: school, classroom, and part-time job. Because time had dragged on for so long, she had given up hope of ever seeing Lin Tingfeng again. She thought to herself that he certainly had no intention of asking her to repay the tuition he had lent her, so he would never appear in her life again.

Although she never forgot him, she often dreamed of him.

She missed him madly, because he was the only person who had given her warmth in the past six months. His presence was the courage that kept her going through her difficult life.

So tall and handsome, so calm and composed, so deliberate and unassuming, so gentle when he looked at her, speaking slowly, and when happy, the corners of his mouth would turn up slightly. He would also gaze tenderly at her when she wasn't looking.

The first time they met, he wore a black hoodie with the hood pulled up, looking like a fierce beast. The second time, he wore a black suit and stood outside the principal's office, the lush green camphor trees in the distance making him look even more handsome, like a painting. The third time, he wore a white shirt, his tie loosely undone, a black suit jacket draped over his arm. He rescued her from a group of men trying to force her to drink at a banquet, saving her from being drugged and humiliated with just a few words. The fourth time, he drove a military green Hummer, like a hero descending from the sky, rescuing her from thugs and protecting her from being assaulted. He was injured for her sake, and even his black trench coat couldn't hide the blood flowing freely from his wounds.

Memories flooded back, warming her heart and making her want to cry. Lin Tingfeng's image, which had only briefly crossed her mind before, was later deeply etched into the depths of her heart, like a brand, in her longing for him whom she could not see.

Every time they met, Ye Wenyu would recount his stories as if they were her own treasures. She knew that her heart had unknowingly fallen for him, as if he were holding her by a thread. Loving someone seemed to be something she couldn't control. If she could control her feelings, she would never have let herself fall in love with him.

Because when you think about the distance between yourself and him, it's like the sky and the earth, the clouds and the mud.

She was a poor girl, while he was the president of the Lin Group, a company with enormous wealth and a position of power above all others.

Ye Wenyu could only entrust this feeling to time and hide it deep in her heart. She thought that one day she would forget him. Even if they couldn't be together, thinking about how he had taken care of her and these warm and beautiful memories could inspire her to keep moving forward bravely.

Ye Wenyu worked continuously for half a year, putting a heavy burden on her body. In addition, she ate only one dish per meal in the canteen all year round, resulting in malnutrition. Her body soon couldn't take it anymore. With a few spring rains in early spring, she caught a cold. She smiled bitterly and wondered if it was because she was lovesick or because she was too tired and her body couldn't take it anymore and started to rebel.

She had a severe cough and a fever at night, with her body experiencing alternating chills and fever. She gritted her teeth and bought fever-reducing medicine, but her condition did not improve. The next day was the weekend, and she longed to lie in bed and rest for a day, but she still had to struggle to go to work because if she didn't work, she wouldn't have any money for food and living expenses next month.
