Chapter 634 A New Life

(633)

Days passed by, and the civil service interview was drawing ever closer. Ye Wenyu thought that if everything went smoothly, she could resign from this small company and become a court employee after passing the interview.

In private, privately-owned, and foreign-owned enterprises, everyone is a worker. Workers are destined to be slaves to others. So now that he thinks about it, Cai Wenchuan used to resent that his father was the steward of the Lin Group and a slave. But looking at the whole world, aren't all workers slaves?

So there's no need to worry about it. We're all in the same boat. Many people with jobs resent being slaves but can't get one, and they're desperately trying to climb the ladder to become a bigger slave.

A person who earns their living through their own abilities and with legitimate earnings deserves respect, regardless of their occupation.

Thinking of Cai Wenchuan, Ye Wenyu picked up her phone and checked it. His number was still in her contacts. She wondered how he was doing. He'd suddenly acquired a huge fortune and now married the Lin family's eldest daughter, whom he'd loved since childhood. He must be living a life of bliss. They'd grown up together, their bond stronger than blood. Even past hurts had faded with time.

Time is the best eraser. She has forgotten the hurt that Cai Wenchuan caused her because of his selfishness and confusion. She only remembers the brother-sister relationship they had since childhood.

Since their breakup, and his decision to be with Lin Tingyue, the two of them have had no contact, as if they have disappeared from each other's worlds.

Ye Wenyu considered whether to call Cai Wenchuan to ask how he was doing. After thinking about it for a while, she decided to give up. If he wasn't doing well, he would probably come looking for her. Sometimes no news is good news. He was so happy that he hadn't contacted her, so why should she bother calling him?

Therefore, Ye Wenyu put down her phone and continued living her life. Let's keep our distance and offer our blessings from afar, each living happily in our own worlds.

Cai Wenchuan didn't go to Ye Wenyu, but went to Lin Tingfeng instead.

When he appeared at the Lin family's old house and stood in the courtyard in a daze, Lin Tingfeng came out of his house and was quite surprised to see Cai Wenchuan who had come to find him.

Cai Wenchuan actually took the initiative to find him. Last time he saw him, he guessed that he was not doing well, so he left his business card. Unexpectedly, he did come to find him.

The sky was overcast, and a strong wind was blowing outside. The powerful mountain wind felt like tiny knives, ripping at one's skin and causing excruciating pain. Cai Wenchuan let the wind whip his long hair and clothes around his neck. He was as thin as a sheet of paper, wearing a gray jacket. His hair was long and messy, and his face was pale with a gray tinge. He was cold and stiff, like a marble statue. His expression was one of weariness and pain. Even the most oblivious person would know at a glance that this man lived in deep suffering.

Lin Tingfeng glanced at Cai Wenchuan, then smiled slightly, strode out, stood in front of Cai Wenchuan, and said warmly, "Wenchuan, welcome to visit me."

Cai Wenchuan finally raised his head, glanced wearily at Lin Tingfeng, then looked at the large house behind him, and asked, "Is it convenient to talk?" His voice was light and airy, like a spider's web.

Lin Tingfeng smiled slightly and said to him, "There are not many people left in this house now, just my mother, an old servant who has been with us for many years, and everyone else has left. It's very quiet. Sometimes, you can't hear any footsteps all day long, so it's not a matter of whether it's convenient or not, it's simply too convenient."

Cai Wenchuan, however, seemed oblivious to Lin Tingfeng's self-deprecating humor. He looked towards a corner, seemingly lost in thought, and asked Lin Tingfeng, "Are you busy right now?"

The roses in the garden are in full bloom. One variety, called "The Great Parade," has vines that, like a vast army, have climbed up the trellis set up by the gardener and onto the wall of the Lin family's old house. It's a magnificent and imposing sight.

Cai Wenchuan gazed thoughtfully at the roses. He envied their vitality, while his own life was being consumed by the torment of his existence.

Like a dying insect.

Lin Tingfeng chuckled and patted his clothes. He was wearing a casual black tracksuit and had just run a few laps around the foot of the mountain that morning. He said to Cai Wenchuan, "I'm a complete free man now. I don't even go to the Lin Group anymore. Although I still have shares, I'm afraid those shares will soon no longer belong to me."

Life is full of ups and downs. When he left the Lin Group, he thought he had fallen into an abyss and that there was no way he could ever turn things around. But now, he understands. No, what he thought was a punishment back then, he now sees as a turning point in his life where things are looking up again.

He met Ye Wenyu, and they are now in a relationship.

Cai Wenchuan was still looking at the bright red roses with flowers as big as bowls when he said to Lin Tingfeng, "Ten years east of the river, ten years west of the river, the changes in life are something we can never foresee."

Lin Tingfeng's smile vanished. That's right, he suddenly stopped laughing, not because of himself, but because of Cai Wenchuan. The pained tone in his voice made it seem as if he had experienced a dramatic change in his life.

What exactly happened?

As for his shares in the Lin Group, although he couldn't give a reason, he knew that Zhang Yingzi would never allow him to own one-third of the Lin Group's shares for an extended period of time. She would drive him out of the Lin family completely.

Lin Tingfeng sighed inwardly, feeling as if a huge rock was pressing on his chest. He suggested to Cai Wenchuan, "Let's find a place to sit. Let's go to my study."

Cai Wenchuan nodded, and the two sat down in Lin Tingfeng's study. The old maid, Zhang Ma, brought in two bowls of tea, and Lin Tingfeng waved his hand, after which Zhang Ma withdrew.

Only Lin Tingfeng and Cai Wenchuan remained in the study.

Whether Cai Wenchuan was trying to hide his thoughts or was genuinely captivated by the books lining the four walls of the Lin family's study, it was astonishing that a home could possess such a vast collection of books; it was practically a miniature library.

He stood there, looking at those thick books one after another, like a focused bookworm, without saying a word for a long time.

Lin Tingfeng didn't bring it up, and quietly drank his tea, enjoying the scenery outside the window.

Now is the time when the garden is in full bloom, the most beautiful season. All kinds of flowers are blooming in competition, and the blue and pink hydrangeas are about to bloom. When they bloom, their flowers are as big as footballs, hence the name hydrangea. In the summer, Zhang Ma would cut one or two hydrangeas every day and put them in the study as vases.

Lin Tingfeng smiled as he imagined whether he and Xiaoyu could get married and have children in this house one day when everything had settled down.
