Lin Tingfeng was stunned for a moment, a warm feeling washing over him. He bowed slightly and replied, "Thank you for your concern. I'm fine, I'm doing alright."
No matter what, you have to keep going through life. There's no point in talking about the bitterness in your heart.
His ex-wife nodded and asked him, "Can you tell me why you need the money?"
A breeze blew by, carrying the fragrance of flowers from the garden, like gardenias, their scent so overwhelming it was like a light veil.
The air is fresh.
Lin Tingfeng opened his mouth, wondering if she would help him if he told her that the woman he loved most had been kidnapped and that an 80 million ransom was needed.
After all, his ex-wife's father also ran a large conglomerate. Now he finally remembered someone: if anyone in the world was interested in the one-third of the Lin Group shares he owned, it was his ex-wife.
So should he tell the truth?
If what his ex-wife's close friends said is true—that she loved him madly, and now that she knows he has a woman he loves, will she be jealous and refuse to buy his shares?
Then, wouldn't that mean even the last glimmer of hope has been extinguished?
As Lin Tingfeng hesitated and remained silent, his ex-wife gave him a sarcastic smile and said, "You're being far too presumptuous!"
Lin Tingfeng's face flushed. Yes, she was so beautiful and wealthy; what kind of man couldn't she find? Would she still be hung up on him after the divorce?
His ex-wife gritted her teeth and said, "My father wants me to buy your shares for 80 million."
Really? Lin Tingfeng's eyes lit up; Xiaoyu was saved.
His ex-wife took out a share transfer agreement and said to him, "Sign here. After you sign, the money will be in your account around this afternoon."
Lin Tingfeng took the contract, which clearly stated the transfer of equity. His hand trembled slightly, and he signed the contract without even thinking.
He handed the contract to his ex-wife and said gratefully, "Thank you."
His ex-wife took the contract, glanced at his signature, then at Lin Tingfeng, and asked him, "Is that little girlfriend really that important? Is she really worth a third of Lin's shares?"
Lin Tingfeng's face flushed even more. He smiled but didn't say anything.
His ex-wife put the contract in her handbag and left, filled with resentment.
In the afternoon, the 80 million arrived in Lin Tingfeng's account on time. He called the bank to schedule a pickup for the next day, then went to the bank to collect the money, put it into three black plastic bags, and hurriedly drove to the transaction location mentioned by the kidnappers.
My heart was pounding wildly, as if it were about to cramp.
Just as the car drove out of the suburbs, he received a phone call. It was as if he was constantly under the surveillance of the kidnappers. Lin Tingfeng answered the phone nervously, his throat dry with fear. The kidnapper's voice came through menacingly: "Don't call the police, or that girl is dead!"
"No, I didn't call the police!" Lin Tingfeng answered loudly. Because of his nervousness, the car skidded and almost crashed into another car. Lin Tingfeng immediately steadied the steering wheel.
"Are you looking for death?!" Other drivers were startled, rolled down their windows, and cursed him viciously.
Lin Tingfeng ignored the angry car owners and continued listening to the kidnappers' phone call.
"Great, when we get to the warehouse, it says XX Shoe Factory Warehouse. There's a green paint bucket inside; just put the money in that bucket."
The kidnapper's voice was steady, clearly indicating a well-thought-out plan.
"Where is she? Where is my girlfriend?" Lin Tingfeng was most worried about Xiaoyu's safety, and his voice was already unsteady, like a spider's web in the wind.
Ye Wenyu's voice immediately came through the receiver: "Tingfeng, don't worry about me, call the police! Don't listen to them, don't listen to them!"
Just as Lin Tingfeng was about to say something, he heard two "slap" sounds, followed by Ye Wenyu's screams and cries, clearly indicating that she had been beaten by the kidnappers.
Lin Tingfeng was so enraged that he almost lost control. The car swayed wildly on the road as if it were drunk. He shouted, "Don't hit her! If you dare to hit her again, I'll kill your whole family!"
"Hurry up and send the money over, and we'll return her to you. It's cash on delivery. Put the money in the paint bucket, and when you leave the warehouse, she'll be safe. She'll appear before you."
Hearing about this transaction method, Lin Tingfeng finally felt a little more at ease. He gritted his teeth, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and decided to take a gamble. He was still young, and he could earn money again. In the end, money would just be a number.
Most importantly, he met Xiaoyu. He had spent his whole life trying to meet such a person, and he couldn't lose Xiaoyu!
Therefore, he decided not to call the police and to follow the kidnappers' instructions.
Half an hour later, Lin Tingfeng drove to the warehouse the kidnappers had mentioned. The surroundings were quiet, like a graveyard. He carried three bags inside and looked around. Sure enough, he saw the green paint bucket, which was placed in a very conspicuous position. Lin Tingfeng walked over quickly.
He had brought a knife with him when he left home, just in case, so he held the knife in one hand as he walked into the paint bucket.
The warehouse was large and deserted, with no one around, but he constantly felt like he was being watched, with countless eyes probably watching him from the shadows.
He ventured into the tiger's den alone, and having come this far, he was not afraid at all; on the contrary, he felt a surge of courage and heroism.
However, he was safe and sound in the end, and no one attacked him along the way. Lin Tingfeng put the three black bags into the paint bucket, then looked around and called out, "I've put the money in." Still, no one came out, and no one answered.
A few minutes later, he walked out of the warehouse.
