(seventy)
Ye Wenyu thought painfully, she was both attached to him and afraid of him, she didn't know what awaited her.
On the one hand, she hoped that this ten-day escort trip would end as soon as possible so that she could return to campus and live the life of a poor college student. On the other hand, she hoped that she could confirm his love for her and that the two of them could be together.
Can the two of them really be together? She stared blankly at him.
Just then, Lin Tingfeng looked up, and Ye Wenyu immediately raised her book high in fright and hid behind it. Because of her exaggerated action, Lin Tingfeng couldn't help but smile.
But he remained calm and composed.
Ye Wenyu blushed and pretended to read, her heart pounding wildly. She stared at the words dancing on the page. He loved her? It was impossible. The thought filled her with despair, a despair that words could not describe.
Feeling as if all her secrets had been revealed, Ye Wenyu, filled with despair, refused to face Lin Tingfeng any longer and got up to leave.
After resting for a few days, they packed their bags and set off again.
Lin Tingfeng's driver took them to the airport. When Lin Tingfeng led her through the entrance of the international airport, Ye Wenyu suddenly realized that he was taking her abroad!
She hesitated, and asked him, "Going...going abroad?"
Lin Tingfeng stopped, turned around, and smiled at her, saying, "Yes, I'm taking you abroad to relax." His expression was particularly gentle.
"What country?"
"U.K."
Ye Wenyu lowered her head. She remembered her promise to him. No matter what, even if it meant going through fire and water, she would keep her promise. She said she would stay with him for ten days and not go back on her word halfway through. Besides, she still hadn't found the answer to her doubts. He once said that she would believe him when they reached the next tourist destination. Once they were abroad, would she really believe that he truly loved her?
She was very curious.
Ye Wenyu was skeptical, but whatever the reason, she had to go on this long journey. So she raised her head again, tried to smile at Lin Tingfeng, picked up her suitcase, and followed him.
Once on the plane, Ye Wenyu sat next to Lin Tingfeng. Both of them were in first class. This was her first time flying first class. The exquisite snacks, the endless champagne and cocktails, and the much more comfortable and spacious seats compared to economy class—she could sit or lie down—were all very luxurious. She inexplicably recalled meeting Lin Tingyue on a plane last September when she was on a shopping tour abroad and flying back to China in economy class.
That time, when she met Miss Lin, she only wanted to borrow tuition fees from her. She never expected that one day, she would be sitting in the first class of an international flight with Lin Tingfeng, traveling abroad.
Life is truly like a play, and a play is like life.
"Have you ever been to England?" Lin Tingfeng asked softly beside her.
Lin Tingfeng snapped out of her reverie and felt a pang of hurt pride at his question. She looked at him, her large eyes like black seeds on a pear, clear and bright. She deliberately said in a serious tone, "I've never been there. I've never left the province in my entire life."
Seeing her expression, Lin Tingfeng realized he had been presumptuous, and he said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have—"
Ye Wenyu laughed. The president of the prestigious Lin Group, when had he ever apologized to a young girl? But it was understandable that he misunderstood her as having never been abroad. She recalled their few meetings: the first time, she cried to him about her poverty; the second time, he paid her tuition; the third time, she was a hostess, forced to drink by a group of men; the fourth time, she was harassed by thugs on her way back to school from her night job; the fifth time, she collapsed from illness on her way to tutoring.
They were indeed as poor as someone who had never left the country.
She smiled at him and said softly, "You don't need to apologize. It's not your fault. We rarely see each other, and all you see is me in a terrible state. My family is indeed very poor. My parents divorced when I was young, and I was raised by my mother. But my mother is the kind of person who is poor but obsessed with things. After I finished my college entrance exam, she gave me 20,000 yuan so I could travel abroad."
Lin Tingfeng nodded and said to her, "Your mother did the right thing. It's always better to be optimistic."
Ye Wenyu smiled again and said to her, "That's just my mom's personality. When I was little, I remember once I saw another child wearing a princess dress. That dress cost 600 yuan in the mall. My mom went to the street and handed out flyers for two days to earn 600 yuan to buy it for me. Another time, I wanted to buy a pair of shoes. As soon as my mom got her salary, she went to the mall and bought them for me. For the next month, because she spent all her salary on shoes for me, we ate instant noodles for a month."
Ye Wenyu laughed as she spoke, feeling a warmth in her heart. Recalling the past reminded her that someone loved her.
She glanced at Lin Tingfeng and said softly, "My mother actually loves me very much, she just—" She trailed off, seemingly unsure how to express herself, before finally saying softly, "She just has limited abilities—"
She thought to herself that her mother, whose abilities were limited, was probably only able to be saved from her suffering in this lifetime. Now that she was so old, it was unrealistic to expect her mother to turn around and take care of her.
Lin Tingfeng listened silently for a while before saying, "You're right to think that way. That's what I like about you—you're such a kind and forgiving child."
He called her "child" so naturally, but to Ye Wenyu's ears, it gave her a strange feeling. She looked up at him, momentarily lost in thought.
If only she were really his child, a rich second-generation heiress born with a silver spoon in her mouth. But—
She laughed and said, "How could you possibly have a child my age? You look so young—"
Lin Tingfeng glanced at her, as if he didn't want to face her soul-searching questions. He leaned back in his chair and said to her, "It's a long flight, still seven or eight hours away. Let's get some sleep first."
Ye Wenyu fell silent.
The two of them remained asleep until the plane landed. When they walked out of the airport and were picked up by a driver, they realized that she was already in a foreign country.
Ye Wenyu followed behind Lin Tingfeng, enjoying the feeling of being welcomed and taken care of. She thought to herself, it's so good to be rich. You have houses all over the world and people all over the world to serve you. One day, I hope I can live such a life on my own!
She looked at the tall and strong Lin Tingfeng walking ahead, and then thought about her mother who was scrimping and saving to pay off her mortgage. She felt that it was like heaven and earth.
Her heart slowly changed as she weighed the options. She thought that if Lin Tingfeng liked her, she must seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, because many people might not find such an opportunity even after several lifetimes.
