Zhang Susu and Cai Wenchuan chatted and laughed behind them, exchanging compliments and engaging in a smooth and harmonious social interaction.
As Ye Wenyu listened to their conversation, she felt as if her ears were being pricked by needles.
When we arrived at the hotel's private room, Uncle Cai and Aunt Cai greeted us with overwhelming enthusiasm. They were so polite and well-mannered.
Ye Wenyu immediately greeted them respectfully, her face flushed with embarrassment. She wondered to herself, were their two families really that close? Indeed, when she was a child, the two families had a close relationship and looked after each other, with the Cai family taking care of her family more often. But after more than ten years of no contact, their sudden reunion and such enthusiasm made her a little suspicious and nervous.
Aunt Cai thought Ye Wenyu's blush was due to shyness. She lovingly took her hand and said with a smile, "Xiaoyu is so beautiful. I have never seen such a beautiful girl before."
Ye Wenyu's face remained flushed, almost as if it were about to bleed. Is being pretty useful? Yes, but not very much. Besides, with cosmetic surgery so advanced these days, pretty girls are everywhere, so it's nothing special. She hadn't felt smug about her looks in a long time. Sometimes she would give herself a narcissistic smile in the mirror, only to immediately feel it was superficial.
Uncle Cai said happily, "Watching children grow up is just like watching my own children. I feel so at ease."
Ye Wenyu was stunned, a fog rising in her mind. What did Uncle Cai mean by that? She always felt that their words were like a Chinese word puzzle, with the real meaning hidden beneath.
Zhang Susu, however, seemed to understand the meaning behind Cai's words and flattered him with a smile, saying, "I look at Wenchuan as if he were my own son."
Ye Wenyu glanced at her mother; even her mother was starting to speak in riddles now.
Aunt Cai was even happier. She walked up to Zhang Susu, looked her up and down with a smile, and praised her, "Where did you buy this dress? It's so beautiful. I want to buy one too."
Zhang Susu immediately took her beloved daughter's hand, her eyes shining, and proudly said to her, "Xiaoyu took me to buy it! Kids these days have such good taste, they know what's trendy and what looks good. It cost over four thousand." She happily held up four fingers to show off, her expression full of pride and joy.
Ye Wenyu's neck and shoulders are now burning and red.
Aunt Cai was even happier. She looked at Ye Wenyu with satisfaction and smiled at Zhang Susu, saying, "You are so lucky to have such a filial child!" She used to think that Ye Wenyu was a girl she had watched grow up. First, she felt at ease with her; second, she was beautiful and it would be a good thing to take her out; and third, she was a top student at Q University and a good match for her son. Now she knew another good quality of hers: she was sensible, filial, and well-mannered. Such a daughter-in-law was simply hard to find anywhere.
In short, Cai Wenchuan's mother became more and more satisfied with Ye Wenyu.
The group entered the private room and took their seats, chatting and laughing.
The dishes were plentiful, with all sorts of delicacies laid out on the table. Five people couldn't possibly finish them all, yet the waiters kept bringing in more and more food.
Cai Wenchuan and Ye Wenyu sat together, with three elderly people sitting opposite them. The young people didn't speak, but the three elders chatted and laughed, flattering each other without revealing anything.
Above them was an unusually large crystal chandelier, with probably thousands of tiny crystal bulbs, like a sky full of stars.
This seating arrangement made Ye Wenyu feel extremely uncomfortable, because she was constantly under the satisfied gaze of the three old men. What were they satisfied with?
She sat there stiffly, countless questions rising in her mind. Looking up was awkward, and looking down was also awkward; doubts arose in her heart.
Cai Wenchuan suddenly glanced at her, a smile in his eyes, and said gently, "I remember you liked to drink yogurt when you were little. I'll ask the waiter to bring over two cartons of yogurt." His tone was consultative, with a hint of inquiry, and his gaze was like the warm winter sun.
Ye Wenyu was stunned and looked at Cai Wenchuan. When did he become so considerate and thoughtful towards her? It made her think of the time when they first started dating.
Under Ye Wenyu's curious gaze, Cai Wenchuan smiled at her with a gentle expression.
Ye Wenyu immediately said, "No need, plain water is fine." The main problem was that she couldn't eat anything in such a depressing and awkward environment!
However, Cai Wenchuan insisted on taking it upon himself to have the waiter bring two boxes of yogurt. Ye Wenyu, seeing that he wouldn't listen to her, let him be.
However, I felt a slight displeasure.
Cai Wenchuan first poured drinks for the elderly, then filled his own glass, and then poured yogurt for Ye Wenyu. He smiled and said, "I remember you are allergic to alcohol."
Ye Wenyu was stunned again, as if she had tripped and fallen on flat ground. She quickly glanced at Cai Wenchuan, thinking, "Cai Wenchuan, what are you up to?! We've clearly broken up, you don't have me in your heart, we could have parted amicably, why are you being so gentle with me now?"
It's okay to break up if you don't love each other anymore, and you can part amicably. But it's a bit much to come back and flirt after a breakup!
Her life was so difficult that she couldn't resist the temptation of gentleness. If anyone was nice to her, she would wag her tail like a stray puppy.
At this moment, Zhang Susu said with a smile, "Shufen, Lao Cai, look at the two of them, how well-matched they are!"
Ye Wenyu was stunned, her face flushed red, and she broke out in a cold sweat. Her mother was steering the conversation in an awkward direction.
She sat there as if she were in the center of a stage, and the gazes of the three old men were like searchlights, all falling on her, as if sparks were burning her.
Uncle Cai and Aunt Cai burst into laughter.
Aunt Cai gazed at Ye Wenyu with satisfaction and said happily, "Come on, everyone, don't be shy, let's eat. Xiaoyu, have some food."
Ye Wenyu could only nod awkwardly, her heart pounding like a drum.
Cai Wenchuan picked up the serving chopsticks and put food on her plate. He seemed to want her to try every dish. As a result, her bowl quickly became piled high with food that Cai Wenchuan had put on her plate.
He has really changed!
She looked embarrassed, her face flushed, and whispered to him, "Don't put any more food in my bowl, I can't eat anymore."
She was finding it hard to handle his burning passion.
Cai Wenchuan still ignored her and continued to put food into her bowl, saying gently, "Eat more, you're not fat at all."
His attitude completely changed.
Ye Wenyu was sweating profusely. She wanted to shout and scream, she wanted to run away and get some fresh air, but etiquette made her sit there stiffly, like a doll with its hands and feet tied.
