However, Cai Wenchuan didn't ask any more questions. He quickly told Lin Tingyue on the phone, "Wait for me, I'll be home right away." Then he hung up the phone and drove off hurriedly towards home.
The night was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, just like the future he and Lin Tingyue would have together.
His parents were very surprised by his sudden return home. His mother was somewhat happy and said to him, "Have you finally figured it out now? Listen to your mother and get along well with Xiaoyu. She is a good girl." They thought that his return home again after a short time was because, under their guidance, he had finally come to his senses and returned to the right path.
The father snorted coldly and said to him with a stern face, "I knew you would come to your senses."
Cai Wenchuan was speechless, his face flushed with heat, his shoulders and neck turning bright red. He simply remained silent and hurried upstairs.
From childhood to adulthood, he was always obedient and sensible. His parents hoped he would do well in his studies, so he was always a top student. Choosing to be with Lin Tingyue was the first time in his life that he disobeyed his elders.
When he reached his room, he stopped, his heart pounding like a drum, his palms sweating as he placed them on the doorknob.
Was Xiaoyue really in her room? He was a little hesitant to believe her, but at this point, she shouldn't be lying, right?
He held his breath, pricked up his ears, and gently pushed open the door. The room was quiet, the blankets were spread out, and a clump of flesh was curled up in the blankets. If you didn't look closely, you would think no one was in the room.
The shadows of the trees outside the window swayed in the mountain wind, creating a somewhat frightening scene.
Cai Wenchuan quietly went inside, then reached out and closed the door, locking it from the inside. He then leaned against the door, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
All love and pain reunite here, year after year, meeting and parting, breaking up and getting back together, resolving to forget yet remembering forever, everything is a cycle.
Now, she's back by his side, just like when she was a child. When she felt wronged, she would run to his room, like a little forest sprite, and hide under his blankets to cry.
The room was filled with light, hope, and warmth; Cai Wenchuan felt as if he were in springtime.
He could already hear her breathing; the blankets rose and fell gently with each breath. He felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. He walked to the window and looked outside. There were no trees, no ropes; she couldn't have climbed down to his room. So how did she get up there? It was simply incredible.
He closed the window, plunging the room into darkness. He didn't turn on the light, but walked straight to the bedside, sat down on the edge, and with trembling hands pulled back the covers. Sure enough, Lin Tingyue was curled up on his bed like a baby in the womb, her face still wet with tears. Her small face, no bigger than a palm, shone like the moon. She was looking at him with her big, purple grape-like eyes.
The sight made his heart tremble. She covered her face with her hands, her body trembling slightly. Cai Wenchuan felt a pang of pain in his heart. He reached out and lifted her from the bed, placing her in his arms. Then he pulled the blanket over himself and sat down on the edge of the bed. The two embraced in the darkness.
Time passed, and Lin Tingyue's body warmed up. She stirred in his arms and asked him in a muffled voice, "Xiao Wenzi, am I really not Father's daughter?"
Cai Wenchuan felt a pang of sadness when he recalled his mother's words about having a paternity test done. He remained silent, for the truth was like a knife, and he could not speak of it; she had already suffered enough.
Lin Tingyue then answered her own question, "I know, now I finally understand why, all these years, even though I was right next to my father, he treated me like I was invisible, as if I couldn't see him. Why my older brother was so good to me when I was little, but one day, he became distant. He wouldn't give me anything, he was wary of me, and no matter how much I tried to please him, it was useless. I never understood before, but now I understand everything, sob sob sob—"
Cai Wenchuan remained silent, simply holding Lin Tingyue tightly. Thankfully, he had finally found her. Nothing else mattered. After all, in this world, no matter whose daughter she was, he would always only love her!
Because she is in his life, deep in his soul, intertwined with his life, inseparable, they are one.
Time passed, and Lin Tingyue stopped crying and gradually fell asleep in his arms. Cai Wenchuan had been searching for her all day and was also very tired, so he carried her to the quilt and fell asleep with her in his arms.
Moonlight streamed in through the cracks in the window, darkening the room. He gazed at the enchanting girl in the moonlight, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, he was still half asleep when he felt someone kissing his face. He opened his eyes and saw Lin Tingyue's smiling face. He blinked, and then he remembered everything. He jumped out of bed and hurriedly went to find his clothes.
She was indeed in his room, and they were both sleeping in the same bed. Their parents were downstairs! It was the second floor! There was no way downstairs except by taking the stairs!
My mind went blank, and I heard a buzzing sound in my ears.
Seeing Cai Wenchuan's flustered appearance, Lin Tingyue chuckled.
With his back to her, Cai Wenchuan steadied himself before calming down and saying to her, "I've been looking for you all day yesterday."
Lin Tingyue reached out, hooked her arms around his neck, leaned against his back, and whispered to him, "I know that in this world, you are the best to me. I only realize this now, but I hope it's not too late."
Hearing this, Cai Wenchuan felt a warmth in his heart. He thought for a moment and said to her, "Ye Wenyu and I have broken up. I am free now."
He didn't know why he said those words to her. He only felt the small hands around his neck tighten, and a warm little face pressed against his back, like a tiny cat gently rubbing against him. Her breath was fragrant, like a small hand tickling his heart. Cai Wenchuan smiled slightly, though the smile looked somewhat sad.
He thought Lin Tingyue would be very moved, but in fact, all he saw on that beautiful yet wicked little face was her smug smile.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Wenchuan, are you going to work today? It's time to get up." It was Cai Wenchuan's mother's voice.
The two people in the room panicked. Lin Tingyue simply hid under the covers. Cai Wenchuan laughed when he saw her frightened look and replied to the outside, "Okay, I'll get up right away."
Then footsteps were heard; it must have been her mother coming downstairs. The surroundings became quiet again.
Cai Wenchuan pulled back the covers, and Lin Tingyue winked her big, playful eyes at him. Cai Wenchuan asked softly, "How did you get here yesterday?"
