Chapter 542 Acknowledgments and Statements

(541)

When Uncle Cai and Aunt Cai saw this scene, their faces changed color. Lin Tingfeng, who was standing next to Uncle Cai, took a deep look and a cold smile appeared on his face.

Cai Wenchuan's face flushed red. He took a step back as if pleading for help and grasped his girlfriend Ye Wenyu's hand.

Ye Wenyu's hand froze, and she suddenly felt a strong gaze sticking to her back; it was Lin Tingfeng's.

When Grandpa Lin saw Cai Wenchuan's father, he immediately smiled and waved, saying, "Old Cai, you've finally come to see me."

Cai Wenchuan's father's eyes reddened, and he said hoarsely, "Master, at the time, I wanted to resign in person, but when I heard from the young master that you were not in good health, I didn't want to bother you, so I went directly to the young master."

"Nonsense! I didn't agree to this, how can you resign? You are the Lin family's steward, you have been, you are, and you always will be!"

Old Master Lin was both angry and stubborn, not at all like someone who was about to die. But the doctor said that he was already exhausted and was just having a final burst of energy before death.

Cai Wenchuan's father was deeply moved, his eyes reddening. He choked up as he said, "Thank you, sir. I am unworthy of such kindness—"

Old Master Lin smiled, looked around, and said to Cai Wenchuan's father, "Old Cai, look, now, you are here, Azi is here, and my children are all here. Now that I'm dying, I can rest easy."

Everyone felt a chill run down their spines upon hearing this.

The hall was dimly lit, and a long, cold wind blew in from outside.

Cai Wenchuan's father immediately said, "May you live to be a hundred years old—"

Ye Wenyu gradually couldn't listen anymore. The living room was quiet except for the conversation between the two old people. As she looked down, she inadvertently discovered that Cai Wenchuan had let go of her hand at some point and had disappeared. She felt uneasy and angry. She looked around and found that Lin Tingyue had also disappeared. Only Old Master Lin and Cai Wenchuan's father were chatting happily in the living room, while Aunt Cai stood silently to the side with a worried look on her face.

She knew most likely what had happened; Cai Wenchuan, like a puppet on a string, had been summoned away again by that little vixen, Lin Tingyue.

Realizing this, my heart felt heavy, as if filled with lead.

A feeling of helplessness washed over her like a tide. She needed to find Cai Wenchuan, so she quietly slipped away.

Stepping out of the gloomy Lin family living room, she walked towards the sunny garden, searching everywhere but not finding Cai Wenchuan. Just as she was about to return disappointed, a familiar voice rang out: "Are you looking for them?"

"They," he said, as if he knew her worries. Ye Wenyu suddenly turned around and saw that Lin Tingfeng, dressed in black, was already standing behind her.

At this moment, the roses were in full bloom, and Lin Tingfeng stood amidst them. But he looked so tired, as if several bones had been pulled from his back.

Ye Wenyu stared at him with her eyes wide open, her unease growing stronger.

Lin Tingfeng slowly walked towards her and said, "Thank you for what happened last time." He was expressing his gratitude.

Ye Wenyu realized that he was referring to her request for him to personally go abroad to bring back Uncle Cai.

She nodded and said in a hoarse voice, "You're welcome." She took a step forward, wanting to leave again, thinking that Cai Wenchuan would be unhappy if he saw her with Lin Tingfeng. Things were getting more and more ridiculous. She kept trying to draw a line, but in the end, she was caught up in the Lin family's turmoil.

Lin Tingfeng seemed to see right through her, and asked her coldly, "You're worried he'll see me with you? Don't worry, he doesn't have time to care about us right now!" His tone was full of sarcasm.

What? Upon hearing this, Ye Wenyu felt her blood rush to her face, and she lowered her head, not wanting to speak.

Lin Tingfeng reminded her, "Listen to me, break up with Cai Wenchuan as soon as possible. You can't wake him up, don't get yourself involved."

What? Like a bolt from the blue, Ye Wenyu suddenly looked up.

Lin Tingfeng said to her sincerely, "Xiaoyu, Cai Wenchuan's inner demon is not Lin Tingyue, but himself. He thinks that if he gets my sister, he can get back everything he lost, but his obsession is abnormal."

Ye Wenyu felt a buzzing in her ears, as if a million bees were flying by.

Lin Tingfeng sighed and said to her, "I'm still in the midst of divorce proceedings, but there should be a result soon."

Ye Wenyu was stunned again, and reminded him, "Don't get a divorce. You are now surrounded by enemies. If you let your wife take away your property and become your ex-wife and enemy, it will be very disadvantageous for you."

If that's the case, he's truly besieged on all sides.

Upon hearing this, Lin Tingfeng was stunned for a moment, then felt a warmth in his heart. He smiled sadly and asked her, "You also know that I am surrounded by enemies? I thought you didn't."

Ye Wenyu could only remain silent, thinking to herself that she wasn't stupid.

The sunlight was so bright it stung my eyes.

Lin Tingfeng said to her, "I will be careful. If you don't want me to worry about you, then listen to me. If you keep delaying, you will only get hurt more and more." After saying this, he left in a hurry.

Ye Wenyu was left standing alone in the garden, lost in thought. She didn't know how much time had passed before she came to her senses and returned to the living room. There was no one there; everyone had vanished, as if they had all been swept away by a strong wind in an instant.

Left with no other choice, Ye Wenyu walked out of the Lin family's living room and towards where they had parked their car. She found Cai Wenchuan's car, but he wasn't there. Feeling even more disappointed and pained, as if her chest was about to burst, she had no choice but to call him.

After Ye Wenyu's relentless calls, Cai Wenchuan finally answered the phone. Ye Wenyu asked him where he was, but he didn't answer, only asking if something was wrong. At this point, even Ye Wenyu, with her excellent self-control, lost her temper, saying in a somewhat sharp voice, "Everyone's gone. I'm going back. I'm next to your car now." Then, without waiting for his reply, she hung up the phone.

Even with solid upbringing, a clay idol would get angry if things developed to this point.

The surroundings became quiet, like a tomb. Ye Wenyu tossed her phone into her handbag. The bright sunlight made her squint. She looked up at the white Lin family mansion and wondered what could have caused her to stand here again in such an embarrassing situation.

The anger in her heart couldn't be quelled, and she couldn't calm down for a long time. Memories flooded back like a tide, almost suffocating her. She thought to herself, "I meant well, remembering the kindness I received as a child, wanting to repay it, which is why I made this choice today? Why is my good intention not rewarded? I wanted to keep myself pure, to distance myself from Lin Tingfeng, and to avoid falling into the abyss, so why do I still feel like I'm in the abyss?"

Where exactly did things go wrong?
