The car sped away from the villa halfway up the mountain and began its descent. The air was filled with the rich fragrance of flowers, and the bright sunshine shimmered and sparkled, creating circular patches of light. Two rows of green camphor trees rushed past on either side of the road, like a beautiful golden dream. Ye Wenyu looked out the window at the picturesque scenery, listened to the enchanting birdsong, and felt the gentle spring breeze.
She was curious about why Lin Tingfeng had taken her on the trip, what she had said and done during her illness, and what Lin Tingfeng's inner plans were. But she couldn't ask him any of these questions, and even if she did, he probably wouldn't give her any answers.
She was as simple as an open book, her emotions written all over her face. In front of him, she was like a person made of crystal glass; he could tell what she was thinking at a glance. But he, in front of her, was as difficult to understand as advanced mathematics. Unless he took the initiative to speak, she would never know what he was thinking.
However, he said that once they were outside and the time was right, he would tell her.
Ye Wenyu had no choice but to put aside her doubts and begin to enjoy the journey. "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, for time waits for no one," she thought to herself, leaning against the car window and looking at the spring scenery outside. "It's already so beautiful here, why go all the way to Hangzhou to see the scenery?"
Lin Tingfeng glanced at her, smiled, and asked softly, "Is this place really that beautiful?" His tone was that of a parent doting on their child.
“Hmm—” She turned around and looked at Lin Tingfeng.
In my memory, the house she stayed in during her illness, the same house they just drove away from, was very large and beautiful, extremely luxurious. It had five floors, fragrant wooden floors, and countless crystal chandeliers, as intricate and beautiful as a sky full of stars. It was a hillside villa with a swimming pool and rockery in front, a garage and back garden in the back, as well as various fountains and pavilions. It was already a very beautiful private garden.
She knew it must be Lin Tingfeng's house. She never dreamed that one day she would live in such a beautiful and grand villa. She was incredibly lucky to have spent a month and a half recuperating here.
Lin Tingfeng slowly said to her, "This is just a small house that I occasionally stay in. Back then, I was young and hot-blooded, and I often quarreled with my father."
Lin Tingfeng fell silent as he recalled the past, a hint of melancholy in his eyes. After a while, he continued slowly, "Once I became independent, I bought land here and built a house, planning to move out once it was finished. But before the house was even completed, my father passed away."
At this point, he chuckled, his eyes brightening and his tone becoming lighter. He said, "I've taken over the group's affairs, but I still spend most of my time living in my hometown, the one you visited last time, the one we first met in the garden. You said it's neither Chinese nor Western, that's my father's design. I've never liked it, but it's close to the group, and my mother and sister live there, so even after it was built, I rarely come to stay there—"
Ye Wenyu listened silently, somewhat surprised. She had always thought Lin Tingfeng was a man of few words, a believer in the value of silence. In the five or six times they had met, he had always seemed to speak very little. But today, he was actually talking incessantly to her while driving, as if he were in a great mood and had a very eloquent conversation.
He really has changed. Was he saying all that in the hope that she would gradually understand him? He was talking about his background and his relationship with his father. Back then, he built a house here because he didn't get along with his father and wanted to get away from the old man. Later, although the house was completed, the old man passed away, so he didn't come to live there anymore because there was no need to move out of the old house.
How strange, Ye Wenyu thought. If his father and he didn't get along, why would he give him the inheritance rights of the group? As far as she knew, the Lin family didn't only have Lin Tingfeng as a son.
Ye Wenyu was both shocked and curious.
Lin Tingfeng saw the expression on her face, but didn't explain. He just continued slowly, "Last month, you were sick, and I wanted to find a good place for you to recuperate, so I thought of this place."
Ye Wenyu looked at Lin Tingfeng gratefully, recalling that cold, stormy weekend more than a month ago when she collapsed by the roadside and he took her in.
Lin Tingfeng smiled slightly at her. Ye Wenyu was a little lost in thought. He didn't seem to like to smile and rarely smiled. She didn't expect him to look so handsome when he smiled.
Seeing her swooning over him, Lin Tingfeng wanted to burst out laughing, but fearing she would be embarrassed, he stopped looking at her and, focusing on the traffic ahead, continued slowly, "I haven't been here for almost three years, but the housekeeper, cook, auntie, driver, and everything else are still here. I don't like lazy servants who only do a thorough cleaning when I come. I tell them to keep the place clean and tidy so that it's spotless when I return, so they're quite diligent. Are you comfortable here?"
Ye Wenyu nodded vigorously, recalling the dilapidated tenement building where she and her mother depended on each other when she was a child. Now, even this pigeon coop of less than 70 square meters had been sold long ago. Thinking back to the university dormitory where she and her four roommates squeezed together, and living in the Lin family's big villa, she was naturally comfortable and happy. Not only was the house big and beautiful, but she also had a large number of servants to serve her.
He had never enjoyed such a blessing in his entire life, and his gratitude deepened.
Lin Tingfeng gazed at her and said with a smile, "Speaking of which, you are the first woman I've brought to this house."
A woman? He said she was a woman? Ye Wenyu blushed. She had never been in a relationship before, except for her first love, Brother Wen. However, because she had lost contact with Cai Wenchuan for many years, at this moment, only Lin Tingfeng remained in her heart.
She's still a virgin, okay? It's said that if you haven't lost your virginity, you're not a woman. Yet he called her a woman. However, because his tone was so gentle, as if he would stay by her side for many years, Ye Wenyu wasn't angry at all. Instead, she was quite happy.
The first woman he brought to this house, it's clear he values her highly, isn't it?
She felt a sweet warmth mixed with unease. Was what he said true? Was it trustworthy? He seemed to be deliberately steer the conversation in a way that could lead to misunderstandings. He appeared to be trying to close the distance between them and blur the lines between them. What was his intention?
Ye Wenyu was both happy and uneasy. Would he treat her well, or would he lead her into a trap?
After that, Lin Tingfeng remained silent. Perhaps worried that she had just recovered and wasn't ready to talk too much, he turned on the car's music, and a gentle, soothing melody began to play. Ye Wenyu was indeed a little tired, and she curled up in the passenger seat like a cat, unconsciously closing her eyes and falling asleep. The music continued, and after some time, she heard Lin Tingfeng speak softly beside her: "We've arrived."
