"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I was worried something might have happened to you." Lin Tingfeng didn't dare to look at her for long, his cheeks were a little hot. He immediately lowered his head, put the clean pajamas aside, and said to her, "The clothes are here, change and come out."
He breathed a sigh of relief as he stepped out of the bathroom. He leaned against the doorframe for a moment, lost in thought, forgetting the glimpse of spring he had just witnessed. He wiped the sweat from his brow and, seeing that she still hadn't come out, became even more worried. So, through the door, he said to her in a commanding tone, "Change your clothes and come out quickly. You're a little weak; you can't soak for too long!"
Ye Wenyu agreed and came out after changing her clothes. What he handed her was a men's white shirt, which looked like his size. She couldn't help but blush. However, after looking at the wet clothes she had just taken off, she had no other choice but to put on the men's white shirt and go out.
Lin Tingfeng had been standing guard outside the bathroom door. He was still quite nervous from the shock he had just experienced, so he didn't dare to go too far away. The moment he kicked the door open, he saw her sit up from the water, coughing violently. If he wasn't mistaken, the girl must have fainted while taking a bath because she was too weak.
A few days later, he decided to take her to the hospital for a full physical examination. He was very worried about her health, wondering if she had not fully recovered from her serious illness last time.
Ye Wenyu walked out barefoot, her face flushed. As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Lin Tingfeng standing to one side. He was two heads taller than her, and she looked like a little white rabbit standing in front of a lion.
Lin Tingfeng gazed at her and couldn't help but smile. The girl standing in front of him was wearing his white shirt. Because of her petite figure, it looked like she was wearing a skirt. Below the skirt were straight and smooth legs. Her legs were really long. She was barefoot on the wooden floor, and her ten toes looked like blooming lotus flowers.
Her fragrance was indescribable, reminding him of a flower whose scent was unforgettable, and which would make him return to her side no matter how far he went.
Ye Wenyu blushed and whispered, "Thank you for earlier." The thought of him seeing her naked made her face burn.
Lin Tingfeng smiled gently: "What happened just now—"
Ye Wenyu looked up at him and explained softly, "I just fainted and sank into the water—"
Lin Tingfeng immediately reached out and took her hand, saying apologetically, "It's all my fault—" He shouldn't have made her angry, shouldn't have let her suffer, shouldn't have let her cry in the rain in despair—
He looked at her worriedly and murmured, "I'll take you to the hospital tomorrow for a full checkup. You might not have fully recovered from your last illness—"
Ye Wenyu shook her head, recalling her self-blame in the bathroom earlier. She said sadly, "It's not your fault, it's mine. I lacked a sense of contract. Between us, it was a business transaction, wasn't it?" She gently bit her lip, trying to appear indifferent and not sad.
Lin Tingfeng felt a pang of heartache. He leaned against the wall, looking down at her. The rain outside seemed to have stopped. The window was open, and the fresh, cool September breeze blew in through it, making the night slightly chilly.
Her long hair was still wet, and strands of it swirled around her neck, clinging to her fair and slender neck. He said gently, "Come here, let me dry your hair."
Ye Wenyu immediately blushed and said, "No need, I'll blow it myself."
Lin Tingfeng found the hairdryer, plugged it in, and said domineeringly to her, "Be good and stand still."
Ye Wenyu dared not move, standing quietly in front of Lin Tingfeng like an obedient sheep.
Lin Tingfeng turned on the hairdryer and carefully dried her hair. The hairdryer made a "whoosh" sound, and the fragrance from her hair rose up, making him feel somewhat intoxicated.
When the wind blew through her long hair, his slender fingers touched the skin of her neck, causing Lin Tingfeng to tremble involuntarily. He looked away, avoiding her alluring collarbone, and waited until her hair was completely dry before turning off the power. Composing himself, he smiled at her and said, "Alright, go lie down on the bed."
She nodded, and he led her to the bedroom, helped her lie down on the bed, then sat down beside her, picked up the fever reducer from the bedside table, poured her a glass of water, and said, "Take it."
Ye Wenyu obediently opened her mouth, and he helped her take the medicine. He said to her, "Now lie down and take a nap, and you'll feel better."
Ye Wenyu nodded, lay down on the bed, and Lin Tingfeng covered her with a blanket.
But he didn't seem to have any intention of leaving. He sat silently for a while, then suddenly smiled and said, "I remember you used to blame me, blaming me for pursuing you in such a strange way, for being too scheming."
Ye Wenyu was stunned. She looked up at him, wondering why he was suddenly bringing up things from the past at this time.
Lin Tingfeng glanced at her, then looked into the distance, pondering as he said, "Xiaoyu, the reason I chose that approach back then was because, as I told you before, I lack self-confidence. You are so young, so smart, and so beautiful; I was worried that confessing my feelings would only scare you away instead of winning you over."
Ye Wenyu gazed at him quietly. This seemed to be the first time Lin Tingfeng, who believed that silence was golden, had spoken so much in front of her. His words tonight were like a continuous thread.
She pondered deeply why he did this. Was it to help her understand him? Because he saw her pain and grievances, and was trying to open his heart so that she could understand him better, perhaps that would make her happier?
Lin Tingfeng continued slowly, "There's another reason: I no longer know how to pursue a girl through normal means."
As he finished speaking, he turned his gaze away from the distance and stared at her, wondering if she understood what he meant.
Sure enough, she looked completely bewildered.
He laughed and explained, "That's right. From childhood to adulthood, I've seen many dark sides and experienced many bad things, which is why I've become who I am today."
He pointed to himself, his face full of helpless self-deprecating smiles, and slowly said, "You may still be too young to understand. Maybe after many years, you will understand that a person, no matter what kind of person he is, in short, his strength and ruthlessness, as well as his profundity and scheming, are all built on the foundation of pain and collapse. They are roots that are watered by blood and tears."
Ye Wenyu listened attentively, trying to understand what he meant, but in the end, she failed. She couldn't understand him at all; it seemed like he was speaking another language.
All she knew was that he was powerful, cold, intelligent, and elegant. He had status, wealth, and power; he could have whatever he wanted. But he was always unhappy; he seemed preoccupied when she first met him.
Later, he would smile when he saw her, but when facing others, he still had a cold, icy expression.
